I was on one patrol where someone did not get back to the ship in time at a port call. We got underway and were about 100 yards from the pier when we saw one of the non-rates running down the pier waving their arms. We dropped the small boat and sent it back to the pier to pick them up. The got masted a couple of days later for missing movement.

Military Journeymen one last question. Is there any benefit to volunteering to be company petty officer? I’ve heard conflicting advice regarding that. Is there any benefit?

Any cutter will have a port call, usually the larger 270’ and bigger are going to foreign port calls.

Do you need a passport to get off on a port call ?
No passport is needed when on a port call. Military ID is all that is required.
