- Ending you get if you choose to betray the emperor and become the absoluite.

Such an oversight to not let you keep your lover's mind instead of turning them into a thrall.... And to have Astarion both suggest you take over the world and then be all surprised and sound disapproving when you do exactly what he suggested. Shame, hope they fix his dialogue to make more sense

Astarion said previously "we" rule... and then he sees you take ctrl alone... he was afraid to be again a slave... or worst
Seems logic to me has the next choice after he is afraid his to respond that you're still with him.
Because they picked option 3 not option 2. 2 literally says together.
@@winspyy So would option 2 let you kill the Emperor but _not_ dominate your companions via the tadpoles? Because I was wondering if there is a way to save a non-ascended Astarion from burning in the sun by keeping the tadpole that protects him, by controlling the Netherbrain, without turning him into a thrall again?
Ironically, for the Ascended Vampire Astarion it would actually make most sense to either try and take control of the Netherbrain himself, or urge to _destroy_ the Netherbrain and all the tadpoles... in fact the second option would make more sense: Ascended Vampire Lord Astarion doesn't need the tadpole anymore to be immune to the sun, he doesn't need control of the tadpoles in people's brains to gain influence over Baldur's Gate, and he would be stupid is he allowed even the risk of anyone else controlling _him_ if the tadpole stayed in his brain.
For a non-ascended Astarion, it would make sense to desperately grasp at that straw, "What if I can keep the tadpole if _we_ destroy the Absolute but dominate the Netherbrain ourselves?". but if it always ends with him becoming a thrall again, this time to Tav, that would be heartbreaking.

I love this game so much but I'm fucking CACKLING at the fact that it takes a DC 30 check to convince Lae'zel to leave the zaith'isk before literally being blown up but it takes a DC 12 check to BECOME THE ABSOLUTE
I don’t think Lae’zel dies if you fail it but yeah it’s silly Lmao
@@makisbizarreadventure4669 She doesn't die, but permanently loses 2 int (the check then drops to more manageable 21, if you fail that, she loses 2 con, which hurts a lot more, as she is a frontline fighter)

I love that they have Minthara and Astarion talking about taking control over the nether brain for most of Act 3, only to have them freak out when you do it. And to add insult to injury, if you've romanced anyone, you get no choice in turning them into a thrall or not. What a poorly thought out Evil Ending to such a good game
Nah, it's a PERFECT ending if you romanced Ascended!Astarion. Dude thought he'd control his lover for eternity, well, how sweet is it to have the tables turned.
If you do this then you're evil and lost. Why would you suffer anyone having the ability to resist you after merging with the Elder Brain?
@@sunnyhill7919exactly! People seem to think ascended astarion is good/a good thing. Vampirism like that corrupts. He’s evil, and I would argue a Tav who does it is evil for allowing it. Reap what you sow lol

But Ascended Astarion getting what he deserves, especially when you can read him and know that the idea of dominating you is something he's looking forward to (as well as his abusive/controlling reaction when you try to break things off), is poetic.
Interesting. Minthara didn’t freak out on my tav. She said he was glorious and has never been more beautiful. Either way it works for her too because because it was her thirst for power that got her enthralled by the absolute cult and it was her thirst for power that got her enthralled in the end.
Ah... so you can betray your companions and love interest in this route and make them your thralls. Makes sense now why Astarion felt betrayed.

@@funnyblog100 He always had the short end of the stick, but in his evil route I find it hard to really care. So it's ironic the mc did it to him as now they can control him, versus his control as their master, lmao.
Astarion is the one who gaslights you into becoming his spawn and basically slave if he is Ascended, so it's his own fault.
To do that to a Spawn Astarion, though, yeah, would be a betrayal of highest caliber.
I feel like this is the best ending for Ascended Astarion. He was busy playing chess with MC and didn't realize that MC was playing the 4D version.

I love how Tav never really speaks in cutscenes and this is the only time they actually speak, implying us (the players) no longer have control over them, as their mind and soul is lost.

Ascended Astarion, having successfully trapped MC as his spawn: I'm finally the most powerful, nobody can ever hurt me again, nobody can ever subjugate me again, MY turn to rule.
Ascended Astarion when dominating the brain becomes an opportunity: Controlling the cult means MOAR POWER, cool, do it, girl, you'll control the brain, and I'll control you! [Wisdom check: Fail]
Ascended Astarion, when killing the Emperor means that there is no protection against the tadpole-controlling power anymore, and he is NOT the one controlling the brain: Wait... wait... abort, abort mission, this is NOT according to plan!
Ascended Astarion, upon realizing that he is once again a slave of a powerful, cruel master that can control his every step: I fucked up.
The big difference between Illithid Thralls and Vampire Spawns is that Thralls do not keep their old personalities or minds, whereas Spawn do, but are shackled to the Vampire Lord.
To quote from Volo's Guide to Monsters
Using a low-power version of its Mind Blast ability, the mind flayer bombards the victim with energy that washes through its synapses like acid, clearing away its former personality and leaving it a partially empty shell. This step takes 24 hours. Over the next 48 hours, the illithids rebuild the victim's memories and personality, and the victim gains the skills and talents it needs to perform its intended function.
@@Ariescz actually debatable. Thralls keep as much personality as their masters allow them, at least in the books. Even Emperor, when controlling the Duchess, allowed her old personality to remain and just assumed direct control when he wanted. Masters CAN completely erase the old personality, if they want to, but they don't HAVE to.
I feel like this is the ending Ascended Astarion deserves.

i think the narrator is not the character, the voices are different. its like the narrator is telling your story to some kids, i also believe that the character only line is that final one, which sadly is lip desync on female characters :(@@AleksandrStrizhevskiy
@@ravell2854 Yes there is a narrator. The woman. But your character says several lines thought the game. You can select a character voice. They say things like "my boots have seen everything", "is that blood? Nevermind", "I have a lot on my mind, and well...in it".
I would really liked it if your character could speak during the cutscenes or when talking to NPCs. I heard that the developers wanted to do that, but they didn't because of some roleplay reasons. I don't understand why anyone would want that, but putting that aside, your character's first time talking in that moment is so great.
@@gromhellscream5158 I prefer the way they do things in games like Mass Effect. If I choose a character voice, I want to see the character speaking in cutscenes and conversations. I thought it was weird when first playing BG3.

Astarion encouraging it and then being confused is such weird writing. I guess he’s realizing you’re gonna control him too, but that is not made clear so it just feels like an oversight.

You have to admit, after an entire game of Tav wincing at their tadpole's influence, 2:09 is pretty badass

I actually like this as the evil ending that you can choose to have.
There is a reason Chaotic, Neutral and Lawful Evil are choices you have for your placement in the actual real life table top games. You get an enormous amount of power if you succeed, but at the expense of your soul and those around you.
It’s your choice. Characters thinking they like the choices only to regret them makes sense too. You thought helping Astarion ascend would be a good choice, but it comes at the expense of his soul, just as this comes at the expense of yours.
It’s a choice that says, “Okay. You won and got power, but are you willing to pay the cost?”
It is pretty in theme with the game's moral system. You CAN obtain endless wealth and riches, you just have to be willing to steal from others for it. You CAN gain legendary items and powers, but you'll have to break ethics. (The Drow in Moonrise, the Djinni at the circus.)
So yeah, you CAN be all powerful, but somewhere along the way you'll have to give up something too- and in BG3's case it's your own moral compass and humanity.
I was playing a good character but I really wanted to see the evil ending, so I stabbed the emperor and it was really messed up. Imagine a character who always helped everyone and was never rude to anyone but ultimately betrays everyone. I wish the evil ending was longer tho.
I'm really playing the game going from true neutral in Act 1 to Neutral Evil in Acts 2 & 3. I think I got the most out of what I wanted to experience in the game, so be a long while before I replay it.

I like to roleplay that my player character started off as a good guy that gets corrupted by all the shit he see's through the game like discrimination and becoming half ilithid just to keep his friends safe to then becoming the Absolute for the sake of making a better world

i think this is a good insight into the real power of netherbrain. it just makes sense it took over and turned everyone into thralls. emperor too, possibly.

Honestly the evil playthrough is so bad. It feels empty and like there was no thought put into it. Astarion throughout the entire game is like "we should take control of the absolute" and when you do it he just has a generic "what are you doing?!" response.
Because... the mc made them thralls in the process by taking over the brain *solo.* So big bad vampire Lord Astarion became a slave again. They went the most evil route solo. So lmao. He got royally cucked. Hence, your companions brainwashed cheers from your mc's enjoyment.
Tbf it probably was just an after thought, they have a lot of bad options that obviously nobody would really pick unless they're doing a secondary run or deliberately trying to make a chaotic run
@@Call-me-Creeds Exactly. Astarions whole thing is being free and having power. Although, I do agree that as perfect as the rest of the game is, the endings feel super rushed.
@paawan3764 yeah... I still enjoy the endings... just wish they flushed them out more... I'm almost done with act 3 and already see the possible endings... and I felt like I barely started it... :/ which I literally started this day on Act 3, so umm... is it shorter chapter or the companion quests just smaller/done?
I didnt eaven started evil path play, and thats the problem.... The game fives you 0 sensible ways to join the absolute... Any non-brainwashed character (and i dint like playing 2 inteligence chars, eaven if it was possible) will never at any point joined the cult in the way the game is setup ....
Betraying the emperor is heartbreaking, he truly was your unconditional ally. But then the epic final line is so ecstatic that I can’t help but think “Ye, fck the squid guy”

Is this ending not exclusive to the Dark Urge? So far I’ve only seen/heard ‘In Baal’s name’ from people who upload this scene, so I thought this was DU exclusive, but here the MC says ‘in my name’.
If you pick this ending on the DU route and become the chosen of Bhaal, your character will say "In Bhaal's name".
I was dark urge but rejected baal. My guy said in my name as well.
No, you can do it with plain Tav, it's just that lots of people choose DU for an evil playthrough

When i did this ending i played tiefling oathbreaker paladin. And since it was my 4th run, i intended to keep all the power to myself. I exiled Astarion in Act1 and killed Cazzador before he became ascended. btw, Cazzador says thank you for leting him capture Astarion. For me this I consider the best Ending.
I thought it was only my human paladin the lip sync failure but it seems it affects any race as long as is a girl. It kills the mood when you say the last "in my name" but the mouth is closed already mid phrase.... seriously kills the inmersion :(

They need to rework this evil ending it is in my opinion the worst part about this game.
I had Orpheus become illithid instead and (Ascended) Astarion encouraged me to betray him and said the world could be ours. But he still became a thrall :(

Alas, no. Guess he is too pissed at ending up a slave again, so MC has to control him too much until he gets used to being a thrall to have any romantic convos.
