Has anyone ever told you to ‘slappa da bass mahn’? (Anyone remember that movie? “I Love You, Man?”)
If you play for long enough, it’s bound to happen, and when it does, it’s going to be unbelievably useful to have some easy slap bass lines in your arsenal to blow some minds.
You don’t have to play something incredibly difficult either. One of the cool things about slap bass is that it can sound super impressive, and still be relatively easy to play.
In fact, in this video, you’re going to get 5 beginner slap bass lines that are guaranteed to impress - even if this is day 1 for you as a slap bass player.
I even included the very first slap bass line that I ever learned.
And just to make things easy, here are the timestamps for each of the 5 beginner slap bass lines:
    Song 1 - 01:00
    Song 2 - 03:42
    Song 3 - 06:07
    Song 4 - 09:20
    Song 5 - 11:46
If you are a ‘day-1’ beginner though when it comes to slap bass, then jumping straight into these bass lines might be a little bit tough - especially if you don’t know exactly how to slap.
If that sounds like you, be sure to check out this video all about fundamental slap bass technique:
    • The First Slap Bass Le...
It’ll make things way easier when it comes to playing these beginner slap bass lines.
And if you want to start mastering these bass lines today, make sure you download the tabs, notation and drum tracks for all the bass lines in this video. Just go here:
    becomeabassist.com/5-beginner...
Fill out the form on that page and I’ll send it all to you absolutely free. I’ve even included the slower drum tracks for the trickier songs so it’ll be easy to get everything up to speed.
Then once you’ve nailed these beginner slap bass lines you can go forth and blow some minds anytime someone tells you to ‘slappa da bass mahn’.
Good luck with the lesson and happy slapping!
    Cheers,
    Luke

Hi Luke, I’m 47 yo and decided to learn bass during this awful quarantine in march... I have some music education (clarinet) but I’m total beginner with a fretboard and all the fingerstyle thing.
This channel ROCKS and the content I receive in mail rocks even more!
Thanks for doing this, I’m already confident on some basics bass lines and I would definetly recommend your channel to anybody willing to learn AND improve the bass.
I wish internet and something like your channel was available when I learned music in the previous century (literally).
This is a great speed up for any learner and it is not only “‘bout the bass”, but also about music styles and music theory.
    Kudos!!!

Here's a tip when learning a slap bassline with alot of Mute notes.
Just leave most of the mute notes out, first learn the notes then after you get comfortable with it, add the mute notes!

I think you have to hit the strings a bit diagonal and the thumb will then be stopped by the next string. But this is only a theory of mine since I haven't found a tutorial in which that is explained that detailed. I'm just a beginner. But maybe this will help

If your slapping in the fretboard and its bouncing back up you shout try hitting it a bit more gentley but if your slqpping behind it bouncing is fine.I recommend experimenting with how your slapping and where on the bass, I'll send a link to a video that thoroughly explains the mechanics of slap bass which will definitely help.

Awesome video, as a beginner who has been learning fingerstyle I have just realized that I will need to completely re learn how to mute strings to play slap... I have been using left hand to mute strings below (higher pitch) and right hand to mute strings above (lower pitch), it looks like for slap the left hand needs to mute everything.
As a player who wants to be able to play many styles this has made me question how I am learning to play... should I adopt a left hand technique that can be used for finger, slap and pick style... or should I change style depending on the song?

    • @BecomeABassist
      @BecomeABassist  4 роки тому +1

Hey @Matthew Donoghue - the left hand does become pretty important for slap, but when I think about it, I don't *think* I do anything differently when it comes to muting with slap vs. other styles of playing. I do have a video all about muting you may find helpful though: ua-cam.com/video/VPlseI98oxQ/v-deo.html

    I have a question.
I started playing bass back in 1981 and have been a bass player now for over 40 years.
How does one become a bassist? There weren’t any bassists when I started, just bass players. Over time there seems to be less bass players and more bassists.
I asked my drummist and singist but neither knew how to help me, although the singist got a bit mad and asked me to call him a microphonist or a micist.
We have a horn section, so I asked those guys, but the trumpetist just blew spit at me so I got out of there.
Can you help? Being a bassist sounds soooo much cooler than being a bass player. How do I join the club?

11:48 That's how you notice you're getting old. When I started playing the bass, the canonical overplayed slap line was the one from "Take the Power Back" by Rage Against the Machine.

If he left the chat I hope he never comes back. He's the tropical skin disease of bassists. He's great at what he does, but he's odious, irritating, and obnoxious.

I thought you were going to say "HIGHER GROUND" 😢 one of the easiest and a lot of people's firsts 👌🙏

I wouldn't say that's the HARDEST slap song @keirankennedy7162, but I definitely wouldn't say it's the easiest either.

I probably could have learned more than the first one, if the subtitles haven't been right over your left hand most of the time.
Somebody knows if you can move or remove it?
