I'm colourblind and have a stickered cube. Yellow and orange look the same so have to sharpie the yellow (not a cuber, just pick it up every year or so to see if I can do it again)

I really appreciate you covering the colorblind aspect. I have to have grey instead of green and black instead of orange on my cubes because of my color deficiency and it means significantly less choice in cubes. It's very frustraiting.
I'd recommend the Moyu RS3M 2020 cube. Best budget cube by far at $9 and is available in stickered so you can change the color scheme. Literally every review of the cube has been overwhelmingly positive and many have actually made it their main after some customizations, including myself. Would highly recommend it 100%
Unless you turn really slowly you won't see the colours in the back, which negates any advantage, as by turning really slowly you won't get very far anyway
What I find good about stickerless is that you can be almost 100% sure that if you're buying a stickerless cube, it will turn at least half-decent, while on stickered you may run into unfilleted cubes that require wrist rotations, like the Original Rubik's series. Of course, you always look closely at what you're buying, but it just seems like an interesting little detail to think about. :)

A tip for colorblind cubers: nail polish is a wonderful replacement for stickers if you have no choice but to get a stickerless cube, and you can make it comp legal by painting the insides black ( likely spray paint? I've never had to do this). I'm red/green deuteranopic and I replace orange with black and red with grey. I dont feel like my colorblindness prevents me from speedcubing, even on 12 color megaminx.
I have always used stickerless cubes, from when I learned all through now. One day a friend and I swapped cubes to see how our times got affected by using each other cubes (I like my cubes fast, he likes them slower). His main was a stickered cube. Not only was I turning bad because the cube was slower then I was use to, but the stickers felt so WEIRD. I just cant use stickered cubes because of the edge on the sticker.
It would actually be nice to have stickerless cubes reproducing the scheme of stickered cubes with black lines around the pieces. This is the reason why I prefer stickered cubes, the alternance between colors and black (kind of like shadows) make each piece stand out more and you get this really cool 3D aspect like you can really tell each piece is a small cube in itself, which with a stickerless cube is just not possible, it just seems like one big cube. Do you know what I mean? Edit: I guess what I wanted to say in a few words is that stickerless cubes visually have a lack of depth which I don’t really like.
I have one like that. It’s a Rubik’s brand cube and I thought it was stickered but when I look at the cube closely I saw that the black rim and the colored centers are both plastic. The only thing that is bad about this cube is that the colors are pretty dull and the turning sucks
Totally agree. I also prefer cubes with more vivid colors, and the lack of black outline leaves the colors a little flat, plus the colors on most stickerless cubes are slacking regardless.
For me, whether or not the cube is stickered actually matters a lot. I have always used a stickerless cube, and when I got a stickered cube, I noticed that I was a lot worse at look ahead - I made more mistakes in F2L and took longer to look.
i love that you mentioned color blindness in this video. I have either protanomaly or deuteranomaly, im not sure which because it is fairly mild and doesnt affect my normal life, but some things like this can be an issue. although i have been able to find stickerless cubes with a 'normal' color scheme that is just different enough between the red/green/orange sides to work, i do undeerstand the issues others might have that would make them prefer stickered cubes
Idk, I like the beaten up sticker look, it gives me the impression of something a lot more rough worn and makes me want to turn faster, also yeah, the frosted plastic and stuff is inconsistent af so stickered is just good for a more consistent feeling against your hand.
Bruh. I actually have deuteranopia, and when I watched that part of the video, I thought, "bruh... I have to make a comment on this." Also, I love your videos!
@@JPerm Yes, actually. Sometimes during F2L, I solve the green and orange pair with white cross, but accidentally put in the edge flipped. Then I don’t notice until OLL, and then I have to fix it. Also, with megaminx, with purple and yellow, and blue and yellow pairs looking VERY similar, when I accidentally put them in each other’s spot, I have to go back, fix F2L, fix S2L, and solve it, which slows down my times drastically. edit: Did I mention all of my mains are stickerless?
@@JPerm I have severe deuteranopia. That part of the video was really interesting for me! The two cubes looked ALMOST the same, the only difference was the red was a bit darker on the deutan side, other than that no difference. Thank you for talking about this. Much respect
Very happy to hear you discuss the accessibility concerns you're aware of! Custom stickers to address colour blindness is a great accomodation that stickerless cubes can't match. You touched on the feeling of surface materials, and that's relevant for accessibility as well. Sensory sensitivity can make certain textures unbearable, so finding a cube style which doesn't trigger sensitivity can be very important as well! Of course, that will vary greatly from person to person, but personally the consistent texture of a stickerless cube is highly preferable from feeling the edges of the stickers and whatnot.
My favorite is the glossy stickerless cubes. The one I use is the Gan 11 M stickerless “UV coated” or whatever it’s called, it has more grip to me, easier to flick, but maybe that’s just bias.
Literally 2 days ago, I was trying to make up my mind if my next cube should be stickered or stickerless now that my mf3rs2m is getting old. This video was perfectly timed and really helped. I'm gonna go with stickerless. Thanks!
I prefer stickered on 3x3, because I love the look. Any bigger cubes, the amount of stickers just makes it not worth it to me, to many that can get damaged, and replacing stickers gets exponentially more annoying. I would probably feel differently if the stickers from SpeedCubeShop weren't as good as they are, so I would still take a stickered 3x3 over a stickerless, given the option.
Thank you so much for this video, because I am personally colorblind, and I have never gotten a cube because I thought it would be a problem, but this encourages me very much! I think I will get a stickered cube. From the bottom of my heart thank you!
Same, although there are various forms of red-green colour blindness. I thought I was protanopic but this video had me looking them up again and I'm more likely deuteranomolous (as are you as it affects about 6% of the male population). I don't find it makes cubing difficult although certain manufacturer's orange shades can be confused with red and cubing under artificial light is quite tough. I've never tried those colour-correcting glasses and wonder what a cube (along with everything else) would look like with them. On the upside, you probably distinguish other shades more easily than people with 'normal' vision - I can see differences between off-whites, for example, that others see as identical. The wiki article on colour blindness is very good so I'll stop regurgitating it...
@@pokeround for me, I can't tell apart between yellow and orange and I have to stare really hard to tell the difference. Also yeah red and green are confusing too but not as much as yellow orange for me
Hey J Perm, I just wanted to say thank you for uploading and making vids. I found you by learning my 5x5 after having it for like 2 years and not knowing. I used be big into cubing 8 years ago. You’ve helped me get back into something i enjoy during a really difficult time in my life with the pandemic, thank you! (Hope you see this)
I actually find my recognition takes longer on stickered puzzles for all cubes except 5x5, 6x6, and 7x7. The reason it doesn't get affected on those three (by my best guess) is because it helps discern which pieces are which part of the center, but as soon as I reach 3x3 stage it gets slower again.
Hi, what does “weight” mean in lube? Does it mean that higher the number , the more heavy the lube is? If yes, would weight 1 make your cube faster and weight 5 slower but more controllable?

4:57 Flash back to when some people would get sticker less cubes and either dye them black because the sticker less plastic was "softer" or would buy 6 and combine them to make 6 solid colour cubes lmao. I remember a friend and I going at it about if the black zanchi or sticker less zanchi were better because he said the sticker less one had softer plastic lmao.
The small difference in sound is that the Valk M was made with slightly bigger gaps (than a regular speedcube) between the edge and corner pieces. This means that it will be significantly louder.
Stickered cubes always look slow and unprofessional to me. Probably because all bad cubes I ever had were stickered, and all the good ones - stickerless.
I wish there were more tiled that look stickerless. I prefer the look of stickered, but my oc gets tripped when the stickers start wearing down. So I re-sticker... a lot. I have a Yuxin Kylin, and it's one of my favorites. There's a lot of potential for customization there too... I could see Gan coming up with a way to make the tiles reasonably easy to swap or something.
Stickered cubes stickers tend to peel off, meaning you have to spend more money on stickers. Stickerless cubes dont have stickers, but their one drawback is less grip, but you dont have to get stickers.
I dont think they really have less grip, in my experience a stickerless cube has the perfect amount of grip for fingertricks and kind of sliding your finger off of it after a turn if that makes sense. And more times than i would like to admit ive kind of got my finger stuck on the edge of a sticker. Also i really really dislike the feeling of the sticker edges on my fingertips. So yeah its clear what side i am on but i really think it comes down to personal preference and previous experiences
i dont even know how they really look because I see both of them through my colorblindness, right side is colorblind vision for me and left side is double colorblind vision
also colorblindness have levels and different variations the one at the left seems like a very very heavy level of colorblindness almost no one sees like that, but, maybe I actually am, but I cant know because I dont know how normal vision looks like
I love stickered cubes for their aesthetic. I main the RS3M, but I would say my Gan Air S looks a whole lot better. I also really want a Tengyun just cause it looks amazing lol
About to try and get into cubing, and ordered a stickered cube with a custom color scheme. Would've preferred a stickerless otherwise, since they feel more 'premium', but the canonical colorscheme doesn''t make sense to me. When you need to at a glance decide between colors, red orange and yellow (and white and yellow don't have great contrast either) aren't good when there are plenty of other colors to choose from.
i have an original stickered 3x3x3 and 2x2x2 and they’re rly old, i think the reason i prefer stickerless is because they feel so much smoother (coming from a person who’s used a stickered cube which is pretty clunky)
I like the look of stickered cubes but on bigger cubes such a 5x5 or 6x6 stickerless has the advantage of having the color on a piece on a much larger area, making it easier to see the colors on a piece. I noticed this as I have a stickerless 6x6 and a stickered 5x5. Still, the difference isn't much and you can work your way around it of course; you just have to get used to stickered pieces instead.
I love this. Although I can make a cube using an inefficient layer by layer method, I didn't know anything else and learning about it finally after .. 40 YEARS!! .. is great. One thing I learned is that my method is not that dumb, you guys are just so friggin' fast!!!!! I slowed one part down to 0.25 speed and you are STILL so fast, it's amazing. I always used to think you guys could look at the cube and visualise how to make it all in a very small number of moves but no, you are basically the same as me, but so fast! I just bought my first two speed cubes and started making cubes again and finally was game to peel the black stickers off one where the plastic underneath was coloured, giving me a stickerless cube. Yes! Finally! I have arrived! 😄 Thank you for listening! 😄 The End. 🙂
even if the stickered one without stickers is exactly the same in every way as the stickerless, it could interact differently with your fingers once the stickers are sticked on, so it wouldnt be the perfect expereiment either 7:35
I remember once when I was younger I had a sticker cube and I wanted to solve it. I peeled off the stickers and put them so they’re solved (centerpieces not even in the right place).
I personally find the high contrast of the black plastic against the colored stickers to help my recognition. and Mom many cubes these days are coming in both stickered and stickerless is variance not all are

Why do you have to write something?
UA-cam be buggin your comment was 51 minutes ago but jperm posted 48 minutes ago
@@jaydonturner2367 oh well. First and last time I’m faster than @JPerm lol
Saw the vídeo and came running!!!
8:17 I also
There's a reason everyone switched to stickerless after they became legal
Yes. Btw I make cubing content too.
Well, a lot of the people that are on top of the leaderboards use stickered cubes...
6:05 Aww that cute smile!!

Yuor brain : wow what a busy job
me to im busy
Fun fact: you can't afford it.
True
Wtf every one is not poor
I can afford
True story😭
Well I can afford it but I can't buy it cause I got too many cubes
I think, stickerless cubes just look cooler.
Stickered has a more iconic look. Stickerless looks like a kid's toy.
Stickered cubes stickers tend to peel off, meaning you have to spend more money on stickers.
Stickerless cubes dont have stickers, but their one drawback is less grip, but you dont have to get stickers.
i got a frosted cube and i think its enough grip
I dont think they really have less grip, in my experience a stickerless cube has the perfect amount of grip for fingertricks and kind of sliding your finger off of it after a turn if that makes sense. And more times than i would like to admit ive kind of got my finger stuck on the edge of a sticker. Also i really really dislike the feeling of the sticker edges on my fingertips. So yeah its clear what side i am on but i really think it comes down to personal preference and previous experiences
Not rlly my stickered 3x3 is normal and didn't show any sticker peeling in like 2-3 years and and i speedrun with it
Red-green colorblind viewers: Is that comparison accurate? Do the left and the right look the same?
i dont even know how they really look because I see both of them through my colorblindness, right side is colorblind vision for me and left side is double colorblind vision
also colorblindness have levels and different variations the one at the left seems like a very very heavy level of colorblindness almost no one sees like that, but, maybe I actually am, but I cant know because I dont know how normal vision looks like
Do you know that Akinator knows you, but he counts you as a rare character
having worn out stickers officially makes you a better cuber
1:42 Thanks for the great idea 💡 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍💓💓💓💓💓
I love stickered cubes for their aesthetic.
I main the RS3M, but I would say my Gan Air S looks a whole lot better.
I also really want a Tengyun just cause it looks amazing lol
Stickers look cool until they start to chip
Congrats to the people who are early!!
😎
Thanks

My view: On stickerless, you can see all the side colors when looking from the top during PLL. You can’t do that with a stickered cube.
“You can see 2 different colours”
Gan 11 air: “Are you sure about that?”
Stickerless cubes are not great because you can't use peel the stickers off method on it😂
use the break apart and reassemble method😎
thede comments tho
Me who don’t have neither sticker nor stickerless cube (I have cubes in which the colours have been painted on😂)
thats what stickerless is
@@civicfeather6082 I wish I could send u a pic of the cube state right now Xd
I think stickerless are bigger then stickered cube
Try the gan 354
@@rujon288 I want to
@@firewizard842 it’s currently my main because my hands are small
I cannot see the comments :(

Why don't you put stickers on stickerless cube??😂😂👍
make it a seris
I like the look of stickered cubes but on bigger cubes such a 5x5 or 6x6 stickerless has the advantage of having the color on a piece on a much larger area, making it easier to see the colors on a piece. I noticed this as I have a stickerless 6x6 and a stickered 5x5. Still, the difference isn't much and you can work your way around it of course; you just have to get used to stickered pieces instead.
i honestly thought this was gonna be another one of those videos bashing stickered cubes
When you click through notification 😂😂
I don't like stickered but I LOVE tiled cubes, there the look of stickered without the bad feeling :D
J Perm, best cube vids on the Internet. 👍
0:56 I'm not the only one who tried that
Hello J perm thank you for the tutorials you make it really help me
I love this. 😄 The End. 🙂
I actually have slight color deficency, where I cant see enough green, but I can cube just fine and can differanciate all colors, so Its all good.
even if the stickered one without stickers is exactly the same in every way as the stickerless, it could interact differently with your fingers once the stickers are sticked on, so it wouldnt be the perfect expereiment either 7:35
I really like the way stickered cubes look. The edges pop so nicely
the solution to this problem is simply to make stickerless Rubik's cubes but painting only as far as the sticker goes in the sticker Rubik's cube
0:41 they weren't allowed until they were allowed.
Wha-
Hey JPerm, can you do a video on how you setup your CSTimer, i really like the look of your settings.
I remember once when I was younger I had a sticker cube and I wanted to solve it. I peeled off the stickers and put them so they’re solved (centerpieces not even in the right place).
I think you should make a video on a 2x2 journey just like how you made one with the 3x3 one
I personally find the high contrast of the black plastic against the colored stickers to help my recognition. and Mom many cubes these days are coming in both stickered and stickerless is variance not all are
