I started taking Berberine about 6 months ago. I lost 12 pounds and my A1C went from 6.2 down to 6.0. That’s not a huge difference but that was the only thing I changed so I would say it definitely works. Update: 7.8.24 I had my A1C checked recently and it’s down to 5.6. No longer in pre-diabetic range. My insulin level is much better as well but I can’t remember the number it was.

Started taking it 6 days ago, first three days I had some anxiety, not sure if related or hormonal. Days 4,5 and 6 I have had minimal appetite, it has absolutely killed my appetite as I was constantly voracious before especially wanting to eat something sweet around 2-3pm. In the last few days the idea of eating something sweet is almost....repulsive. Scale went down 2 pounds which is water weight at this point but at least the scale is moving in the right direction lol
I’ve been taking Berberine only a few weeks and I’ve seen a difference. I’m not even taking as a large a dose and only once a day. I think it’s amazing. I’ve had so much trouble shifting weight since I took an injectable migraine medication (ajovy ) and had terrible side affects.
thank you for the information. once the weight is gone , A1c, insulin are back to normal, do you required to continue to take berberine for maintenance and can you lower the dosage? thank you
I've always had trouble with taking Metformin, but I read somewhere that taking Berberine with it helps with these side effects. SO I used them together for a few months and now I'm just on Metformin and had no issues. Once I get my diet figured out, I'm going to try switching to just Berberine.
My 18 year old daughter was suffering from PCOS! The the doctors would not give her anything for it, and they didn’t understand what was going on. She had her period for two month straight and was low on iron. They recommended her to take iron pills that were not working and to change her diet. Nothing else was given a recommended.. after a couple of weeks of a lot of frustration stress and just watching my daughter, get worse and worse each day I started to research PCOS. I got her on a few supplements from ancestral supplements to keep her iron in check, and help with energy and also I purchased “Pure Encapsulations Inositol!” This really worked for her in two months she was able to lose 10 pounds and started to feel better the brain fog got better as well. Her sugar levels are still a bit high, so I’m going to try this berberine!
I’ve had a healthy diet throughout my adult life, and even started a reasonably strict diet and exercise routine in 2017 but still struggle with being overweight, pre-diabetic, and having high cholesterol. I introduced berberine less than 2 weeks ago, and while I haven’t made any other changes I have lost 5 pounds within that time. The tight pants I tried on a month ago I can now pull off without unbuttoning them as well. I’m interested to see if this continues, and what my follow-up bloodwork shows in a couple of weeks.
Leptin is a mediator of long-term regulation of energy balance, suppressing food intake and thereby inducing weight loss. Ghrelin on the other hand is a fast-acting hormone, seemingly playing a role in meal initiation.
I’ve been taking berberine for about 15 weeks. Not seeing any changes in weight or appetite, but my lipids were perfect in early Feb. They had been trending up.
Thank you for this informative video. I am a healthcare professional , lifestyle educator and have just started taking Berberine, myself. I am interested in what your thoughts are on the dihydroberberine form of this supplement? Much gratitude!
Hi, I’m not on any prescription meds but I do take vitamins and supplements I would like to start Berberine, but would like to know is there any supplement or vitamin that I should avoid taking while taking the Berberine thanks much, appreciated!!!
mine was 1000mg per capsule i took beberine for a week or so, and started feeling sick, (hedaches, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps) and realize my skin was turning yellowish (jaundice). i got my bloods tested and my liver enzymes shot up to the hundreds (mmol/l) so i had to stop taking it. which means it was causing drug induced liver damage. after stopping for awhile, my liver enzymes went back to normal. months later, even when i tried to have just 1 pill (1000mg) i get the same headache and vomiting reaction. i wish it worked on me.
I started taking it and the same but was not sure if it was something else I was taking, stopped both and just started taking it again 600ml to start and see. Hopefully my body can tolerate it.
1,000 mg per dose is too high. It should be small doses before each meal. Try 500 mg once a day, then increase to twice a day after your body adapts. Just a suggestion 😊
Can go please do a video on phytosome Berberine. I switched to this Berberine a few months and wondering if it is just as effective as regular Berberine. Thanks.
I thought ghrelin was the hunger hormone, not leptin. "Leptin's main function is to help regulate the long-term balance between your body's food intake and energy use (expenditure). Leptin helps inhibit (prevent) hunger and regulate energy balance so that your body doesn't trigger a hunger response when it doesn't need energy (calories)." "Ghrelin is a hormone your stomach produces and releases. It signals your brain when your stomach is empty and it's time to eat."
I have just ordered this brand. Didn’t know if it was available in Australia but it is. Im not overweight but I’ve put on weight with menopause that I can not shift at all. I’m 57 years old 175cm and was always 61kgs but last few months that’s shot up to 66kgs. I’m very active and walk about 30kms a week and do two dance classes a week. I’ve tried fasting and low carb/fat . Although I was already eating healthily. I was on Phentermine but it didn’t work. Didn’t lose a pound ! I’m hoping this is going to help with not only the weight but also the other annoying menopause problems of hot flushes, insomnia. Thank you for this info. It popped up at the right time.
My issues are that it makes me constipated!!! But it does work for suppressing your appetite. Otherwise, it works well for managing weight and other health benefits.
I stopped it because it did constipate me too. I am going to try it again but instead of taking it a 1/2 hour before a meal I will take with 4oz of water with my meal and see if ingesting the 500 mg while eating makes a difference. I also bought the Double Wood brand of Berberine it’s 3rd party tested and less expensive since I’m just checking this out. Both Thorne and Double Wood come highly recommended. I am hoping I don’t experience constipation again as I would love to see my results in a 30 day trial. I had no side affects (except the latter) in the 2 weeks of 500 mg twice a day and it did curve my appetite and my cravings after dinner. I
@@cloud6526 that didn’t help but I’ve restarted taking it and only one 500 mg during lunch which I will keep doing for a couple of weeks to allow my body to absorb it and see. Right now all is good. When I take it twice a day that will also be increased slowly. Hopefully this is the way my body can work with this supplement. Thank you for this video I have just started taking Berberine, I am prediabetic so I am hopeful it will help me both with sugar issues as well as weight loss
I have listened to other diabetic specialists. They state that berberine has a low absorption rate as little as 5%. You did not address that part. Your information is on par with the others though. Thank you
Great video, I love your efficiency! My question is can I take Berberine once a day. I do intermittent fasting and eat within a 4 hour window. Thank you in advance! 😊
Same here with the eating window. Have you been able to find teh answer to this? Im trying to figure out timing/frequency specifically for appetite suppression effects to make it easier to lean down
Thanks for your question. While Berberine does seem to yield a positive effect on regulating blood sugar levels, taking it with certain diets like intermittent fasting styles can cause a dangerous drop in sugars for some individuals who are more sensitive to, if this is the case then avoiding berberine while intermittent fasting helps to prevent this effect.
I’m gonna have to give this a chance as i don’t know what else to do. I fast 3-4 times a week, I eat 3 small healthy portions between 1:pm and 7:30pm, I do 1.5 hours of cardio, and lift weights. I have been doing this since February 18,2023. Although I gained 3lbs in muscle weight (hopefully), I only managed to lose BARELY ONE inch around my waist 😩😭, and I say barely because it wasn’t even a whole inch. Almost but not quite.
Hi I am not a pro but.. you can try this without any health risk and it could work the explanation is to long but please give it a shot. Do less cardio 1/2 h max , lower your sodium ( could be water retention) , take organic kelp ( for iodine and other minerals) . Drink more water , eliminate process food. If you are a woman do not fast so much. Everything you are doing I did and did not lose weight , made this changes and lost all the excess. Cortisol could be causing u to gain weight cuz you are stressing your body to much and you might have slowed down your metabolism too much because of not eating enough, specially if you are lifting. I wish you the very best.
I'm no expert, but I personally feel that if your body is having issues losing weight, doing that much high intensity exercise is going to be a "bad" stress. If you're not losing weight doing all that, it sounds to me like some process in your body is not working right. If something is already having a hard time functioning properly, the last thing you want to do is make it work harder. One and a half hours of cardio all at once is way too much in my opinion, especially if you are doing high intensity. Have you tried just walking every day for 30-45 minutes?? Walking gets such a bad rap, but at a brisk pace I understand it can provide similar results to jogging, but is much less likely to cause pain/injury. And maybe look into red/infrared light therapy. You can get light panels to use at home. It apparently helps the mitochondria work properly.
@@NadiaKhaledArt thank you so much for your input, to both of you. I am thinking it might be my cortisol leves, so I’ve been thinking of going to go see an endocrinologist. I changed my eating habits about 6-7 months ago out of fear of being pre-diabetic (My dad was told he’s pre diabetic and so are about 4 other relatives). I read labels, and drink a lot of water (I live in Az) as I do most of my cardio outdoors. I average about a 1.2 gallon of water a day, I don’t consume sodium really. I struggle with keeping my refined sugar intake down, but I do well M-F. I do have high sugary foods on Saturday and Sunday. For example, I’ll have French toast on Saturday, and I’ll get myself a Frappuccino on Sunday. I incorporated walking about 2.5 months after I started healthy eating. I walked 4.5 miles every day, and lost about 15-18lbs just by adding my daily walks. Then I hit a plato, so I added lifting back in February of this year. Most of my fat is gone EXCEPT the fat around my core, upper and lower back and belly. I added one to two extra small high protein portions to my diet, to make sure I didn’t strain my body now that I’m lifting. I measured myself so I wouldn’t freak out if I gained muscle weight. I have gained just about an inch of muscle in my legs, calf, and buttocks. However, there hasn’t been a significant change in the fat around my back and waistline. I decrease my cardio to 40 minutes as of yesterday, and like I said before, I added an extra small meal or two to my daily food intake. I can’t seem to be able to get out of this plato, I feel like at this point there is gotta be something going on with my cortisol levels or something along those lines, so I’m going to get that checked. I do however, want to try this supplements out because even though I have health insurance, my deductible is high so most of the cost is out of pocket until I meet the deductible. I figure I could try this supplement for maybe 60-90 days and see if it’ll helps with the fat around my waistline. The thing is, I look very slim… I have a slim face, arms and legs, but I have like 15+ lbs of fat in my core section…it makes me look odd…kind of like a caterpillar if that makes sense.
Fasting too much and working out too much both contribute to high cortisol and high leptin levels. Search Sarah Kleiner wellness here on UA-cam. I was in the same spot as you. Completely unable to drop weight no matter what i did. Finally with berberine and Sarahs videos i'm dropping again.
Dr. Aspires, I just heard about Berberine. Thanks for your video. I helped with a few questions I have. One I seem not to find is how long to take it? I've read only 500 mg a day not with every meal. So every meal? Really.
Thanks for your question! There are more pathways than one, but if Berberine improves insulin resistance, it will subsequently improve energy expenditure, and as a result may reduce body weight.
All I know you have such a kind face Dr and soothing voice I could barely keep my eyes open. Now I know after my night shift to switch unto your channel and off to sweet rest .♥️
I started taking Berberine about 6 weeks ago. While I’m not technically overweight, I would like to lose a few lbs and have high blood pressure. I’m hoping to see some changes next time I go in for a physical.
Can you take Berberine without eating? I just purchased it today & want to start a fasting regimen where I either eat one or two times daily. The brand that I purchased recommends taking it 3X daily.
I added Berberine 3 times a day whilst on a 25 day fast. At the start of the fast I was losing fat but slowly. As soon as I took the berberine the fat loss improved dramatically and I felt just the most amazing energy. Probably because I was now tapping into my energy stores much more efficiently. No issues with low blood sugar, just felt amazing. Berberine will now be a supplement I use forever. Hope that helps.
I’m doing the same; 8/16 intermittent fasting and take (only) 1 500mg at my last meal, before starting my fast. It has help me tremendously reaching my 1st meal of the day with no hunger or problems. I don’t feel like I need to take it at every meal.
I was just watching a video of someone who ate carbs by themselves and monitored blood sugar then he ate the same carbs while taking ACV capsules that lowered blood sugar by about a third then he ate the same carbs with ACV plus berberine and it lowered blood sugar by half compared to just eating the carbs alone.
How about menopausal weight gain? I'm just gaining & gaining. Also switched thyroid(i dont have one) to Unithroid from Armour. I think I'm switching back. Thanks

I’ve been taking it for 2 years and haven’t lost any weight!

Dr. Aspires, I just heard about Berberine. Thanks for your video. I helped with a few questions I have. One I seem not to find is how long to take it? I've read only 500 mg a day not with every meal. So every meal? Really.
Will this help weight loss for pre menopausal women?
Thanks for your question! There are more pathways than one, but if Berberine improves insulin resistance, it will subsequently improve energy expenditure, and as a result may reduce body weight.
I tried but I got constipated
All I know you have such a kind face Dr and soothing voice I could barely keep my eyes open. Now I know after my night shift to switch unto your channel and off to sweet rest .♥️
Wishing utmost wellness your way! 😃
Thank you for reviewing this. Happy to get your insight.

I'm taking Aja Nutrition's. (500 MG Berberine, 100 MG Bitter melon fruit, and 25 MG Banaba Leaf.)
I started taking Berberine about 6 weeks ago. While I’m not technically overweight, I would like to lose a few lbs and have high blood pressure. I’m hoping to see some changes next time I go in for a physical.
Any updates? How was it for you? 😊
Can you take this with Apple Cider Vinegar capsules?
I was just watching a video of someone who ate carbs by themselves and monitored blood sugar then he ate the same carbs while taking ACV capsules that lowered blood sugar by about a third then he ate the same carbs with ACV plus berberine and it lowered blood sugar by half compared to just eating the carbs alone.
U are a BLESSING to us all 😊 thank U so much Dr!!
Thank you even more for being here and your support is appreciated. :)
If you take 500mg of Metformin for Insulin Resistance, can you also take Berberine?
He said in the video that you should consult with your Dr. Go back and watch from 6:00 on.
Not a good idea
This really worked for me exactly as he said.
May I ask how old you are? Because if you're young 20 to 35 this will probably work effectively with weight loss.

Thanks but already bought from iHerb but thanks for the great review.
why did Thorne cut the 500mg berberine down to 200mg? Did they find 500mg to be too strong?
The Thorne 200 link is broken, if you have an affiliate link I’d love to buy it through a link that helps you.

Any brand of Berberine works for lowering glucose. It can cause upset stomach so I take it WITH food. I’ve used it for many years, taking it with every meal. However, It has never made me lose weight. Sorry.I don’t recommend taking metformin with Berberine.
I never lost weight as well, even though on Keto and IF
@@jaxfl8945 I lose weight when I do Keto Carnivore. But Berberine definitely doesn’t help with weight loss. It’s amazing for lowering glucose. Best of luck.
Hi Dr., I have PCOS and started to take berberine, I noticed that my blood sugar level increased a lot. Should I stop taking berberine?? Thanks Doc!
