  • In this video, I interview my friend where she explains what it was like reporting to a 270' Coast Guard Medium Endurance Cutter out of Basic training, the Harriet Lane, and what type of qualifications she was expected to get.

Time saving tip: set your playback speed to 1.5x
    It's fast, and still understandable.

IT/TT/TC.. I have to wonder how merging all these rates works out during the service wide exam. I'm assuming on a 270 the IT's replaced the TT's and whatever rate (ET/TC/TT) who were the sysmgr's on the boat are now done by the IT?

Since she was on the Harriet Lane for only 9 months did she leave for "A" School? Then what is her rate?

Hmm, 2 years later and no one responded. Sounds like she reported TAD to the 270 which is odd since her 270 was U/W. Normally, you hang out at the local CG unit, then when your ship pulls in, you get flown to your ship. Hard to think she got stuck on the HL for 9 months TAD, but heading off the "A" school wouldn't be unheard of.

What’s the difference between engineering and deck? Can you pick which one you do? Thanks for all your help!

Pick your poison, GREESE or PAINT. Rather you're a bilge rat or a deck ape, as a non-rate, you are going to get pretty dirty at times. But you don't find FA/FN's in the scullery. At least on the 2 210's I was on, engineers were always in the main space.

Served on two 270’s in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Don’t eat breakfast the morning of your first patrol. Most likely you’re going to be in the head up chucking it shortly after getting underway!🤮
