I definitely understand braiders alone not offering wash & blow dry services. Just based off how time consuming braids/locs already are. So far I’ve only met 1 braider here in Chicago (the greatest city in the world mind you 😅) who does. But these regular degular hairstylists (or should I say LICENSED COSMETOLOGISTS) who don’t should absolutely be ashamed of themselves. That’s literally the FIRST thing that they learn how to do when they go to cosmetology school smh.
And therein lies the problem with a lot of these ig hairstylists. They essentially wanna make more money for doing less work. Along with being unprofessional & having stank ass attitudes.

Dang sis. From stories I’ve heard, it REALLY is rough out here. 🥺😳 “come washed and blow dried” to a silk press appointment, “come braided down” to an appointment for a sew In, clients being greeted with everything other than professionalism 😅 I haven’t been serviced in a salon since a child and even then ..it was a rarity because my aunty did hair.
I’ve heard MANY “horror stories” from clients in regards to their appointments with other stylists (be it braiders or cosmetologists) and I really can’t believe what’s happening out here in these beauty industry streets.
But yeah many people aren’t aware that being a licensed Braider isn’t the same as being a licensed cosmetologist and that there are definitely limits to what we are allowed to do. Even if we were legally authorized to shampoo I’m not sure I’d even offer that service as the process is SO time consuming 😅

@@chicago_cc not “come already washed & blow dried” for a silk press & “come already braided down” for a sew in though! 😩🤦🏾‍♀️😳girrrrllll I had to tell a ig hairstylist about herself a couple weeks ago. She made a post saying that while she does offer wash & blow dry services, it’s time consuming so she understands why a lot of others don’t. But she was real nasty about it though. So I said “well I don’t understand why y’all don’t wash & blow dry hair considering it’s the first thing y’all learned how to do in school.” She said something else smart but I stood 10 toes down on exactly what I said.
And that’s what I mean by the main issue is a lot of their nasty attitudes. They fail to realize that clients can go to anyone else at any given moment. I’m like “girl this is Chicago. There’s literally a salon on every corner.” I feel like a lot of these new age hairstylists have never had a regular job before, so they never really learned customer service. I’ve had my fair share of horror stories. And that’s exactly why I can count on 1 hand how many times a year that I go to the salon.

Yes I agree. There are SO many talented young ladies here. &I mean talented AF, BUT unfortunately a lot of them lack professionalism. & I do believe many of them are just sincerely ignorant as it pertains to conducting business. They literally do not know and therefore feel like there isn’t an issue. They really do not understand that your talent will only carry you so far. If you lack common courtesy/etiquette within the business realm you will not go far at all. I feel that if they’re teachable … they’ll be alright but the ones who ain’t … well 🙊🤷🏾‍♀️
