You’ve never see the thumbnail knot because it would nullify the swivel. The line would entrap both ends of the swivel and prevent them from doing the very thing a swivel is designed to do. Which, is why I watched it too unfortunately.
That's called a Palomar knot and it's one of only two knots that is untiable. The other being a Bimini knot. I've never seen someone double up the line for Palomar though that's very interesting. I will certainly have to try that one to see if there's any added benefit. What I do is pull about 12 in of line and then pinch it three or four inches from the tail and then make a loop and pass the eye end of the line through the loop three times to create my double line and then use that new eyelet of line to do the Palomar which I guess essentially is still double lining of Palomar. So never mind I take that back except well you did yours differently nonetheless. It's just a little bit cleaner. But I feel like having the added section of double line up from the hook also benefits with strength. My family has been saltwater fishing my entire life I'm not nearly as experiences my grandfather was and my brother is. They were truly about that life to an unimaginable degree. However when I was made first mate on his sport fishing yacht while my brother was the captain I finally came across a nighttime book and practice time each and every single knot in it. The Bimini knot is great when doing bill fishing and other big fish fishing with monofilament because it acts like a spring however because I absolutely suck Italian Bimini not I went with the Palomar instead because it's so simple lol.
It Really doesn't have to be a good tug. That will pull out with just a fairly light tug. I just tied it, and it FAILED IMMEDIATELY. I did it 3 times and got the SAME RESULTS each time. If he had taken the loop around the shank or made a loop THROUGH the loop, it wouldn't fail AS FAST but it still fails.
@ericvolker5646 While I disagree that it isn't just as good, I'd like to know your reasons why you think a simple clinch knot wouldn't be as good? I believe it is because its a commonly known knot that most people know very well, it's a strong enough knot using the swivel size in the video and, in my experience, has never failed me in 40+ years of fishing. Granted, in some instances, it won't be a string enough knot, but it is obvious in this video that those applications aren't being addressed.
@@scottcollette2755 There are already several videos demonstrating different knot strengths using different types of line at varying thicknesses using lab equipment like tensile strength testers and calibration certified scales. Not to mention knot tying tournaments that usually take place at fishing conventions. Standard clinch and improved clinch do usually test lower than other knots like the palomar (first knot in this video, some variation of it anyway) and snell (second knot). With some softer old school type mono line like Ande, clinch seems to test higher than normal. Would never use it with braided line for any application. I've been fishing for a long time too and can tell you there's not a single person tying a clinch knot fishing for 200 lb bluefin in San Diego and Mexico. You're either using a Jam, SD Jam, Double SD Jam, or Palomar. Ultimately though and to your point, tying a knot well and setting your drag appropriately will do you much more good than using the strongest knot in the world and running the drag too tight.
@jthomasomally absolutely in the scenario you described, fishing for larger and heavier fish a clinch/improved clinch is inferior. I was referring more towards freshwater where a 20-30 pound Northern Pike usually won't break a properly seated clinch/improved clinch knot. I know the knot itself is not as strong as many others, but for me, it is faster and easier for me to tie, and I have never had one break in the application I use it. Fishing saltwater or targeting larger fish I do use a stronger knot such as a Palomar. I'm just not as practiced with it. I appreciate your insight. Thank you for the discussion. I will be sure to practice tying them more often as its always important to keep improving.
@@scottcollette2755 Clinch knots are fine on thicker lines, but thin nylon or braid even the improved clich is not as strong, here the stress is across 2 wraps around the swivel, clinch all the way though as the go to hook knot, the first one here I would only use for braid to swivel
The first one is a version of the Palomar knot. A regular Palomar knot (without the twisting 4 or 5 times in the beginning) is stronger. The second one is some type of snelling. Don't know exactly what it's called.
If your fish are breaking off above the knot then it is not your knot’s fault. If the line is pulling through the knot then basically you need to increase friction around the hook eye and within the knot itself, that stops it pulling free. There are knot apps for mobile phones that are free.
When you think you’ve found a new knot, try a tension test. In my experience, about 90 percent fail under tension. No matter how pretty the knot… if it doesn’t approach matching the strength of the line used, it is not a good knot.
alterations of hangman noose. Not a good Knot. The binding portion is only the loop , and it is a single strand clasping the hook or jig. and often breaks. Just as hangman nooses would often break with fat people. If you want to keep what you hook. Dont use these knots
I started watching because of thumb nail shoot on video. I read the first comment about click bait and made this comment I will not visit your site or any other site that employs click bait. Won’t see ya!
A double improved cinch knot finished with a Palomar type loop and a snell knot with unnecessary effort. Nothing new, I have been doing the first for almost 50yrs.
umm .. how is the swivel supposed to do its thing with the beginning of the knot shown in the thumbnail? The swivel can't with the same line and loop going through bot rings. don't recommend channel status granted. I hate click bait.

I used the blood knot for decades then someone showed me the uni knot and it is the best knot I have ever seen. Strong and simple just like me.
Sooo...a polomar with a bunch of unnecessary wraps. Cool👍
Thanks you
Shut yo mouth
The “unnecessary wraps” absorb the impact of the fight when fishing Blue water.
@benlivingston6774 how does a knot absorb impact?
More wraps distribute stress, less stress on one single point,

my sentiments exactly.
Looks simple . Especially when you use yarn. Not easy at all when you're trying to tie 10 lb. super braid

First knot looks perfect, second one @ 2:05 looks like the line could go into the hooks gap on the eyelet! I have had hooks with a gap there.
Buy better hooks, there should never be a gap in the eye of the hook.
Gamakatsu, whats better@@teeanahera8949
That kink as it comes through the eye will weaken the line, you may as well tie the hook as if it was a spade end pattern and not use the eye at all

Any amount is too much. There's no need in all that twisting in the beginning of the first knot and it will weaken it, if it doesn't jam.

Glad your nebula has never failed. It’s your knots we worry about.
Why not just use a Palomar knot for every single application?
Why would you use a Palomar on a Rapala or a crappie jig when you could catch more fish using a loop knot?
So were tying nooses gotcha
Apparently you don't know what a noose is.
Awesome! Thank you!

I actually use the first knot on almost every hook it tie, I NEVER loose a hook(from time with that knot)
