    People talking about dated transmisions and turbos are not getting this car.
    This is supposed to be a basic rugged 4x4, not an autobahn demon, why do you need the turbo?
    The auto trans has only 4 speeds, it´s very good for offroad use, why would you need an 8 speed auto trans out there? those trans keep changing gear and overheating under those conditions, also weight more.
    Yes, there are many electronic and mechanical toys around, but this is not the kind of car that needs them.
    Is the Jimny a 1/4 mile car? no.
    Is the Jimny a highway car? no.
    It is basic, and it´s supposed to be basic; one of the best things about this car is how it drives some people crazy because "it should have this and that".

    Here in Australia, any off-roader's dream is a fully rigged Toyota Landcruiser 70 series dual cab ute. And the people that have them are just itching to tow some stuck 4wd'er out of the sand and put all their gear to use. But many times due to it's displaced rear wheelbase and massive weight, it's prone to get stuck in the sand itself. And that is where the Suzuki Jimny shines. It's so lightweight that it rather drives over the sand than through it. And best of all is if it gets stuck, you just push it out because it doesn't weigh a lot.

    That manual 0-100 is about the same as an older Jeep I had. 1750kg and 4.0 engine in that vs 1075 and 1.5 in this. Completely different, but I can see the appeal of this being cheaper on fuel and therefore easier to justify daily use. And probably good fun revving the thing out without having to back off in 2 seconds like most moderns.

    Hey PDriveTV, what is the auto like to live with, in day to day traffic?? I have a few manual cars but I was considering a Jimny Auto for my work commute and occasionally 4x4ing... The problem is, that the performance of the auto is WAY lower than the manual. I wasn't expecting it to be such a big gap.
    15 seconds 0-100 is possibly too hard to live with.... Especially when my weekend car is 3 seconds 0-100... What to do!?

    • @PDriveTV
      @PDriveTV  5 років тому +4

      As you know, 0-100km/h doesn't tell the full story. But in this case the auto is noticeably slow even in the real world. It's ok in city conditions and slow speed traffic and so on, but we'd suggest the manual if you're spending a lot of your time on the highway or open roads. Hope this helps.

      USA is not getting a Jimny, because they played it down on purpose back in the 80 when it was called Samurai.
      The department for road safety USA wrote in its report, that the Samurai had bad brakes and was unstable handling which made it dangerous in traffic.

    • @arnemaeschaelck5012
      @arnemaeschaelck5012 5 років тому +2

      Ernesto E. Carrillo K. I agree, you can clearly see what gears can do to a car and what a huge difference it makes (and how much less efficient a torque converter can make car when combined with a small engine). However, 4 speeds are usually quite simple in design and therefore... more reliable. Which is what Suzuki, but especially the jimny, go for.
      If you look at the manual one, the shifter literally looks like a car from the eighties!
      The 4 speed will probably also allow for more torque and is probably all you'll need off-road.
      The jimny is just pretty basic, that's its thing. It could've probably even produced more hp and torque if it had a 1.0 3 cylinder with a turbo and feel much snappier, which is what any European manufacturer would've done, but their n/a 1.5 will probably be more reliable and is basic and trouble free.
      I'm glad they were still allowed to produce/sell a car where they've literally done nothing for efficiency, but hey, it'll run forever and a Multiport injected 4 cyl is probably still better for our health than these modern direct injected engines (which Germany is about to ban, a 2010 Golf TSI will get a worse rating than a 2000 Golf with indirect injection)

      Hi, Thanks for your comment. Behind the scenes we try out all different methods to find the quickest time using a Racelogic Vbox Sport. Bringing the revs up on the brake pedal returned the quickest result for us (we find this is commonly the case for most auto vehicles that we test).
      We're not sure what you mean by "learn how to shift". Could you elaborate?

    100kmh from three guage or verified speed, gauges 'always' show to high speed.
    I then tested, guage showing 140 it was really going 120.
    Also the amounts wrong aren't % but a set value at different speeds off with % only in some, so deliberately showing wrong as not liner values, Speedos digital. If have bold tires it's likely way off then.
    But the km driven seems to show more correct! So it's a speed only guage deliberately issue, on all cars I've tested. I guess it makes fuel consumption look better... And won't over speed in speed traps.

    • @PDriveTV
      @PDriveTV  5 років тому +2

      We don't time cars by looking at the gauge. We use a GPS-based Racelogic Vbox Sport. Gauges are almost always incorrect, on purpose.
