  • I thought having a Russian made watch would be cool. It turns out that they are fairly inexpensive. They won’t match the quality of some swiss watches, but for the money, I think they are worth the price. And they are way cool.
In this video I provide a short history of Vostok watches and provide an overview of my Vostok Komandirskie Model: 020706.

The Komandirskie watch is actually the perfect beater watch. Because the movement runs at a slow rate, it has minimal wear in terms of moving parts. The recommended service interval is 10 years!!! Not only that, examples of both Komandirskie and Amphibia Vostok watches have been found to be running perfectly well after 40/50 years without a service. I can think of no watch in the world that can compare when it comes to being a beater watch. These watches are the tanks of the watch world. They take an absolute beating and keep on running 💪. Some of the Komandirskie's differ in terms of depth, rating, your watch might be based off of the Amphibia design. You'd need a watch maker to take the back off and view the gasket as much as anything else. Certainly the Vostok Amphibia blows most dive watches out if the water - and have been show to only start failing at around 700 meters depth. The plexi crystal is of a special thickness and actually works with the water pressure not against it, by sinking further into the case to create a tighter seal at greater depth and the gasket has a special design so as to remain undamaged for a greater number of dives. As a certified 200 meter watch, your Komandirskie might be based on the Amphibia case and spec.
As for the plexi - any scratches can be buffed out with polywatch and these watches also come with an endless supply of cheap parts and easy cheap service. The use of plexi is what allows the design to achieve the water depth rating. Also it is what allowed the Vostok Amphibia to be a certified space watch and be worn by cosmonauts. Don't forget the Omega Speedmaster man on the moon watch is also a plexi glass watch.
    PERFECT beater watch.
IF any watch in the world is a superior beater watch, other than its sybling the Amphibia - I'd love to hear the case/argument for whatever that watch is. I don't think such a watch exists.

    • @adventureswithtime
      @adventureswithtime  4 роки тому +1

You certainly love your Vostoks. But I agree, it is a great beater watch.

@@adventureswithtime - It's just opinion in any case and how I found things. Great video in any case, we all bump into different aspects and learn different things at different points. I think we can all learn a thing or two from the next guy, as I myself pick up things from your videos and other people's.
I own about 5/6 different Vostoks, a similar number of Seiko watches. I own and like multiple G-Shocks, Hamiltons and my absolutelite favourites are my Stowa's - a 36mm A type and a 40mm B type, both hand wound. I'm stupid/mad about watches in general lol, but I especially love military watches, pilots, field watches etc.
I think all watch collectors are a little bit mad. In a world where the most accurate time is on your phone we don't just buy one thing that technically isn't needed, we lust after these objects because of the colour of their dial, their history or movement. We're quite mad hehe. Best to ya!
Anyway, carry on making great vids and enjoying your own collecting.

    Great video!
Just a couple of points, but they ARE important: The case-back and the bezel.
The case-back isn't a screw-down type, but is instead is press-secured to a large flat gasket in the case using a locking-ring. This design is arguably far superior to a standard screw-down case-back, which applies shearing-forces to a small, more fragile 'o'-ring style gasket.
The bezel. The bi-directional bezel feels flimsy and a bit disconcerting, however it again is a quirky-but-clever design. At depths below 10 feet the distortion of the crystal 'locks' the bezel, preventing movement in ANY direction. Arguably this is a better design than a traditional 60 or 120 click unidirectional bezel, which can still be accidentally moved in one direction underwater.
The watch feels cheap, but many of the things that make it feel so (slow beat-rate, lucite crystal, bezel, decoupled stem, etc...) are actually its hidden strengths and entirely intentional in design.

A few days ago I received my second Vostok watch in the mail and also a glass caseback that I plan on putting on the watch. This time it's a Vostok Komandirskie, model #560541and, honestly I can't stop looking at it. I also ordered a silicone strap to replace the cheap metal bracelet it came with. These are definetely interesting wrist watches, plus I like the history behind them!

The editing did put a smile on my face! :D Loved the Star Trek scene. I have the same model like yours, and after 1 year it is holding up really well. Its tough as nails, and the acrylic crystal isn't supposed to be scratch proof, but more shock proof, because it doesn't shatter as fast as sapphire does on impact. The water resistance is amazing. Someone also tested it as you probably have heard to around 500-800m in a pressure chamber until it burst, so yeah it should definitely be fine for my swimming.

Just letting you know that you can buy Vostok watches cheaper at komandirskie.com. The page is in Russian, but you can translate the webpage with Google and it's not difficult to place an order. I bought the model shown in this video some days ago for 3700 rubles, postage included, which are about 52 euro, so there's a huge difference in price. I haven't received the watch yet (I ordered it 3 days ago and I think it will take about 3 weeks to get here), but people in forums say you can trust that website.
I guess Vostoks are cheaper in this webpage because it seems to be oriented to Russian market + paying in rubles makes it even cheaper because of the money exchange.

I would not recommend this watch. I bought one of the red automatic Komandirskie watches without the date function and the movement stopped less than one month after I bought it. No shaking or movement would get it to restart and I had been very gentle with it. The seller was good and gave me a full refund including shipping and I liked the style of the watch so much I bought a replacement figuring I just got a bad apple. The next one lasted 4 months and then the movement just stopped again, and again I had been very gentle with it. Fortunately I bought an extended warranty with it so I will get a refund but I got 2 lemons. The style is great, it is a very cool looking watch and the price is good and when it works it keeps time accurately but quality control is obviously poor. Based on my experience I would not recommend this brand.

When I first got the watch, because it felt so flimsy, I didn't want to trust the water resistance rating. If you remember in my video, I had trouble getting the crown back in to first position. I wasn't sure that the crown would properly seal. Now that I've had the watch for some time, I'm more willing to trust that the crown will seal. Hope that explains my statement in the video.

I don't mind the mineral crystal. If it had Sapphire, it would be much more expensive.

I don't know about you all.. but I saw a solid steel not folded steel bracelet.. Trust me.. I have my experience with adjusting a cheap vostok folded steel bracelet.. I needed a hammer and I destroyed a couple tools.
This watch was literally designed to be more water resistant the deeper you go.
    Very bad review.
