Plus her vocabulary was flawless without any common grammar mistakes. As a European I think her language coach did an awful job in teaching her to be an authentic second language talker. And again: Not close to German accent at all. Let's just talk about her R's. A German R is very hard and her was rounded and soft.

Jessica Lange plays the 'fallen on hard times"- diva so well. When you watch her as Elsa and Fiona Goode, she exudes 'forgone glory'. But Fiona has always had an inner mean streak and she let that take over. Elsa was a traumatized individual. She kinda exploited her freaks but she did truly care for them. Or, did she? The freaks loved eachother. But when Elsa stood up for them, protected them and took revenge on those who did them harm, she could turn very angry when anyone messed with her freaks was she really upset or was she 'just' defending her property? Her collection? Or, was it because she saw herself in them. When she was helpless and someone cut her legs off, there was nothing she could do. But now, she always had the chance to protect herself, through them. After all, her dream of becoming a star is what mattered most to her. But I think there was genuine love...
This season was so underrated. Yes, there wasn't really an overarching story, but I think it was more about just the life of a "freak," that they were trying to show.
Then why did they make Jessica Lange overshine the actual story? This season was about her and thats why people dont like it. I looked forward to this season but I knew that Jessica Lange would steal the show like she did the three last seasons. And what do you know... The entire finale was dedicated to her and you forgot that there was actually a massacre with important characters dying. Even her death was glorified and no focus on the freaks what so ever
Lakkarino Sacrificerino Kripperino She Plays the Literal Passive/Aggresive characters, I mean Look at Lily's characters, She usually playa the sweet or distressed ones, While Sarah has the curious and rather smart ones types, Billie Dean,Cordelia,Lana and more,Kathy just fits in well with rather old and bitchy and or sad characters, I want Myrtle to slap me and Frances usually gets the nicer bunch sometimes, yeah, Denis seems to play the rather likeable and weird ones, Spolding and Liz for example, Madison is pretty much Chanel Oberlin or Chanel Oberlin is pretty much Madison, But one of them is a witch and the isn't, Why did I write this, I don't know.
The only season to be a lot sadder than it was scary. Some scenes almost broke my heart (Elsa revealing her lower legs were chainsawed off in an attempted snuff movie and the freaks comforting her in bed; the nurse waking up to her father having transformed her into Lizard Girl, Lobster Boy losing his hands, the tiny woman having her neck broken, dandy's mother knowing her son is a psychopath, the hatred and discrimination toward the "freaks" and just the absolute desperate loneliness of every single character...)

It really is their best season. The characters were all fantastic, their stories were so heartbreaking but the ending was amazing. They all eventually found their happiness.

This is the saddest season of all , all the characters were shaped by suffering and trauma , everyone 's stories are heartbreaking , every episode was devastating .
I haven’t seen the whole season yet but I feel so bad for Bette; she’s so naive and gullible but also hopeful and such a ray of sunshine. Dot is cautious and looks too much on the dark side, she ruins it for Bette too. Dot is sort of selfish; it made me tear up when Bette said “Won’t you miss me? I know I’ll miss you!” and Dot just stayed silent🥺🥺🥺🥺
Every time I listen to this song, I tear up. IDK why, it just brings back incredible memories of this show, in general. Every season was special to me in some way, and I don’t know if I’ll ever rewatch it b/c I’d cry too much😂 this video montage makes me reminisce on all that happened in Freak Show, and I just can’t help but cry!

I love the ending of this season, always makes me cry. And to those who hate it because it's a happy ending, it was for Jessica Lange because she had to leave AHS, and what better way to bid a legend goodbye than to let her go and live with all her family in "freak" heaven?

Just started watching AHS about two weeks ago. I'm watching the current season and just started Hotel. Just about everyone I talked to said Freak Show was they're least favorite so I didn't get my hopes up for it. I have to say that Freak Show is by far my favorite of the series so far. This is one of Jessica Lange's best performances ever. The music is awesome. My appreciation has a lot to do with seeing one of the last Freak Shows when I was ten in 1989. There were only four freaks (strong man, fat lady, tattooed lady and lizard man) and a small museum. The museum was really cool but what I remember most was Ivan the Strongman. He blew up a hot water bottle, ripped a phone book in half and tied a piece of rebar in a knot.
I think it really depends on opinion and personal taste. For example both Freakshow and Hotel are my favourite seasons. But, I am not too big of a fan of Asylum and I'm struggling to get through Murder House.

Jessica Lange is such an amazing actor that she pulls a character off so well you either hate her or love her, unlike some other actors on the show we always love (no hate, I love them too)
This season was seriously the best along with Asylum. In Freakshow, we got SONGS, JESSICA LANGE, almost all the original cast, great storytelling and cinematography. They couldn’t use the clown very well BUT it was still 10/10. I hope Ryan Murphy makes a great crossover with Freakshow soon. I’d love to see Freakshow x new season x Asylum. Elsa Mars was so iconic. Pepper seeing Elsa at the hospital was SO ICONIC.

On the cover of David Bowie's "Hunky Dory" album, where this song was originally released in 1971, he poses with his hands in his long blond hair the way he'd seen the "Old Hollywood" German actress Marlene Dietrich pose in a book of her 1930s photos. The suit and makeup Jessica wears here are based on Bowie's look in the 1973 video for this song. I'd bet the writers made Jessica's character German to sing this song as an ersatz-Marlene/Bowie. Back in the 70s, Bowie was *TOTALLY* considered a freak. A shame Bowie couldn't be on this show. He'd've been terrific.

Dot is sort of selfish; it made me tear up when Bette said “Won’t you miss me? I know I’ll miss you!” and Dot just stayed silent🥺🥺🥺🥺

Every time I listen to this song, I tear up. IDK why, it just brings back incredible memories of this show, in general. Every season was special to me in some way, and I don’t know if I’ll ever rewatch it b/c I’d cry too much😂 this video montage makes me reminisce on all that happened in Freak Show, and I just can’t help but cry!

I love the ending of this season, always makes me cry. And to those who hate it because it's a happy ending, it was for Jessica Lange because she had to leave AHS, and what better way to bid a legend goodbye than to let her go and live with all her family in "freak" heaven?
this was my favorite season, not because it was the scariest but it was full of stories and some were so sad I ended up crying a few times watching freak show

Just started watching AHS about two weeks ago. I'm watching the current season and just started Hotel. Just about everyone I talked to said Freak Show was they're least favorite so I didn't get my hopes up for it. I have to say that Freak Show is by far my favorite of the series so far. This is one of Jessica Lange's best performances ever. The music is awesome. My appreciation has a lot to do with seeing one of the last Freak Shows when I was ten in 1989. There were only four freaks (strong man, fat lady, tattooed lady and lizard man) and a small museum. The museum was really cool but what I remember most was Ivan the Strongman. He blew up a hot water bottle, ripped a phone book in half and tied a piece of rebar in a knot.
Season 5 is the worst imo
Season 5 was cool asf. Worst season is probably freak show. Season 1 & 2 are favorites.

I think it really depends on opinion and personal taste. For example both Freakshow and Hotel are my favourite seasons. But, I am not too big of a fan of Asylum and I'm struggling to get through Murder House.

Jessica Lange is such an amazing actor that she pulls a character off so well you either hate her or love her, unlike some other actors on the show we always love (no hate, I love them too)
This season was seriously the best along with Asylum. In Freakshow, we got SONGS, JESSICA LANGE, almost all the original cast, great storytelling and cinematography. They couldn’t use the clown very well BUT it was still 10/10. I hope Ryan Murphy makes a great crossover with Freakshow soon. I’d love to see Freakshow x new season x Asylum. Elsa Mars was so iconic. Pepper seeing Elsa at the hospital was SO ICONIC.
