I think that some of the C PTSD symptoms come also from the fact that every time you have an argument with the narc he doesn't let you express everything you feel, maybe you're angry and upset as well but you're not allowed to say anything to them because they will scream louder and maybe hit you...

Journaling is effective for releasing repressed unexpressed feelings and going for a walk listening to music are both highly therapeutic. Pick a variety of your favorite tunes that match your mood during your walk as you'll find your mood shifts as your body releases the tension. Both these methods are gentle and help you feel better relatively quickly without discomfort.

I can attest to EMDR therapy. It has helped me 💯 defeat the anxiety and trauma that once crippled my day to day life. It is incredible how effective and fast it works. My amazing therapist introduced EMDR into our sessions and within a few months it was working. For example one of my biggest triggers was/is an abusive ex boyfriend who also happens to be my ex business partner. After EMDR I am no longer affected by his threats or harmful intentions. It's like my body and my mind are now in sync and I have control over how my body and mind responds. Instead of feeling pain and anguish for days on end, it's now only a minute until my brain kicks in and I feel fine, like nothing ever happened. It's a new reality and is honestly life changing and I am so grateful my therapist suggested EMDR.

Sometimes we have to feel it to heal it to shake it off, KNOW that it often feels worse before you feel better but it works.

I have 2 questions about EMDR:
    1. What if remembering past traumatic events causes physical responses (such as beating heart) but you are not out of the danger zone. Do you still want to end these responses? For example if have been abused by an ex who has stopped you seeing you child and they are still doing this, then would EMDR stop you from having emotional responses when remembering things from the past?
    2. I have heard it can cause you to lose memories and therefore not to be used if in court?

refractedphoton it doesn’t not cause you to lose memories, in fact it can be the opposite. Trauma responses come from your brain thinking you are literally about to be eaten by a lion. Now I completely understand that what you ate going through with your ex is awful, you aren’t going to die or get eaten by a lion. Normal responses relevant to situations can give you an edge with awareness but heightened responses can lead to disease and illness. Hope that helps?

What if, after historic abuse and psychotherapy, you don't know what's the worst bit and you can sometimes talk about it fine, yet you really struggle with shame, intrusive images, memories of the abuse that seem just to make you angry, and hypervigilance after fight or flight. Will emdr still work?

This explains a lot. I have been in the freeze mode for over a month now. I keep saying that it’s as though my brain is split in half and both halves are fighting against each other. In this state of mind I feel frozen, and in a severe fog. I don’t know what to do.... just one foot in front of the other. Taking baby steps. And it makes me so exhausted. Adrenal fatigue seems worse now.

My adult daughter is the narcissistic abuser in my life. So it’s almost virtual impossible to move completely away from her in my mind and heart! WTH do I do?? Plz help!! It’s been ten years at least of constant abuse. I also lost both my brothers 2 years ago. It’s like I’m stuck in a box filled with broken glass!!
