2 years for gang rape??? In Australia they'd be gone for decades. That's the problem. The laws are't strict enough. It's a patriarchal problem. Disgusting.

Australia’s legal system is a bit better, but not by much. It’s a case close to me, but there was a p*do charged with 6 counts of SAing girls under the age of 10, and he got 100 hours community service. That’s it. It’s ridiculous. There’s no justice, not properly.

No one is talking. 840,000 people are making minors targets of sexual crimes by sharing videos containing personal information in women's cafes. Kakao's official women-only cafe called (Yeo-seong-si-dae) is illegally sharing personal information and face&body information of minors. It is notorious for sharing face and nude photos. If you look at the data on what information is being shared, they secretly filmed a minor wearing a school uniform and commented on it, saying, "he has a pretty genitals," and "The face and nude photos are cute. If the boy is 17, he's perfect as a sexual plaything." It's Daum Kakao official cafe became public for the first time because foreign were also recently targeted.

Girls romanticized Korean guys because of K-Drama thinking that all of them are gentlemen, polite, innocent, loyal, etc, etc but in reality, it is the opposite. That's why it's called "drama" because it is fictional, not reality.

Actually, Korean dramas also tell a lot about the society. People constantly commenting on someone's weight or looks, feeling obliged to drink until late with their coworkers or bosses, putting pressure on working mothers, openly slapping younger siblings or children etc. Even in romanticized versions of reality some things really stand out for people from other countries and societies

Contrary to what they say, if we knew how Korean society exploits Korean men, we would not be able to unilaterally dishonor Korean men like this. The situation of the average Korean man is different from Burning Sun. Korean women also know that the average Korean man is exploited and lives a life that has nothing to do with Burning Sun. Even though they know this, Korean women continue to criticize men like this. Stop lying about Korea, Korean women.

Jung Joon-young seems like he's alone and didn't have someone great behind him so that's why he got more.
i used to really like kpop from 2009 - 2013/4, just grew old but still dapping every now and then. it wasn't a surprised for me when i heard about this scandal and their prison terms. even cases of murder or pedophile, the perpetrator got no more than 10 yrs - like for a nobody person. i feel like the reason the sentence is so low is because of the politicians in their national assembly, they probably did it too so they also don't want a harsh sentence so that's probably why they wrote the law that way.

I'm a high school girl in Korea.
First of all, I'm truly, sincerely grateful that bbc brought this up because If I raise questions about these kinds of issues at school, I'm branded a thumping piggy feminist, an "emotional disorder."
I shed tears of unknown reason when I saw comments from foreigners who said they would listen to this and stand in solidarity. Thank you very much.
When this incident broke out, Korea was quiet. When Room N broke out (a case in which 260,000 Korean men watched a video clip in which a caterpillar was placed on a video device sexually assaulting elementary, middle, and high school and adult women my age), Korean men exaggerated the incident, saying that the actual sexual assault rate would be reduced only when the victims watched such videos as "enjoyed" because they wanted to. The mastermind of this nightmare was sentenced to 40 years in prison, and the person who disclosed their personal information about the criminals in anger was sentenced to two years in prison.
Three years later, just yesterday, a group of male students from Seoul National University, the nation's most prestigious university, posted illegal compounds of 60 women from their alumni and enjoyed watching them in more than 200 chat rooms. Another man from a prestigious medical school killed his girlfriend, who told him to break up at the same school.
Even though women are being sexually assaulted and killed every day in this land, the media keeps silent about the demonstration of a female nursery teacher who has no motherhood, and Korean men treat me as if it is the only big deal. It is a sense of victimization. Women also enjoy watching children's play, but they cover up the case, saying, "Isn't it the female version of Room N?" I cannot comment on these issues at school. That is why I desperately need your attention and solidarity. please Don't believe what they say in K-drama. I hope women take care of yourself and stay safe.

South Korean women are expressing their gratitude to BBC for recently covering the Burning Sun crime committed by Korean men against Korean women.
I am very grateful to the BBC for reporting in detail on the incidents of gang rape, gang violence (torture, including pulling out women's teeth), illegal filming, and police cover-up committed by Korean men at Burning Sun in Korea for several years.
Before the BBC reported, Korean women who have been sexually assaulted are afraid to report it because Korean men have threatened to distribute videos of them being gang-raped.
When Goo Hara, a courageous female victim despite threats, tried to expose the crime, the illegal filming victim was murdered.
Another rape victim also mustered up the courage to report it to the police, but instead she was charged with false accusation.
As you can see from the video, the male police officer knew that the women had been brutally raped.
If the BBC had not covered sexual violence in Korea, the Korean media would have forever ignored this terrible incident.
To this day, the Korean men who committed the crime and the male police officers who covered up the incident are innocent, but thanks to the BBC, Korean women are demanding that the Korean men be punished.
Additionally, thanks to the BBC's report, the 'Milyang' gang rape incident that occurred in Korea also received attention. The ‘Milyang Incident’ is an incident in which dozens of Korean men gang-raped a Korean woman. The men were all found not guilty because they were high school students.
Afterwards, the victim's father abused her and extorted money from her because his daughter had been sexually assaulted.
Including myself, could not trust the Korean media, which only reported articles favorable to Korean men.
It is natural for Korean men who secretly drug women and commit group sexual assault to be acquitted, and it is not even reported on the news.
In Korea, incels are rampant in everyday life, including politics, business, news, law and society.
A few days ago, a Korean woman was assaulted by her Korean boyfriend and reported it to the police for several days. However, the police did not intervene because the woman defended herself against the man's attack, and the woman ended up being beaten to death by her boyfriend.
Another Korean woman, Tzuyang, was abused and threatened by her Korean boyfriend for several years, and he extorted 4 billion won from her, but it was only revealed a few days ago. However, many Korean male UA-camrs mocked her.
Statistically, Korea is the country with the highest rate of women being murdered by men in the world.
Every day, Korean men commit serious crimes against Korean women, including murder, illegal filming, stalking, and assault.
Wonderful foreign men and women, I would be very grateful if you could help raise the human rights of Korean women.

Next day my korean male friend come in the class room and open my cam show of his porn while his girl friend stand behind him and smile to all classmates in the class. I was not ok about it, not respect, not care at all. after that day I did not talk to male friend at all . I took the videotap secretly give it back to the female who was took a video.

I am a South Korean woman.
I am so grateful to the BBC for reporting in detail on incidents of gang rape, mass violence (torture, including the extraction of women's teeth), illegal filming and police cover-ups committed by Korean men in South Korea over the years.
Before the BBC report, Korean women who had been sexually assaulted were afraid to report it because Korean men threatened to distribute videos of them being gang-raped.
Despite the threats, brave victim Goo Hara tried to expose the crime, but was eventually murdered by a Korean man.
A Korean man was captured on CCTV breaking into Goo Hara's house just before her death, but the Korean men concluded her death was a suicide.
Even after the BBC report, police have not yet investigated the culprit.
Another sexual assault victim also mustered up the courage to report it to the police, but Korean men accused her of making false accusations even though they knew she had been brutally sexually assaulted.
On the other hand, the Korean man who committed the crime and the Korean male police officer who covered up the incident were either found not guilty or sentenced to only six months to 5 year in prison.
Most foreigners seem to think that Korean male idols receive low punishment because they have a lot of assets.
      That's not true
In Miryang, South Korea, dozens of Korean male high school students gang-raped a female high school student and distributed the video, but all were found not guilty.
Most of the parents of those high school students were ordinary or poor people.

I already knew there are huge societal issues in South Korea, especially regarding women's rights and how male offenders are never punished, but I think that of this documentary, I find the lack of judicial action and protection even more disgusting and distressing than what these women have had to suffer and will have to keep enduring without a reform of the law.

And also, seungri's club indulged in drugging girls and forcefully bringing those girls to their VIP clients to be sexually assaulted/raped...in exchange for monetary benefits..that itself is a huge crime already too .. but I feel that these were not the focus during the sentencing..like U hear of seungri being convicted for procuring prostitutes .. but what about abetting and assisting in sexual assaults...and ..18 months for a sentencing?!

I am so grateful to the BBC for reporting in detail on the incidents of gang rape, gang violence (torture, including pulling out women's teeth), illegal filming, and police cover-up committed by Korean men in South Korea for several years.
Before the BBC reported, Korean women who have been sexually assaulted are afraid to report it because Korean men have threatened to distribute videos of them being gang-raped.
When Goo Hara, a courageous female victim despite threats, tried to expose the crime, the illegal filming victim was murdered.
However, even though a Korean man was caught on CCTV breaking into Goo Hara's house just before her death, Korean police ruled her death a suicide.
The Korean women only found out about this after the BBC reported it, but police have not yet investigated the culprit.
Additionally, thanks to the BBC's report, the 'Milyang' gang rape incident that occurred in South Korea also received attention. The ‘Milyang Incident’ is an incident in which dozens of Korean men gang-raped a Korean woman.
Afterwards, Korean male rapists filmed a video of the woman being raped and distributed it.
But Korean men were all found not guilty.

-A 20-year-old man who completed his military service in Korea returned from military service 10 days ago.
      - .2024.6. 27. (화성 동탄 화장실 사건)In Dongtan, Hwaseong, a Korean woman in her 30s reported to the police that a man touched her breasts and genitals, and the woman kicked the man's genitals and ran away.
      - Currently, there is only the woman's claim and the man's counterargument, with no substantive evidence.
      - The man was threatened by the police to stay quiet, and the man who had just been discharged from the military is scheduled to be imprisoned under the principle of presumption of guilt without any evidence. In this way, the Hwaseong Tongtan Police Station in Korea has achieved the highest rate of arrest of sex offenders. This is Korean law. Korean women in their 20s and 30s have made a lot of money through false accusations, and this is the popular culture of Koreans in their 20s and 30s. In a Korean women-only community, many know-hows are being shared on how to report men for false accusations and receive settlement money.Don't ask laws online community.
Ask lawyers about Korea law. More than 80% of Korean women who go to nightclubs like burning sun do so with the intention of having a one-night stand. Just ask them directly. These so-called victims have one-night stands and receive millions of dollars. In our country, sex workers receive tens of thousands of dollars in free government support. Discrimination is due to ignorance, so educate yourself. BBC girls get 1000,000$ from bigbang.
Actor Lee Sun-kyun was falsely accused of sexual assault by self-proclaimed radical feminists from the Daum Kakao Cafe (Yeoseongsidae), which has 840,000 members. After succumbing to their threats and extortion, paying them hundreds of thousands of dollars, he tragically committed suicide. Evidence of blackmail and false accusations was presented to the police, leading to the arrest and subsequent confession of the perpetrators. They were sentenced to one year in prison. This story is currently being covered by Korean media outlets.
Many K-pop fans, predominantly women including radical feminists, also contributed to the tragic deaths of Shirley and Goo Hara with their hurtful comments. Shirley was targeted for her appeal to male audiences, leading to relentless online harassment and her untimely death. Goo Hara's suicide was likely influenced by this negativity and the Werther effect. These individuals frequently gather on Daum's official community, Yeo Seong Si Dae, which is known for its 840,000 extremist members. Within this closed community, Shirley was unjustly demonized and became the target of a relentless witch hunt.
Under the Women's Protection Act in Korea, men often bear the burden of proving their innocence in sexual assault cases, leading to convictions based solely on accusations. A notable example is the case involving Yeongsu Oh, an actor from the "Squid Game" series, where the only evidence was the accuser’s diary. This legal bias was also evident in Lee Sun-kyun’s case, where false accusations led to devastating consequences.
Statistics suggest that over 80% of Korean women go to nightclubs with the intention of having a one-night stand. However, the court often renders guilty verdicts based on the presumption of guilt in sexual assault cases while being more lenient in cases of prostitution and drug crimes. Despite Korea's minimum sentence of 10 years for rape, some argue that the penalties are still too lenient. Korea refers to rape as "robbery rape" and follows the principle of presumption of guilt.
The 840,000 members of Kakao's women-only Daum official cafe, Yeoseongsidae, who have been implicated in criminal activities for sharing videos containing personal information of minors, have surprisingly received little attention. Insights from Reddit posts have brought to light the site's reputation for unlawfully distributing facial and nude photos, as well as personal details like addresses and names. This underscores the crucial need for direct permission from the operator to join. Notably,The exposure of this information didn't stem from formal reports but rather surfaced through disclosures on Reddit, where a former USFK member revealed the situation. The Kakao official cafe gained public attention for the first time due to its association with the former President Moon Jae-in's Democratic Party, which had close ties to the police chief who overlooked the Burning Sun scandal. Consequently, Korean media outlets like '뉴데일리' refrained from reporting on it, showing deference to the party's influence. However, it wasn't until the recent revelation of the site's criminal activities by the US military personnel that it was first brought to light. If you look at the on the site and you can show what information is being shared, they secretly filmed a minor wearing a school uniform and commented on it, saying, "he has a pretty genitals," "The face and nude photos are cute who is 17 so perfect as a sexual plaything." This crime is pubilcized for the first time in medias and newspapers because United States Forces were also recently targeted.
      ## Overview of the Training Recruit Torture and Murder Incident
A significant point of focus in this incident is South Korea's policy of promoting civilian women to officers in the military through a quota system. This female officer, who had never seen sunlight and had extremely fair skin, imposed additional heavy burdens on the recruit and failed to take appropriate medical measures even as his health deteriorated severely. This incident tragically involves the death of a recruit due to torture during military training.
      ### Incident Process
      1. **Recruit A Enlistment**:
      - Recruit A enlisted in the military.
      - Recruit A had been in the military for only 9 days.
      2. **Excessive Burden and Torture**:
      - Despite already carrying a heavy military pack weighing approximately 40kg, Officer B forced Recruit A to carry an even heavier load.
      - As a result, Recruit A's health deteriorated significantly, and despite requests for help from fellow recruits, Officer B ignored them.
      3. **Tragic Outcome**:
      - Due to the excessive burden and torture, Recruit A eventually died.
      - Subsequently, Officer B attempted to cover up the incident, but it was exposed due to efforts from medical institutions and military officials.
      ### Controversial Elements
      1. **Gender Disparity in Punishment**:
      - Many people criticize the fact that Officer B, as the perpetrator, received not even an arrest or investigation but instead a month-long vacation supposedly for mental stability, solely because she is a woman. However, South Korean women in their 20s and 30s tend to distort this as a "Chosun Dynasty exile measure" and implicitly support the perpetrator due to her gender.
      - Politicians are wary of the response from young female voters and have thus faced criticism for not handling the incident appropriately. Given the significant political influence of women in South Korean society, it is important for women to bravely report such incidents to the media. However, currently, very few Korean women have come forward with this incident to the press.
Seoul National University's Happiness Research Center and Kakao Geachi jointly conducted and published the "ABOUT H: South Korea Happiness Report 2019" (21st Century Books) on the 9th. Professor Choi In-cheol and the research team from Seoul National University's Happiness Research Center also held a press conference at Gwanghwamun Vertex Korea on the same day.
The survey targeted 1.05 million people over the past year, accumulating a total of 2.27 million records due to the possibility of duplicate responses.
The research team and publishers claimed it to be the world's first and largest "national happiness research project." According to the survey findings, women in their 20s and 30s exhibited the highest levels of materialism, the lowest gratitude index (degree of felt gratitude), and the highest prevalence of neurosis (emotional anxiety). They also showed a high tendency to compare themselves with others.
Professor Choi stated, "The answer to gender differences lies in neurosis. Women in their 20s and 30s showed the highest tendency towards neurosis," adding, "Women in their 20s and 30s also had the lowest levels of gratitude. Therefore, they exhibit a heightened sense of victimization, mistrust towards others, and a significantly increased likelihood of explosive and aggressive behavior even with minor stressors.,,272

In S.Korea, 95.45% of criminals are men.
On the other hand, 85.81% of victims are women.
In other words, among OECD countries, S.K is a country where men commit crimes against women with an overwhelmingly high rate.
This is because male chauvinism and misogyny are rampant in SK, and SK laws and media are lenient toward SK men.
In SK, it is not surprising that a SK man was found not guilty on charges of gang rape, assault, and illegal filming of women.

You have to wonder if such fictional works were inspired by realities of the vast underworld existing in the cities or were they influenced by the fictional depictions of such dystopias in their world and acting as if it's how their society should and could be. I' love South Korea and felt it's one of the safest cities in the world, but as always there's something underneath a beautiful facade and in this case it's even worse when not only the authorities are polishing the surface but the societal norm is to continue patching the cracking facade from behind.

Patriarchy is a worldwide issue hun not a South Korea issue. What’s with these Americans everywhere making this some korea issue. This is a human issue. This is not some “exclusive to Korean women” kind of issue.

I hv been glued to Netflix watching Korean serials and i was so influenced by the mannerisms shown there especially by the men, the respect towards women and elders. It was so mesmerizing that i hv been watching like 8 hours of Korean content on most days. But this report speaks the opposite of my perspective, sad actually. People in general who gain power by fame should learn to be humble and not exploiters

This is because South Korea is a man-worshiping country. Even fangirls are colored by the male worship of Korean society. Therefore, they value the feelings of the male idols they worship more than the lives of women who are victims of crime.
