Intel CEO Gelsinger on 'Massive' New Hub, Chip Shortage

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger discusses the company's plans to spend $20 billion on a chipmaking hub on the outskirts of Columbus, Ohio, and the efforts to alleviate the supply-chain issues in the semiconductor industry. He speaks on "Bloomberg Markets: The Close."
So good to hear from a CEO who isn’t just a pencil pusher whose goal in life is to save 30% at the R&D budget to improve shareholder value for the next quarter.
Well they still pay dividends instead of investing this money into R&D

@@play-joke1378 I mean it just makes sense to have production in America to deliver to American companies and eventually to American consumers. In a sense of National Security Intel is strategically important to the United States
Lets go Intel!
Thank you Intel for creating jobs.
they dont create jobs for you then for top managers and they will eat money from tax payers and profit from company will go to assholes on top
Man and company of the decade
thats they way it seems!
That is what happens when Intel switches a CEO who is a businessman for a CEO who is an engineer, and America switches a president who wants to bring back steel manufacturing for a president who wants to bring back high-tech chip manufacturing.
You mean Biden gives a billionaire millions in subsidies lol. Imagine a company this filthy rich needing American taxpayer money to make something that should have been made here years ago
@@TitusandTesla You mean how the GOP has been giving BILLIONS in subsidies to oil billionaires every year for the past 60 years? Imagine filthy rich oil companies and their BILLIONAIRE owners need American taxpayer money for something that generates BILLIONS in profits every year.
@@TitusandTesla , didn't Trump give billionaires and millionaires over a trillion in tax breaks after his tax reform? Did you whine back then too?
@@madinkan Great job Intel, my dad used to work for them in 1980s! Theres no need to bring Trump or Biden into this, US needs all manufacturing it can bring back or it can create, the more the better. Build Back Better also had tax cuts similar that Trump did for the rich, Congress rarely works for the people, special interests groups and the rich always gotto be looked after no matter who's the POTUS. Hopefully other companies follow Intel, be it steel or other products.
@@ozinvesting6517 , I did bring Biden into this because Intel's CEO did give credit to Biden's CHIP act for the construction of the fab
Chips sourcing is a matter of national security.
as we have seen recently

My home price going through the roof it's a 10 minute drive to new Albany yayyyy 😆 🤣 😂
Yes but the next house you buy in the area has seen its price go through the roof as well.
The chips act will never pass

Why so far from Wyoming you build this chip factory ?
where from OH produce as good as WY substrate? What about shipping cost and substrate aging?
The light volcanic ash soil is most crucial for Wy quality.
Just bought 200 at 50.
TSMC started building a 2nm fab in Hsinchu two years ago at the cost of $40 billion. So why can Intel make a 2nm fab at a low price of $20 billion? And the factory is in the US, which is usually more expensive?
In terms of whatever 2nm would be (intels 20A), I doubt tsmc has any advantage right now on intel in that, as they both are slated to come ok but at the same time as it looks now, and intel could even have the advantage because we know that their 7nm (intel 4) has almost as much transistor density as tmac 3nm.
All intel has to worry about is fixing their manufacturing process, and if they have truly fixed their manufacturing process, they don't have to worry about any other thing, as they're processes have always had advantages over time and Samsung on the same node.
Great job intel. From Cleveland, live in Florida, but my heart skips a beat when I hear him say "Silicon Heartland" ❤❤❤

Gelsinger is all over the places talking.
next make computers in Ohio too and phones
I am not sure about the morality of spending public tax payer money on a company that gives 10s of billions of $ as dividends to its investors. This is just a wealth transaction from the poor to the rich.
Totally agree.
Agreed. but would you rather chip fabrication remain in China and leaves us without any chips if a cold war breaks between china and the west. This is a national security issue, it's not just about money. We have to think long term. And even if no war breaks out we can't "keep all our eggs in 1 basket" with TSMC. If any environmental disaster happens in Taiwan it will slow down all our modern life.
Just stop the stock buybacks and invest in the company, stop the CEO corruption
There is no stock buy back right now.
CEO needs to get the stock price UP. And this quarter.
India 🇮🇳 can manufacturer better then China 🇨🇳 with " quality ", ethics and skill workers. We can expert less price products from 🇮🇳. several company's like Dell IBM EY tayota Bosh ...ect (around 150000 companys) are operational in India with out any problem and skilled labor. Even Government promoting new companies with incentives and some times free land allocation. In India for rapid transport 5 DFC are under construction 27 8 line national Hiways are adding in 2022.. Thanks to government😍

Dear India govt supporter .. India future for next 20years were sealed when
1.A clown declared demonetization one fine day
2. That same Clown was re-elected for second term by religion crazed hooligans despite ruining the economy.
The people are great but you seriously need a government change that would focus building a solid economy rather than religion based propaganda government
4 Years minimum construction....
U really can't do any electric or plumbing in Columbus until, march or April minimum
Construction time should not be a consideration factor. The lack of talent is the fatal point. Chip factories need a large number of highly educated semiconductor scientists. Most of the world's semiconductor talent is in Taiwan. It took Taiwan decades to develop so many knowledgeable semiconductor talents. Intel is currently vigorously poaching Taiwanese talents. As long as a TSMC engineer is poached, Intel will give a reward of US$8,000.
why do Republicans want to stop this?
Republicans don't want to stop the Chip Act.What happens is democrats like Pelosi start loading a bill up with handouts to all of her many special interests and add things like her deranged voter bill which will alter America forever. The democrats basically poison pill the bill and blame Republicans for not passing it.
@@johneaston197 i thought it was McConnell thought Schumer insulted him.
@@johneaston197 Having fair elections is a poison pill? Someone like you should live in a system like China, seems to fit you much better. But you’re right at one point, US politics always tries to cramp in unrelated stuff into important bills. But as a European I must say the US is a failed democracy & will hurt the world… Going from the savior (WW2) to it current state is just sad!
@@benjaminh.7698 You want a fair election? OK, here's how we accomplish it. You register to vote (not racist or hard), the election board sends you a info card with the polling location. Sometime during the course of the year, you drive past it to find the ,location. (not racist or hard). On Election DAY, you go to your polling place, show them your ID to let them know you're who you say you are, and vote. (Once again, not racist or hard).There. We have a fair, clean election.
@@johneaston197 The most important thing is that the popular vote should count. And you have to make sure that the polling location are not to far away. And that there are enough for the population in this area. Also I don‘t understand why you have to register to vote. Are you living in the Middle Ages? In first world countries citizen are usually automatically registered. What’s wrong in your country?
Intel chips are still more reliable than AMD. Good they didn't lowball like AMD and follow a price war.
china could build that fab in a month tho, why yaw dont hurry it up. call more help get it done!
If that was true they wouldn't need tawain so badly.
China is currently an importer of semiconductors, not an exporter. China imports more than $300 billion in semiconductors each year, and Taiwan's annual trade surplus with China of nearly $200 billion comes from semiconductor sales. China's largest semiconductor company, SMIC, whose earnings report revealed that half of its revenue comes from 65nm, China is currently unable to manufacture cutting-edge chips.
