- Since 1 May, protests organised by pro-Palestinian activist network, Palestine Action, have taken place in Leicester outside a weapons factory called UAV Engines, that is a supplier for Israeli arms company Elbit Systems.
Elbit Systems is known primarily for its military drones, which have been used repeatedly in Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip. It also produces components for the illegal separation wall in the occupied West Bank, artillery, and optical, targeting and navigation components.
Elbit announced that it would vacate the Elbit Ferranti factory in Oldham, England in 2022, after an 18-month protest campaign by Palestine Action. Elbit insists the sale was part of a restructuring strategy in the United Kingdom.
