I have a theory. I think Discord is not actually sick and he's aware of the virus. He's pretending to be sick so he can keep Fluttershy safe/away from the infected ponies. He doesn't want her to know probably bc he knows she would panic and/or go down to her friends and animals bc she is worried abt them.
Honestly when it showed Fluttershy and Discord, I was suspicious of Discord and wondering if he had done something, but then realized that it wouldn’t make sense cause it was stated that the infection started with rats. Plus I don’t think Discord would be *this* malicious if it was something he had done. All in all, your idea makes more sense.
This story almost made me cry. This isn't horror story, this is a sad story! Its incredibly well made and one of my favorites! I also appreciate Discord trying to protect Fluttershy. Hiding in the clouds are essential since the effected cant fly. Too bad it has to end though. At the very least we all know who to blame. I think for Discord, the grooming of her feelings and manipulating her compassionate heart is bad, yes, but he's protecting her from down there. So it probably isn't his fault necessarily. Update is I think for this disease, biologically Discord passed it as he is sick so it's fluid-based. This seems to be magic-starving and therefore kind of prion based but also mainly like a rat fever since it hit Applebloom first and she both has nearly no magic (no cutie mark as of yet) and is young so the young ones get lethality chances more than adults.

So, in G4 (and G5, albeit G5 gives earth ponies more stuff) it's said that "magic" has different forms for different ponies. For unicorns, it's the obvious. For pegasi, it's the ability to fly. For earth ponies, it's their bodily strength and their ability to work the earth. You can see this during the Tirek episodes. Draining the pegasi takes away their flight. You can also see this with G5 where pegasi had lost the ability to fly after magic stopped working. Tirek draining the earth ponies left them very frail and weak. Arguably earth ponies were better off to handle the lack of magic, but I do think it probably took some time for earth ponies to adjust to having less strength. But even so, they were less reliant on the magic than their winged and horned counterparts I think. Hell, in G5 they're so used to living without magic that when earth ponies got magic back and in a more powerful form, the population was scared shitless of it! (I do find it interesting that they got a new direct form of earth pony magic that G4 didn't have, since it's odd to have that when it's literally the same universe canonically. But that's a different topic) Anyway earth pony magic (G4) is strength, pegasi magic is flight, unicorn magic is just blatant magic

I think for Discord, the grooming of her feelings and manipulating her compassionate heart is bad, yes, but he's protecting her from down there. So it probably isn't his fault necessarily. Update is I think for this disease, biologically Discord passed it as he is sick so it's fluid-based. This seems to be magic-starving and therefore kind of prion based but also mainly like a rat fever since it hit Applebloom first and she both has nearly no magic (no cutie mark as of yet) and is young so the young ones get lethality chances more than adults.

It is so messed up to send D3ATH THR3ATS to someone because of WHO THEY DATE. How would they feel if they were the ones being told to c0mmit? I doubt they would feel good, so why would they do it to others? That just isnt right. People can date who they want, as long as it is okay, (not okay is like dating a minor, or something illegal.) its their body and mind, so worry about yourself instead of someone elses body.

I will never understand people who think it's okay to bully people like that. I bully my friends, but that's because it's how I show affection to them. This kind of bullying is not ok and the fact that some people think they should reevaluate their life choices. A little bit of good-hearted teasing is ok, but this isn't. Wishing death upon people who are different from you just because you don't personally understand it is not and never will be ok. I'm deeply sorry to the creators of this amazing AU that this happened to them and I hope they are doing alright and are still happily together despite the things said to them on the internet.

No. I just can’t with people who send fr fucking death threats over those things, like it’s so small and stupid, I’m a therian and people send me death threats, that’s not okay, and being Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Pansexual/Ect. Should not have to have people double checking their lives, thinking their sexuality is Wrong….It’s stupid and fucking pity….I feel so bad for them and I hope there not injured but hope they are still together and living happily together as these people deserve to be treated how others are treated and not like and abused animal from an abusive household….tjats not how it works….

So, in G4 (and G5, albeit G5 gives earth ponies more stuff) it's said that "magic" has different forms for different ponies.
For unicorns, it's the obvious.
For pegasi, it's the ability to fly.
For earth ponies, it's their bodily strength and their ability to work the earth.
You can see this during the Tirek episodes.
Draining the pegasi takes away their flight. You can also see this with G5 where pegasi had lost the ability to fly after magic stopped working.
Tirek draining the earth ponies left them very frail and weak.
Arguably earth ponies were better off to handle the lack of magic, but I do think it probably took some time for earth ponies to adjust to having less strength. But even so, they were less reliant on the magic than their winged and horned counterparts I think.
Hell, in G5 they're so used to living without magic that when earth ponies got magic back and in a more powerful form, the population was scared shitless of it! (I do find it interesting that they got a new direct form of earth pony magic that G4 didn't have, since it's odd to have that when it's literally the same universe canonically. But that's a different topic)
Anyway earth pony magic (G4) is strength, pegasi magic is flight, unicorn magic is just blatant magic
