I'm not gay, myself but I cried at this. Cheryl Wright's so brave and so is Ellen. I hope that someday people can learn to be compassionate and accept other people for who they are.

We all wanne be different and individual, but if we are so we not gonna accepted like our own unique human beings!I really hope all these "issues" doesen´t matter someday!

I don't really see a reason to hate people who simply just love.
love is equal , love is amazing and love can lift you up . If you are able to raise in love , what does it matter if it's a man or a woman?

I've always been a Chely Wright fan, from her first album. When I first heard she announced that she's gay, it surprised me, but, didn't change how I felt about her as a person or an artist. I'm glad she's free now that she's unburdened herself from that secret. I hope she keeps making her music and is forever happy in her life. My favorite song (that I also learned to play on guitar) is, "Emma Jean's Guitar." What a great finger-picking song!

I can't believe its 2016 and we care about someone being gay. I just like her cause she can sing, if she's gay who cares as long as she's happy , seems so nice,

I watched this video at least four times already and I am just so happy with her coming out. The story of her father was unfortunate to hear since he wasn't accepting on people being gay and she wanted to come out so bad, but I am glad he is now accepting. I almost cried when she explained how she searched her whole town and couldn't find anyone that was like her. Her story is absolutely fascinating and I might have to pick up Ellen's mother's book because I never even knew she made a book!

Wonderful! Everyone should read Chely Wright's autobiography. It's moving and also heartbreaking. How much longer will much of our country vilify our brothers and sisters who just happen to love the person they love? In all cultures in all ages there have been people born who fall in love with their same gender. I say "born" because they are born that way, as science has determined now for years. Every one of us is related to at least one gay person, even if we don't know it. May you have a happy and blessed life, Chely Wright. You deserve it!

I remember a guy on the school I went to who was 16 and proudly and open about being gay. You could not not know when you saw him, his clothes and his walk and all. He never let anyone put him down.
And I remember other people from back then who were so sad because they felt like hiding their feelings.
It is a great thing more and more entertainers and others lead the way and show that you can do it and be yourself and be proud.

God this struck a chord. I've known I was bisexual for a few years. I tried to tell my mum in the summer of 2012 (well, she kind of guessed something was up) but, as amazing as she is, she thought - like a lot of people - that it was a phase. And it hasn't been discussed since. I thought that I'd save the honest conversation for when I met a woman who I wanted to be with, but this has made me want to open that door with my parents again. To be honest, I probably won't. It's an incredibly difficult conversation to have, the thought makes me feel physically sick with worry.

I hate when people say that "God doesn't like it " because how do you know what God wants. We need to understand that the Bible was written by a human being not God so we can not based every argument on God this and God that. If someone wants to be homosexual let them be if that makes them happy you cannot deny them that. I am straight but just because I am does not give me the right to force everyone to be straight as well. We live in a world where there is so much violence and hatred so and man and man or woman and woman being together is not the worst thing I ever heard.

Me and my cousin live together with my parents and his dad. When he came out (cousin) for years my parents every once in awhile would always imply something to get a sexual preference from me. I'm straight and I knew that but because I didn't get involved with anyone they kept pushing the subject until I snapped at them. I know that there is prejudiced against gay people but that hurt me a lot too. It isn't the same but that still hurt me a lot. You don't know this pain till you experience it.

And no, you don't have to be "gay" to understand this, no, you just have to be human.
    Thank you Chely, thank you!

Chely is absolutely gorgeous, i am not gay however i respect them both hugely it must be so difficult growing up not feeling comfortable in your own body & having to hide a huge secret! Your Sexuality shouldnt matter.. True friends & Family should respect your wishes and support you no matter what! Both are True Inspirations xx

    You're very welcome.
Sexuality has an hierarchy in our society and Heterosexuality is at the top. Who the hell do we think we are to put our sexuality above others and dictate how everyone should live?

Even though I do not support homosexuality, I still love both these ladies! Ellen is so inspiring.

There is nothing to support. You just have to admit that people are people and nobody CHOSE to be gay any more than you chose to be straight or born in a certain way. Saying," I don't support homosexuality" is like saying I don't support people with high IQ's or people who are Russian.

it's so cool and understanding of Ellen's mom to accept her for who she is. Chely's dad too is great for accepting his daughter. Sadly this topic is a big no no whr I come from and my folks are not for it.

i know its hard to come out. It took me to come out here to Cali to actually to come out. Ive been a lesbian now for 8 years but i know that im not a monster or stranger. but where im from it wasnt something you do. Ive lost all my family that i grew up with. Now im making my own family. LGBT all the way.

If you had any idea how scary it is to even admit to YOURSELF that you are gay then you wouldn't be saying it. By breaking off her relationship with him it would be one step closer to actually coming out and that is the MOST terrifying thing of a gay persons life.

it may not be right, but they're still good people and it's not our place to judge god has to help them and we can't judge anyone for their actions or tell them they're wrong, they have to find that out on their own through God , it's his job, no one person is perfect. so just be there for them in their time of struggle. Ellen is an amazingly nice person with a heart of gold. so let people like Ellen and others like her fight her own battle cause God is right there with her and we all know that, she will make the right choice and who knows god will show us too
