Bowie sing it with anger, while Aurora sing it with disappointment. Wonderful, thank you.
You nailed it, bro!!
I admit I'm a giant snob when it comes to people covering David Bowie tunes, especially this one. But this performance was so excellent-- a true reinterpretation while still being so, so respectful of the original. She FELT this song. This was absolutely excellent... I could hardly breathe when she sang it. What a voice. What presence. Just wonderful.
i teared up. so much emotion. makes me happy to be alive
She feels EVERY song.
Sarah Blanko has a great version of this song
He would be happy.
best cover indeed. David would definately put his thumbs up saying, there goes my song.
I think bowie would have liked this cover
I think so too
Big style mate!
He would have been blown away by it...
Also Aurora herself
😢❤️
She is a Viking fairy. No one can touch her because she is from a whole different world.
Do you know what a viking is?
You are not from a whole different world if you appear on the Howard Stern Show, that's for sure. She's just weird, that's the Björk-Effect, people automatically think it's super artistic.
As my Great Grandfather came to this part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain foothills in 1892 .. Settled.. He would tell me the spoken history stories of the ancestors , his grandfathers and elders of the Viking Sagas,, Gods and Family ,,Skol..... which is what Vikings said after a Victory and drank from the skulls of the defeated... Skol All
She is definitely not from this planet 🌎
I love her
FORGET YOUR MAINSTREAM ARTISTS THIS GIRL IS SIMPLY A GENIUS.
All the mainstream artists today copied this girl YEARS ago. She does not get the recognition she deserves imo.
@@bongzilla4172 Try to Copy, but secretly envy her
Genius? She's covering someone else's song
@@Vera-xu3xw Your point? She completely reinterpreted the song but still had great respect for the original. Not easy to do. Plus she has about 4 original albums, all unique and amazing. Keep quiet unless you've something useful to say
Her videos get hundreds of millions of views...she's pretty mainstream.
She didnt just sing the song, she understood the meaning of the song. Brutal xxx
As amazing as this song and cover is, didn’t Bowie just pick random words from a newsletter when writing this song? I don’t really thing there is that much of a meaning in the original I think she definitely found a meaning in it just not the one intended because there kind of wasn’t one
Heart cutting, in the realest way
@@zewaisnel6130 I do not think Bowie would write a song without any kind of meaning. It was not Bowie form to write meaningless songs, as far as I've looked into all the magic stuff related to Bowie's past.
@@FernandoPaladini true, I agree but the meaning might be based on feel rather than the words. AA lot of writers dont care to make people think about something, in fact being overly direct can take away from feel. And Bowie was trying to express how he felt inside through melody, a loose lyrical theme, to create an overall mood, or... _feel_ lol there's no better word for it, it's all feel.
It's subtle, but the note she picks for when she sings the word "Mars" is pure musical genious.
Aurora is so precise but feels so effortless. I just *love* to listen to her sing.
That was the precise note I was waiting expectantly for. 🖤
Thats the part that makes me just weep.
Really nice. Reminded me of a song the female character sang in "Once".
Pretty sure this girl might be an angel or alien or something.
not anymore
@@marcostorrestaboada5502 yes we still do :)
She’s the spirit from Frozen 2 - and so enchanting!
She's Lelu from 5th Element
@@marcostorrestaboada5502 ?
This cover of "Life on Mars?" actually brought tears to my eyes when I heard it for the first time
Same
@@Johnnywhamo thanks guys, glad I’m not the only one! I remember liking it on Stern but I’m sitting here with tears dripping down my cheeks. I used to think of myself as a strong, mans man up until about 6 minutes ago.
Me too.
same!
Listening for the first time. Tears.😢
Her voice sounds like the moonlight shining on the calm surface of a clear lake in the winter night
David Bowie would've loved this version 💜
I totally agree.
Before he passed away, I asked him about covers, he said he hated them all
@@broluxgigantos89 you sure did lol he loved Seu Jorge's covers and liked Philip glass heroes, as well as many others...he just didnt liked people that didn't put their own identity on the covers and ended up imitating him
@@broluxgigantos89 haha pin ups is entirely made up of covers lmao and I just love sorrow sung by Bowie though 👌
wow she’s got such a vocal range... i’m not crying, you’re crying
She also does a great Massive Attack version of Teardrop
I LOVE that version!
Haunting. I love it!
So good!
I know it's sublime!
@@jennifer9047from Triple J
Singing a Bowie song normally is an impossible thing,
but this version is so beautiful.
David would have loved it.
Haven't gotten chills like this from a female singer since BJORK!! PHENOMENAL! RIP BOWIE!!!!!
are they both Icelandic??
@@tiffanyhardin1840 Aurora is norwegian, but actually they know each other because Bjork has been to some Aurora shows
@@tiffanyhardin1840 no, aurora is norwegian
Aurora is Norwegian.
She is actually from my home town Os in Hordaland, Norway❤️😍👏🏼 We are very proud🥰
holy...why am I crying...? damn, Aurora
Hard to believe that people are just hearing AURORA for the first time, although it is the first time for me to hear this specific performance! All of Aurora’s covers are great! Her original music and live performances are fantastic!
I’m new to her myself a year later… she’s amazing
Aurora on the Stern show. Never would’ve imagined.
My heart just broke a little at the honesty of it all. Brutally beautiful interpretation.
she made it so sombre... it's so melancholic, I really love it too.
Aurora is a young woman of immeasurable talent.
Shout out to the pianist. Softly and flawlessly guiding those vocals. A great performance by both.
She does one hell of job covering Across the Universe too. A very unique and talented artist.
Aurora is an incredible singer. Her voice is mature beyond her age. I'm not a fan of most of her music if I'm being honest. But I recommend her to girls learning to sing. The control she has over her voice and her dynamics are as good as they get. Check out Aurora with Wardruna - Helvegen, live. It's a viking song, and it's absolutely mesmerizing, and one of the best vocal performances I've heard.
She’s a bit of a prodigy … not sure that can be taught, only studied and admired 🙂
She's so perfunctory with interviewers be sometimes and I love it
Got me tearing up.
Bowie would have loved her.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 BRAVA !
Aurora is too good for the Stern show. The purest of hearts.
too pretentious, completely dishonest.
She’s obviously not, she performed on his show.
I think she was NOINEteen
I totally agree, he's a Caveman in the presence of Angelic Beauty.
@@hughjanus5525 This was on July 25th 2016 so about ~1.5 months after she turned 20.
I think this is the first time I've ever REALLY heard this song. She really has an epic talent for covers!
Aurora always nails it. She's amazing:0)
Good god this woman is talented. No acting there she is pure unadulterated feeling. Absolutely transfixed watching her emotional interpretation.
I first heard of Aurora when I watched Frozen 2 and needed to find out who the voice of the spirit was. She’s absolutely mesmerizing 🥰
X2
ohhhhhhhh that makes alot of sense, she does feeel magical as shit
Breathless, She left me breathless
Isn’t it funny how music makes us feel nostalgia happy sad at the same time
i don't get goosebumps too often from music, but this young lady done gave me goosebumps.
Bowie would've featured her. She is so Bowieyy, she makes you feel it what Bowie would've felt while writing this.
Heard this live on Howard originally and fell through the looking glass into Aurora’s world and have been hooked ever since. So glad they finally out this on UA-cam, this is the best version of this song from her.
Aurora
I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve enjoyed a Bowie cover and this is one of them. Such a dreamy surreal take not just a one for one remake. Gorgeous.
Pretty sure my mutual love for this particular Bowie song is how Aurora ended up in my algorithm 4.5 years ago. Best discovery of my life!
She needs to come back on ASAP
She is... So amazingly talented. There is such a depth of understanding of music in her performances, along with a very visceral connection to the songs. You often get one or the other, not both. She's got SO MUCH vocal control, too.
Finding Aurora is absolutely the best thing TikTok has done for me. She is a magical creature we must protect at all costs.... I love this and that it's from 2016.
Ever since she covered Half the World Away have been hooked, her head voice to full voice is flawless!!!!👌🏻
She was sent to save us all.
She's so haunting in this song... I hope he had a chance to hear her perform this...
He actually died in January of 2016, so I don't think he ever did :(
Aurora NEVER DISAPPOINTS.
This is a angel who sends a message to David Bowie up in music heaven. And Bowie loves it.
Been looking for this for awhile. Bought her cd because of this and was not disappointed. She is god gifted
I keep coming back to this but it is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard!
That "show" at 2:14 sent siren chills down my spine. My god...
People sometimes forget about the musician next to the artist, what a privilege to play alongside (and have the talent to be able to do so).
The way she sings in falsetto. It feels like a lullaby to me. ♥️♥️♥️
My heart is so full of love for this amazing person, it's amazing to see how finally more and more people are getting to know her musical genius!
Never heard of this artist. This is a fantastic cover.
You should give her origional material a listen. She is something else.
Listen to “the river” live in Bergen with orchestra. You’re welcome.
She runs with the wolves apparentley.
She's got to be a Michael Stipe fan! Those arm movements pure class. Loved this rendition beautiful.
Jeez, this caught me off guard. Wow!
To his credit Stern has pulled some absolutely awesome performances out of guests and this is certainly one of them. An incredibly beautiful rendering.
Like many out there I think I embody Bowie from being a low teen captivated by his first five or so albums. Wore those damn things out knowing every word. That being said Aurora nailed it. For being young coming in later she was able to hit the tone so many others miss, and yet made it her own. Fantastic job.
I was hanging on every note .. never felt so much anticipation for the next line before..
The way to express herself is genuinely because she feels the music and its meaning of this deep song... That was flawless! There is nothing that can be improved! This is absolute perfection.
this is my 1st time hearing her and now im addicted to her angelic voice
Absolutely beautiful
Minute 2:29 one of the best things I have ever heard on my whole entire life. She is a real life angel.
Aurora is an angel whose songs take over her soul when she performs. Been a longtime fan. She is ethereal. I found her angelic voice at the end of a Girls' episode. She sang this very song. Like a siren, she drew me in.
If Bowie was here he would say … “ now I know why I wrote this song “
I heard this cover for the first time yesterday
I cannot get over how great she is
Shes just so wonderful
What a beautiful creature
love the nod to "My Way" in the opening refrain - Bowie said he wrote "Life On Mars" as his take on/take off of "My Way"
I could not bear to watch this. It's that good.
her song "Daydreamer" is GENIUS !!
This was a powerfully simple cover that completely captures the essence of the original yet making it something so special. That was a hauntingly beautiful performance.
Aurora is every bit of an artistic genius as Bowie. These are both rare, incredible human beings
I listen to Aurora when she sings songs I don't care for then turns them into magic.
Wow!! She feels the song🥰😎
Remarkable. A beautifully haunting voice which astoundingly, almost makes the song her own.
She achieved the same feat of vocal brilliance when she covered the Chas & Dave 1979 classic, 'Gertcha'.
Unreal. Otherworldly.
Howard loved it! Aurora is so pure. Protect her at all costs!
If you love Aurora, you'd love Susanne Sundfør too 💕
This. Is. Magical.
Just discovered her via Cure For Me, doing a deep dive. She's freaking amazing!
My soul left the body for a second listening to that
Such perfection!
Wonderful.. a weaving of words.. and voice.. inducing story telling
I love her voice. Amazing.
It's a god-awful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair
But her mummy is yelling, "No!"
And her daddy has told her to go
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen
But the film is a saddening bore
For she's lived it ten times or more
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on
[Chorus:]
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man!
Look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?
It's on America's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow
Now the workers have struck for fame
'Cause Lennon's on sale again
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause I wrote it ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on
AURORA's voice is otherworldly
What an Angelic performance.
How can you not Love Aurora
Overwhelmingly beautiful...
I keep coming back to Aurora's and Lorde’s covers of Life On Mars. It's my favourite David Bowie song and I love both Aurora's and Lorde's covers as they're both beautifuly different interpretations of it. Each stirs so many emotions inside. They're so stunning 💜.
It was with this song that I've discovered Aurora and I couldn't help becoming a fan, it was made with a guitar the one I first saw. Thank you Bowie for passing out the torch
Whoa … David would be so pleased. What great interpretation of a classic song, with a voice that gave me goosebumps
Goosebumps multiple times. A single long tear dripping out my right eye. Beautiful!!!
Aurora is so enchanting!! Her voice just sucks me in like a beautiful siren fairy 👌💙
She deserves everything
I'm increasingly of the mind that Aurora really is a transcendent talent. I have yet to hear her sing anything - anything - into which she does not pour 100% of her heart and soul. It's really breathtaking.
Captivating. No other words needed
Not gonna lie, she brought a tear to my eye. What a fantastic cover! She did it great justice.
Her expression and the pianist compliment each other so well!
her voice always gives me goosebumps
Beautiful 💙
Daaaaaayum. Mind and ears blown. This woman (and her accompanying musician, btw) are immense talents!
I still follow this girl's career just because of this interview. She was nominated for a grammy recently.
This is another league of power here. Oh my God, please give us more people like this!!!
