Very much enjoyed that; must get the book. As for the next war, we are seeing many signs of its approach, aren't we. Beginning to seem in some ways a queer version of the early 1930s. I had predicted a China/RU coalition against the West some 15 years ago, but observing it threaten to become reality is sobering indeed. Military conflict aside, I'm not sure the US economy would even be able to survive if suddenly cut off from China. However the Chinese, much inured to suffering and abuses, will soldier on or be executed by their masters. Feels like a perfect storm where their society and model crushes our own, potentially without having to fire a shot. They cut us off, causing our society to descend into a very predictable chaos, see that Russia secures the Ukraine, take Taiwan and say come get us at your own peril. We can out-produce you 10-1 and our people aren't murdering each other and burning down their own cities. Between their domestic production and imports from Russia, they could be energy independent for some time if not indefinitely. I also strongly suspect a quiet goal of the Chinese is to crush and subjugate Japan, for long standing reasons.
