    Amidst a sea of Netflix dystopian mediocrity - an enjoyable, heartwarming movie with faith in humanity. An education, too - I thought Harold Lloyd only made silent films. Thanks for this - a real gem.

    Having spent plenty time in China I can relate to some of this story and philosophy. The overt racism was harsh, abrasive, but true to the times (and hasn't changed much IMHO). I've always been a BIG fan of Harold Lloyd and thought I'd seen all his movies (this one by his own production company) but missed this somehow. And I wouldn't have appreciated it as much if I hadn't spent all those years in China. Poignant look at the politics of an American city in the 1930's. 💖 🇨🇦

      Lol. The chinese are pretty racist, and cucknadian politics are too corrupt and fascistic to be throwing shade at others. And btw, that's an accurate representation of an American city, but one run by socialists, both in the 30s and the present...

    • @FloridaMugwump
      @FloridaMugwump Рік тому

      Overt racism? Yes, from the BAD people. The Chinese are shown as the good guys and the Americans as the bad guys. The very fact that the fillm was made proves that most Americans at this time viewed racism as a social evil

      @@Tempe1962 Doesn't look like it, looking closely I think that is real skin. The Hays code was technically in effect at this point but this was the year it was first strictly enforced because it's the Year Tarzan and his Mate came out. There were scenes in that where, well let's just say you could see all of Jane. And that movie was pretty much the last straw and they started enforcing the Hays code strictly, this movie obviously came out right before that.

      Joseph Finnegan, how sophisticated many movies were before the second big war, WWII. Suggests something about the audiences too.
      Now we have people so blinded by some sort of derangement syndrome that they do not perceive the blatant attempts at worldwide power grabs and have supported destroying the world in hopes of ousting one guy. Just recently the WHO special envoy remarked that measures taken are doubling world poverty and with it child hunger. Such consequences do not concern the wannabe dictators, narcissistic personalities with an insatiable desire for control, or the minions of money power.

The problem is the number of this type of "Hero Missionary" is getting less & less in America, on the contrary corrupted high official as "Commissioner- Moriarty" is on the rise. Most of the public representatives are just pet doggies of the super-rich business magnets.
    The common people are just fooled to understand that America is a heaven, it is a matter of great shame that the common people of America have forgot John Adams, Jefferson, Lincoln and other such great people who once lead America.
    This type of movies are just jewels, they are just like good books which injects knowledge of right and wrong.

    What a wonderful comedy.
    Oh my gosh, it starts with Biden vs that other guy, then the chosen weak candidate dies. Wondering about someone’s health?
    Easily identify with Mr. Cobb, have been lost among politicians too.
    Also ancestors were missionaries in Asia, family has ability with languages, including Asian.

      Calvin Girvin, yes, you do know they have several languages in Asia, they are often referred to as Asian languages, Chinese being one.

    I've never seen this one before. There's some sharp social and political satire. I can pass on this one, though. It's at least half an hour too long, as well.

    If those signs said instead “BIDEN FROM CHINA!” It would have been prophetic!

    Really enjoyed the story...it was a great piece of theatre...but the language referring to Black and Chinese ethnicity was a blaring jolt...and the raw face of uneducated societies across the World....America wasn't the first to require slaves for their profit...the Arabs have been trading humans since the times of Aladin!😝

    • @internetcensure5849
      @internetcensure5849 Рік тому

      Before Arabs, Romans and others were trading humans as well. But, those who made Black slavery big business of massive exploitation were Western Europeans: Portuguese, English, Spanish, and Dutch.

    When they round up the criminals ... at 1:20:05, what's the deal with busting in on the 'village people" at the 'men's athletic club'? How crazy that immorality was treated by the police as a crime. Today, that sort of behavior is awarded with gov jobs and presidential bids.

    Meh, it's OK. That from A Harold Lloyd fan. The storyline is very thin and predictable. Not his best sound picture. In terms of dealing with corrupt politics, it's not exactly Citizen Kane.

    • @jmason2838
      @jmason2838 3 роки тому +2

      All is just my humble opinion ... Guess what : it's not supposed to be 'Citizen Kane' ... This is Harold Lloyd .🙄.. NOT Orson Welles .🤨.. although , if he had ditched those glasses , he would have been a huge success in dramatic roles as well .💓.. A Beautiful Soul 💎💢💎 and a Beautiful Man🕴️😍 ...looks that rival Cary Grant...👍👍
