A close friend of mine caught a stray to the head. Highland is a dangerous area especially if you are not known there. Also Northside Howard Street. Be careful 🤨

There is a UA-cam video about them called “Legends of Highland. “ Not mentioned in that video is Kitty Black Perkins, who was the chief designer of dolls for the Mattel corp in CA for a number of years and designed the first black Barbie doll. Also from Spartanburg, I don’t know if from Highland, are Derrica and Natalie Wilson, who founded the National Black and Missing Foundation.

The city has just announced the creation of a leadership academy for the Highland neighborhood. 10 or 12 people will be trained in issues facing the neighborhood and will develop a plan for neighborhood improvement.
These apartments are now completely abandoned and the entrances are blocked. The residents have been relocated to a new apartment complex several blocks away. I don’t know the timetable for demolition of these apartments. Spartanburg’s new fire department headquarters is located across the street from the new apartment complex giving the the residents very short wait times on fire calls.
I live in the Midlands of SC, west of Columbia out in the country. I was surprised when ol' boy on the left said he was born and raised in Spartanburg because that accent didn't sound like SC.
I also can relate to them for I came up hard and was adopted at age 13. Back then I had to pick up cans and bottles just so I could eat those days are long gone but never will be forgotten.

South Carolina got tons of area's like this outside the bigger cities. Most are just run down rural towns with no jobs shit schools high crime and no infrastructure to help the folks that live their. Your only options are to be very athletically or academically inclined and get a scholarship and hope that you can make it in college or join the military and make it through boot camp that's it. The rest just stay put around their area where they know everybody cuz that's all they know. Come through Cherokee county SC Gaffney and Blacksburg SC , Gaston county NC Gastonia and Cleveland county NC Shelby. York county SC Chester county SC.
