@@EightThreeEight, because it outlines all of the 613 laws by which Jews were expected to live. I'm FAIRLY certain only Orthodox Jews adhere to them fully nowadays, and maybe not even them, but a lot of them are dumb, like not wearing mixed fabrics. Well, okay, 603, because the 613 contains the Decalogue, but still. I don't recall whether I've ever real ALL of Leviticus, but one can imagine it's about as interesting as your average legal document. What I SHOULD do is to read the Hammurabi Code and see how much of Leviticus is taken from that, because that was definitely an influential legal document of its time, and it's very equal...except between free and slave. It's where we get "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" from, and I wonder how similar the Leviticus Law is to it.

Getting ready for Leviticus, I've never read it so I'm gonna make some bets going into it:
    - Yahweh forbids rape, incest, and child abuse
    - Yahweh explicitly forbids slavery
    - Yahweh clearly defines morality
    - Yahweh sets his precedent for abortion in a way that cannot be misinterpreted, and perfectly aligns with the beliefs of all Jews, Christians, and Muslims everywhere
    - Yahweh provides a third alternative so that abortion is not necessary, so that a woman isn't forced to birth a child but the child can be born another way, and will be cared for throughout its life
    - Yahweh explains why the world has so many thousands of different religions and competing gods, many of them for thousands of years before these events, and resolves the matter to everyone's satisfaction
    - Yahweh apologizes for his abhorrent, genocidal, narcissistic, megalomaniac behavior up until now and vows to make it up to his chosen people
    - Yahweh stops having a chosen people, cuz he knows and acknowledges that it's wrong
    - Yahweh stops committing horrific atrocities
    - Yahweh clears up all misconceptions, contradictions, and scientific inaccuracies up until now in his big book
    - Yahweh works tirelessly to lead by positive example and inspires people to resolve their differences with words, through peace and compromise, in an effort to be kind and considerate to one another because reciprocal altruism leads to greater collective safety and prosperity
    - Yahweh provides mental health counseling for the trauma he has put these people through, to prevent genetic inheritance of stress and anxiety for eons to come
    - Yahweh puts an end to control through worship and obedience under threats, to prevent millenia of forced adherence to dogma out of fear
    - Yahweh goes back in time to undo his mistakes before they ever happened, instead of setting up scenarios he knew would fail and punishing people for his own blunders
    - Yahweh provides a means so that future generations, millenia later, will have reliable evidence of his existence and instructions, and won't simply have to depend on the fractured, contradictory, nonsensical mythological fables and hand-copied propaganda from superstitious broze-age nomads and their manipulative ruling priest class
    - Yahweh explains all the secrets and mysteries of life, death, and the universe, answers all of everyone's deep questions, and explains why he built people to have such troubling questions in the first place
    - The author of this work identifies themselves, lists their qualifications, indicates the date and location of authorship, provides dates for all claimed events, cites all sources, and candidly discusses the reliability of said sources to help the reader reach an unbiased conclusion as to the reliability of the information
    Anyone else have any guesses?

Read the whole bible from cover to cover and it will put you off Christianity for good and all. The honest truth is that the bible is a contradictory, muddled mess. I've read it all many times, including the New Testament in its original Greek, and I can safely say that there are many other works that are far more helpful and better guides to morality than the bible is anywhere near being. Non-religious people are just as likely, and often more likely, to lead high moral standard lives than are religious people and history teaches us that Christianity is a main cause of wars. Adolf Hitler was a religious man, who believed God was on his side along with that of all the German people. He was brought up in a devout Austrian Roman Catholic family and was proud of his Austrian ancestry. German is the native language of Austria.

These are all the instructions Noah got to build a bloody great impossible ship to carry all of the worlds animals. ‘So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit high all around. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks’. That's it.

      The exodus NEVER happened!
If, in the story, God hardened the pharaoh's heart to make him, against his free will, deny the slaves their freedom, then how is it "justice" to punish them? Especially if he sent the Israeli into slavery in the first place.
      Makes no sense.
This God of the Bible is defined as super-omni. So why does he make so many regretful choices?

Exodus 20 never calls those the "Ten Commandments". Exodus 34 is the only place where a specific set of text is referred to as the "Ten Commandments".
Deuteronomy also mentioned the Ten Commandments and appears to be describing the events that take place in Exodus 20, so the two books are in contradiction to each other and a lot of scholars believe these two different Decalogues to have two different origins that were never reconciled when both were put in the Hebrew Bible.

They weren’t very good at writing stories were they? The most epic myth of the bible ends in pages of instructions on how to make a tent.
Where’s the plot twist, the big whodunnit reveal? Someone tell them their stories need a beginning where they set the scene, a middle with the main plot and a climatic ending.

I mean... Who in their right mind would read this stuff??? I Kind of remember something with Kanaan did come after Moses in my children's bible... But the big question I have: when do we get to the spicy parts? For example David sending a man to his death so he can marry his widow? I mean... That's a story that kinda burned itself in my brain cause... DA HECK DUDE???

I had to read a bowdlerized version of the Bible in Catholic school. Most of those "juicy" bits had been excised. For example, the part where Lot had sex with his daughters was missing. The chapters sanctioning the slave trade were also missing.

I'm still mystified how their god conveyed all this complicated information, did he make instruction booklets or did he have a dictaphone? It all seems very unlikely.

4:00 spoiler alert, in Numbers, the Israelites will eventually say that, and it always baffled me but it really makes sense now.

Everyone would have been better off, if the Israelites had remained in Egypt. Mass genocides of many villages of families would have been circumvented....unless of course Yahweh and Moses had then found another tribe of bandits to do their bidding.
