No, what you pay for is a professional to give you direct 1 on 1 input on your shooting stance as it relates to you based on your comfort level and experience. This is good information, but I feel like only people who are already experienced shooters can take any value away from this. Shooting, stance and grip entirely depends on the shooter, their experience and what feels comfortable to them. What the poet thinks is the best stance for him, or in general, might not be the best for you. Every person's body is different, and speaking from experience, when the rounds start flying, A) you don't think about stance/grip and B) Even if you are, rarely are you able to put yourself in the "best" stance/position for numerous other reasons. Instinct/Point training and practice are still 100x more useful than standing in front of a full length mirror for 20 minutes practicing your "tacti-cool" stance. Id rather practice AA hits while double tapping from the hip with tenth splits.
@@TheeGlocktopus I agree with a lot of what you say but when he preaches about his stance it is really just an athletic stance. Anyone who has ever really watched or played sports can do one. War is a horrible. I was born during Vietnam, grew up in the 70's and 80's, Grenada would have been my "War" so I have little personal perspective on the subject, only what I've read, watched and studied. Veterans I see today, although 20 years or more my junior, impress me with their knowledge, strength, commitment and awareness. Most do not seem like the damaged fathers and uncles I knew growing up who had fought in WWII, Korea or Vietnam: those lonely, distant men, many who seemed to have never come home. It is encouraging to see a man using his strength and knowledge to train others. Thank you to anyone who has served, and for making this informative video. I have several takeaways I'll attempt at the range today in my casual comfort, thankful that I never had to spend 6+ hours clearing a city. Peace.
The AR-15 is a just a riffle, and that is it. Riffles have been around long before Vietnam,Grenada. I dont get your whole war thing, as it pertains to this weapon!
A very well written comment Daniel, and all too true. The increasing awareness of mental stress and near obliteration of the mind in warfare, along with the changes from a very mass scale, conventional style of warfare to today's I think has some possitive affects, but there are still many who see more than the mind ever should. Not sure where the "AR-15" response came from. Love the rifle, but that response had nothing to do with your comment, and everything to do with John's comment about clearing for hours, and the helpful, instructive information on the video, that was yes about handling an ar-15 rifle, but not the subject of the comment.

It took about 1000 rounds (civilian no training) to find solid points of contact and balanced rifle grip to help mitigate recoil enough to come back to target. As I am always learning thank you for your knowledge.
While this is video is 16 months old I found it to be very helpful. I hadn't realized so many things about the stance to get a good sight picture so that the gun is stable, on target and returns to target after firing. I was doing it all wrong, thinking old school rifle stance and can see how impractical that is for an AR. I've determined that before I go shooting again I have to practice 10,000x repetitions "presenting" in the proper form so that the gun comes up in the right place automatically without thinking so it is ready for immediate target acquisition. At this moment the stance and position of the rifle feels foreign, but after a few dozen times of just lifting the rifle into position and getting the sight in center view I'm starting to feel when I'm doing it wrong. I plan on hitting the range some time this week and will then incorporate firing into my new routine. Thanks for the video. Again, most helpful.
I just put a Miculek brake on my AR. My rifle is actually dipping down now, because I used to have to fight the muzzle rise, before installing the awesome brake. Thanks to you, I now know how to correct this mistake in technique. I had obviously got into a habit of being too tight on the gun. Your material is awesome, brother. Keep it coming.
This is such a good vid. I actually scrolled past several times thinking, "Pfft, I have a dozen rifles..." I couldn't resist watching the most beautiful man in the industry though, and am genuinly glad I didn't. I'm embarrassed at how little I actually know in comparison to professional. Idk how Lovell isn't the biggest name in the industry because the quality of his content is second to none. I think I have a mancrush.
I saw this video pop up on my list a few days ago..... but i resisted watching it as i am an old range official, and i did 3 combat tours. my job entailed making sure Marines could put rounds into center mass at 200,300 and 500 yards. I did this 48 weeks out of the year. very few people in this world have pulled the buttstock of a M-16A2 into their shoulder more than i have,, very few people have sent more rounds down range OR at actual enemy targets than i have. your instruction was pretty good, but ,i dont know if training has changed since I was in.. but i always was taught, AND taught my Marines that the off hand elbow was to be tucked in and braced against the rib cage. forming a tight stable platform for the rifle. Once again, i am NOT criticizing your methods... i am just stating the one obvious difference i saw in your and my stance.
Your vids have been very informative, especially after acquiring my first AR Pistol. They've definitely assisted in informing both the legality of a "brace" use and muzzle length under 16in with a buttstock! Thank you!
very good to know. as a first time AR daddy, ive been told a lot of various contradicting 'must do's and never a good 'why'.... just the 'cause its the best'. having a relaxed but controlled hold and stance so you can maintain for longer periods, keep control, fall back into the correct position after each shot without too much fighting... that seems most important. i will have to start practicing to find and keep that method.
@casa JB Ja moin, Meister! Er hat nur "schön" falsch geschrieben. "Weiter machen, ihr beide" ist völlig korrekt, da es 2. Pers. Plural Imperativ ist. Für dein "macht" müsste man den Satz umstellen: "Macht weiter, ihr beide."
Just like learning to drive...too many things to handle at first...then, no problem bro, as it becomes second nature after practicing a lot... Thanks John...
Great video! You are spot on with stance and technique. When I was in training for law enforcement, your methods were what our instructors taught. I now have my own AR, and enjoy practicing. If someone has never done any target shooting, you are missing out on a lot of fun!
So the diagnostic bit at the end was probably the most helpful bit of this video for me. My stance is generally pretty okay, but I don’t always get enough lean in to flatten things out properly, and when I was shooting last I noticed that the dot was moving a ton and then coming back in, which was slowing down my cadence of fire. Something to focus on, for sure.
Ah Kennesaw Georgia, where residents are legally required to own a firearm and the crime rate is far below national average. I heard people sleep well there!
I'm right handed, but left eye dominant... Leads to all kinds of crazy adjustments to run an AR. Love that brass down the shirt. Great instruction and coaching 👍
I took your rifle 2 class last November. If this FREE video had been in that class I would have gladly paid an extra one hundred dollars for the hands-on training. Great tips in such a short amount of time.
Hi John! My name is Gustavo and I’m from Brazil (such a dangerous country), so could you please make a video suggesting a plan in case of a home invasion? Thanks for yours attention!
Those are the exact same points I teach except when I shoulder my AR in the pocket, I use a stretch technique instead of a push pull. It works perfect for me. Awesome video bro!
When I was young kids cut other folks lawn it wa a kid job not an adult business. Anyway I grew up cleaning gun collections and loading ammo. Needless to say I have used many firearms through the years. I been checking out a bunch of your videos even the beginner. This one (How to use your AR) wow this is a new wold for me Lots of good stuff, Thank you for the knowledge transfer sessions.
The way you show keeping the fore-grip arm down for long term stability is the way I was taught to hold it when I took riflery in college. In fact, we were taught to keep the left elbow rigid against the body.
Over 13 minutes standing there with the rifle in front of Eddie... "I'm seeing a little more shake than I like." Eddie "Really John, this is bothering you?"
John, these technique videos are very helpful and a solid foundation is needed for everyone. With that, one thing I can’t find much on, but believe is foundational, is safety selector manipulation. If you could even touch on, in one of your videos, the timing of switching from fire to safe and vice versa it would make training safer for everyone. Since a lot of pistols don’t have that feature it seems to be a habit that takes time to form with a rifle. Thank you for your service and contribution to training safe effective gun owners. God bless.
First, Thank you for your service! Their are people that appreciate what you did for us Americans at home. I just re-positioned everything on my rife. This is so much better the way i had it set up.
I have been shooting for many years and still learned some things. Thinking back it was over 47 years ago that I first fired an M16. My Brother-inlaw and several of his buddies from the National Guard brought an M16 and full can of match grade ammunition for my 13th birthday. We shot over 700 rounds that day. I had a terrible ringing in my ears for several days. Way back then we only used cotton for ear plugs. Always wear ear and eye protection when shooting.
You should've lifted the shirt and shown completely unharmed cardboard target underneath to complete the gag :P "Buy now! The shirt that auto circumcises the enemy bullets!"
Just spent an hour presenting and readjusting as needed, each time spending a minute on the sight after readjusting. I'll be able to do this again with about a month of recovery ;) Kidding but it was tiring. I'll keep this up and increase the time on sight till I don't feel like such a wimp any more. This was great non-ammo practice. We don't have to spend money to get our fundamentals better.
Great video, I learned a few new techniques for my next range day. I fire a rifle right-handed but am left eye dominant. If I am using a red dot or holographic sight and keep both eyes open, I see two images, upper left and lower right with the actual point of impact somewhere in the middle. Too bad because both eyes open not only enhances your field of view but helps keep the muscles (the orbicularis oculi) of your firing side eye from getting tired.
@serpent645-Thanks for your comment. I am right handed and left eye dominant, makes everything harder. Appreciate your comment about the oculi, every little bit helps.
I thumbed down cause I always learn train how you fight. This guy gets a zero for practical. Can John shoot target at night? While enemy shooting back..
John Brown Can you? Lol John did this professionally, as he mentioned, in the Rangers. Most guys on here that are arguing tactics and training may be infantry which is just a different ballgame.

In that add, those rounds obviously took a `Land Nav' course, as they know to box around an obstacle. Very cool. Circumnavigating the wearer of the garment,, brilliant. The Constitutionalist RTO Definitely
If you're trying to break the pewtubers universe yes they should.
Garand is the eldest son. Travis is daddy.
I think they need to bullet test garand thumbs flannel the way they tested WP T-shirt’s to see if they are as bullet proof.
No cuz the comment section on @Garland Thumb vids is infested with unstable individuals
Outstanding, clear and comprehensive as it gets. The other secrete is....'range time' in order to establish your groove. Thanks!
Happy Veteran's Day! To all the veterans out there, thanks for your service! 🇺🇸
This has been one of the most informative shooting videos I’ve seen in some time! I love how you teach the why and how John. Keep up the great work!
Great video. He knew better than to challenge an Army Ranger. Respect to all of our Military branches but my hats off to the RANGERS
My son is an Airborne Ranger Scout. I love watching your videos and learning from him as well.
Your vids have been very informative, especially after acquiring my first AR Pistol. They've definitely assisted in informing both the legality of a "brace" use and muzzle length under 16in with a buttstock! Thank you!
very good to know. as a first time AR daddy, ive been told a lot of various contradicting 'must do's and never a good 'why'.... just the 'cause its the best'. having a relaxed but controlled hold and stance so you can maintain for longer periods, keep control, fall back into the correct position after each shot without too much fighting... that seems most important. i will have to start practicing to find and keep that method.
that is some fine German engineering brilliance 🤣 shön weiter machen ihr beide
русский утвержден +1 жизни
@casa JB machen is correct, he is talking to 2 people
@casa JB wow people get offended quickly. German is my first language, if you don't like football don't watch it I don't care
@casa JB Du hast ja vielleicht Probleme... Chill mal ein bisschen. "Schön weiter machen" oder "Macht weiter", so einfach...
@casa JB Ja moin, Meister! Er hat nur "schön" falsch geschrieben.
"Weiter machen, ihr beide" ist völlig korrekt, da es 2. Pers. Plural Imperativ ist. Für dein "macht" müsste man den Satz umstellen: "Macht weiter, ihr beide."
Ive been shooting for nearly 20 years, and this guy still had information that was useful! Amazing, thank you so much!
I tried an AR-15 for the first time yesterday. Definitely fun!
Glad you enjoyed it, hope you dive in to guns more.
Your a man now!!!!! Welcome
It's hard to argue against 30 rounds of felon repellent in a compact easily controlled package. Please get good training and have more fun.
If you think that's because everyone owns a gun, I don't know what to do for you.
What’s the demographic break down?

Spring Bloom Ostrich much? Of course that is a big part of the reduction. So sad that you don't know that.
I'm right handed, but left eye dominant... Leads to all kinds of crazy adjustments to run an AR. Love that brass down the shirt. Great instruction and coaching 👍
For me this stuff is great to see. Sometimes it good to be reminded of what is overlooked a lot of time. Thanks for the lessons John.
All great points, especially the stance. Most people don't understand that. So many nuances, to me shooting is finesse.
Awesome man. About to go shoot my new AR. Very helpful. Thanks!
Those are the exact same points I teach except when I shoulder my AR in the pocket, I use a stretch technique instead of a push pull. It works perfect for me. Awesome video bro!
As a german, it sounds more like a czech english accent :D
Badenia, good ear! In the original video with these guys he says he's from the German Spetsnaz Unit. So it's obviously a very Euro-Integrated accent.
Liberate Germanistan. Please.
I concur
When I was young kids cut other folks lawn it wa a kid job not an adult business. Anyway I grew up cleaning gun collections and loading ammo. Needless to say I have used many firearms through the years. I been checking out a bunch of your videos even the beginner. This one (How to use your AR) wow this is a new wold for me Lots of good stuff, Thank you for the knowledge transfer sessions.
John thank you for what you do,im pretty green with all gun stuff but im learning. Stay strong and God bless, hope i meet you in the future brother.
The way you show keeping the fore-grip arm down for long term stability is the way I was taught to hold it when I took riflery in college. In fact, we were taught to keep the left elbow rigid against the body.
'Buttstock'
ATF already knows your location.
Rip puppers
Spring Bloom fuck the atf. Background checks are anti 2A, permjts and licenses are anti 2A.
@@Alejo__
In America, ATF fuck you.
Spring Bloom ... No... he actually lives in a free state, ATF would never go after him there.

I think you might be woefully misinformed about a couple of things.
I tried the bullet proof shirt out and it actually works!! No one sees it coming. Thank you!
Over 13 minutes standing there with the rifle in front of Eddie...
"I'm seeing a little more shake than I like."
Eddie "Really John, this is bothering you?"
This is without a doubt one of the most informative and easy to understand videos I have ever watched. Thank you!
God bless.
Wild to find out I had no idea how to hold my rifle. Thank you lol. Very informative
Man I've come to love your channel. You have a great mindset and serious and funny at the same time
GOOD GUY HELPING A FELLOW GOOD GUY. LOVE IT. THANKS FOR THE REVIEW YOU TWO.
Man. Ordered the bullet proof shirt right away. Can't wait to test it. Thanks for the recommendation John ! ^^
First, Thank you for your service! Their are people that appreciate what you did for us Americans at home. I just re-positioned everything on my rife. This is so much better the way i had it set up.
Great instruction. One can only HOPE some of the interweb RAMBO squad watch and learn.
This was awesome!!! This is the best and most thorough advice I've seen on proper shooting form.
Love all your videos John!! Leaving in a few to go pick up my first AR15 from the FFL so this video is perfect timing for me 👍🏼
Congrats! Have fun brother, enjoy it!
I love how he shows the mechanics of the AR-15. This guy is very smart!!
As always just a great instructor. Thank you for always breaking it down to easily remembered basics
I'll be able to do this again with about a month of recovery ;)
Kidding but it was tiring. I'll keep this up and increase the time on sight till I don't feel like such a wimp any more.
This was great non-ammo practice. We don't have to spend money to get our fundamentals better.
I loved that intro. Had me laughing so hard. You should start everything that way. Good job guys.
The intro the best I have seen in a long time!!! Had me rolling for at least ten minutes.
"uhh my collar bone gets lost in a sheet of muscle" 9:36 😂😂😂
Definitely a hidden dad joke
2:45 Lovell is taller than someone! Yay for that!
I have that same canvas wagon from Walmart. I've used it for years, to haul groceries, from the vehicle, to the porch. It's held up great!!! lol
I love the Marine joke at the end 😂😍
Thank you!!! As someone who just purchased their first AR and there sadly isn’t any trainers around, I covet videos like this.
We all know that the 3 thumbs down on this video are by former Marines because of John's comment at the end of the video! 😂😂😂
I thumbed down cause I always learn train how you fight. This guy gets a zero for practical. Can John shoot target at night? While enemy shooting back..
John Brown lol? Was that a troll?
@@Alejo__ No, i'm not a big fan of this guy. I watch to learn what you guys learning.
John Brown Can you? Lol John did this professionally, as he mentioned, in the Rangers. Most guys on here that are arguing tactics and training may be infantry which is just a different ballgame.
@@m-at-the-w142 I set up Compound bow to shoot at night. I might hit target. He did what professionally? Go door to door with billions of dollars in backup shooting legally armed citizens that were protecting their home and family. I take a lot of pride knowing American military hasn't had an enemy since WW2 and Civil War. When China Rangers kick in your door and kill your family for politics then I will laugh and support them as professionals.
This is one of the finest videos on how to shoot an AR I have ever seen!
3:59 - God, he called it a buttstock, the ATF is gonna mess up your day, John.
Daniel Hesse he said Buttstock not BUMPstock foo
Commenting prior to training class with John. Completing my homework. 😉
That extended foregrip hasn't reached the PD training ( at least not ours anyways ) Might try it at the next in service provided I don't get yelled at :-)
In that add, those rounds obviously took a `Land Nav' course, as they know to box around an obstacle. Very cool. Circumnavigating the wearer of the garment,, brilliant. The fabric isn't bullet proof, it just downloads the needed navigational knowledge to the projectile instantly. Why didn't I think of that?
All for JLTP (John Lovell Training Program) DVD set like this comment! Lets call em 'Warrior Poet Guides to Firearm Excellence? Maybe make sets in a series like 'Warrior Poets Guide to AR15: Fundamentals' and all through more advanced techniques?
Its 2019, no-one watches DVDs anymore.
Then there can be downloadable options if thats more people's style. I just like having a tangible object I can carry with me, and not worry about it somehow being lost
Jonathan K - That is until John sells his training program....
This is great information! I spent 5 years as an infantryman with a great shot, but could have benefited from someone teaching me these fundamentals.
