      It is a police officer. He was a police officer. It is a man. This is what men with bruised egos do all the time. Let’s look at the reality of our society. Violent men make up much of the police and firefighting forces around the world. There are statistics. Lots of domestic violence and assault. Men with egos go into professions where people’s lives can be placed in their hands on purpose.

    As a Filipino myself, I hope I can provide a little bit of context as to why people hated the girl. Our culture pays *HUGE* respect to elders. This includes reaching out to their hands and placing them on our foreheads when we visit them (called 'Mano'). When elderlies are talking and we have to pass through in the middle, we will bow and walk while having our heads really low to avoid interrupting the conversation and to pay respect. We also can't interrupt any conversations of elderlies because it is considered "rude". But her actions were clearly inappropriate. Pulling the grandma's hair and being physical with her is unacceptable (in all parts of the world I know, but most especially here in the Philippines it's a big deal).
    In addition, her screaming "MY FATHER IS A POLICEMAN!" if you analyze the whole conversation in a Filipino context, does not mean that "My dad is an officer and he's on the right" but it screams "My father is an officer. How dare you lay your dirty fingers on us?" that's why she got hated on it.

    Ellie's actions spoke volumes; she wasnt afraid for her dad's safety or morally outraged or frightened by their refusal to submit to "the law". He had the gun and the authority. By 13 you know that much, at least intellectually. That teenager thought her father and family to be "above" the neighbours, and as a product of her environment, she revelled in it. I believe that she was aware that her dad was a tyrant but as a child she was happy to reap the benefits of his corruption in his position of power.
    He created a monster with that child. Selfish, evil thing that he is, he didnt care about her or he wouldve extricated her from that awful scene. While she may have been a child, she needs to be monitored as a potential danger. Brainwashing is not done overnight and shes likely mentally unwell.

    If no one had recorded a video, and it hadn't gone viral, I'm absolutely certain that the police would have spun this as a self-defense scenario or "nanlaban" (fought back) during an arrest on trumped-up drug charges, a narrative that seems to inexplicably repeat itself whenever police are implicated in such incidents. Consider, for instance, the tragic case of Kian Delos Santos, an unarmed 17-year-old boy apprehended by the police and fatally shot in a dark alley. He perished, pleading for his life, mentioning he had an upcoming school test the next day.

    In the Philippines, when you speak in English to a fellow Filipino in the same tone as the kid did, that kind of attitude connotes that you feel like above the person you are talking to or you want to implicate that you are on a higher level. With that kind of mindset, I think the kid wants to show her superiority above Sonia and Frank since they are not well off and that statement "My father is a policeman" is her telling them "b*tch you better bow down because you are nothing".. That kid is 13, not a baby, and not a toddler. She has knowledge of what is acceptable and what isn't. We shouldn't excuse such vicious acts cause of their age or dumb them down by "not knowing". With the type of dad she has there's definitely a possibility that the way he sees the world has rubbed off on his daughter since she was little. The great entitlement to insert herself in this matter and how her dad didn't tell her to stop or back off just shows a lot about their character. As someone who loves their dad and an 18-year-old, I know that my dad wouldn't want me to put myself in any situation or even witness it. The fact that she confidently yelled and put her hands on an elderly woman just shows this is what she was taught. I honestly don't care about how she feels before and after. A 13-year-old kid can already read, write, and understand. She comprehends what she writes and understands what's happening around her, though not deeply. She's old enough to know right from wrong. This 13-year-old kid triggers her father's behavior. A 13-year-old shouldn't have the audacity to pull an old woman's hair and shout disrespectful words at them. Most children here in the Philippines are taught basic respect for older people, whether at home or at least in school. We also have a saying "Huwag makialam sa usapan ng matatanda" (which translates to "Don't meddle in the conversations of adults" in English). We can't always say that she's only a child who can't understand what's happening because we aren't the ones grieving for a lost grandma and her child.
    I understand the sentiments of other people that "you are cyberbullying a kid; she's not old enough to understand the situation; she's just protecting her father." But she's clearly using her father's job as leverage to harass people. I assume that this kid often uses the phrase "My father is a policeman" to assert her position in school.

    Ben & Ben (a very popular band in the Philippines) wrote the song "Kapangyarihan" (lit. "Power, Authority, Sovereign") as tribute to the victims of this exact incident and all others who suffered extrajudicial measures of any kind.
    Whenever I listen to Kapangyarihan, I always remember the scenes in the video of this incident.
    This incident in particular is the last straw for Ben & Ben as at that time, the Philippines was wrought with abusive authorities taking advantage of the COVID situation. I imagine Ben & Ben was collectively frustrated, angry and afraid that they let it all out in the song because the lyrics were wrathful.
    In a way, the song was a protest against the authorities who deserved neither badge nor office.
    This song was the voice of all those who were silenced.

      There are plenty of troubled and messed up kids in juvenile hall and recovery homes that act WAY worse then "disrespectful" of their elders, and yes even pulling elders hair. It's not a good sign, he's, but, it's also not an indictment of an "evil" hopeless life. Many kids, acting out WAY worse, learn from their mistakes to become fine people. Here we are, NOT indicting addicts as being "bad people" but needing help; yet this girl has somehow committed the unforgivable sin of acting stupid and rule breaking.
      Justification for cyber bullying? So what are THEIR justifications? They can't even hide behind the fact they are "only" 13. I'll betcha if "she" had been a "he" there wouldn't have been such a huge and cry for her head. This idea that girls somehow have to never violate norms of respectability with more vicious attack then boys, is why women are not even taken that seriously when they are abused or sa'd.

    • @Xessa82
      @Xessa82 Рік тому +45

      @@userfriendlyforeverSorry but I completely disagree with you. Teens and younger kids a lot of times have trouble controlling their emotions especially when going through puberty so to say they're usually more calm than adults is insane. We have no clue why this girl was there or what she was doing before this started. If she's being abused at home or sees her father being aggressive/violent would not mean she'd automatically be to afraid to be there. If anything she would be more inclined to do things in front of her father that she would think would please him like mimicking his behavior. If he's normally aggressive and in peoples faces and she knows he hates these people then it would make sense for her to act this way hoping it would make her dad happy. Children that are eager for acceptance and love from their parents will do anything to make their parents proud of them including behaving the same way as they do. If all she knows at home is violence then it would make sense for her to want to imitate that behavior as well. Why do you think children of abuse often times grow up too be abusers themselves. It doesn't happen in every case thankfully but it happens a lot. That's why we often see cycles of abuse in multiple generations of families. She also may have not even known what was going on in the situation and could have thought her dad was trying too arrest this man for legitimate reasons. She may have been scared for her father thinking he was in danger and was trying to protect him. Even small children will try to protect their parents if they think they're in danger. There's just so many unknowns about this situation that we really can't say for sure why she acted the way she did. Is this normal for a 13 year old, no. That leads me too believe she was brought up to behave this way which would be a parenting problem and not completely her fault. If shes never seen the adults in her life show other people respect then why would she show respect to anyone? I don't know where you got the idea that men who are violent in public or "brave" as you called him, aren't this way at home. I think its you who probably needs too learn more before speaking out. You clearly haven't been around violent men before or around abuse if you believe this. Men who act like this in public have no problem acting like this at home. Home is where they're comfortable to be themselves so all their true colors are going to come out. Have you ever been a 13 yr old girl? Do you have children or specifically a teenage daughter? Have you ever witnessed violence in your home or had a violent father? Are you a violent man? If you answer no to the majority of these questions then I don't think you should be telling other people they're wrong for their theory on why she might have acted this way. I can answer yes to all the questions asked but one so I have first hand experience with this topic.

    Violence against women is a very big problem, especially in places of Asia. I'm Indian, and recently, I came across a crime which took place over here. A girl, a mere 16 year old, was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend publicly. People who were there just walked by causally, even after seeing what that monster was doing to her. The video of the attack was so traumatizing that I couldn't help but cry at the pain she must have endured before she met her end. She was killed at the hands of someone she had once trusted. It is the Sakshi Dixit Murder Case. I would be glad if you could cover this case on your channel. Crimes like these must receive international attention. I'm sorry, but no matter what the age that girl is, it is ENGRAINED to our mind to never disrespect our elders. She is aware of what is happening of how there is trouble happening in that place, she pulled out her phone instead of stopping her father from making things worse and she pull the elder's hair in a clear blatant disrespect! Yes, she is a minor, but she knows what she is doing and that doesn't excuse her actions. But, is she deserving of being cyberbullied online, getting ridiculed, or getting judge? hell NO. I hope she does get some education about police brutality (just because her dad is a police, doesn't mean he is a hero, kid) and I hope that the online harassment wouldn't affect her mental well-being.
    But, if that's how she is after years go by, then I just wasted my time hoping her the best.
    Reading articles about this is infuriating, especially when you take into an account of the fact that this all happened during Duterte's presidency, where a lot of police killings have been everywhere (and to the fact that I am also exposed to many corrupt police cases around the world) I wasn't surprised that THAT MAN was treated like a celebrity, I wasn't surprised that they still have him carry his gun around off-duty, I wasn't surprised a family feud lead to this, but instead, I feel disappointed at our country's justice system.

She was adding fuel to the fire. the kid did not comprehend well on what was happening on the instances that happened. Yes, the woman was egging on the I dont care song, but that does not warrant their deaths. A policeman would have kept his cool to deal with a situation no matter who is the person that they are dealing with. The policeman was a crooked cop from the get go.

      I really hate how there are so many people that have no issues with bullying a 13 yr old who clearly wasn’t raised with good parents. That’s 13 years of taking in horrible information that is no doubt harmful for a growing individual to learn. Justice has been served for the guilty, yet there are people who go out of their way to stand out a house carrying signs with death threats and disgusting insults aimed at a young immature girl who isn’t entirely aware of what is going on. Her dad was a monster, and those people are as well.

The nightclub is called Kiss and it all started as a normal freshers party that would unfortunately end with 242 deaths. This case deeply impacted Brazil and it is talked about till this day because of all the corruption that it uncovered. Last year Netflix released a tv show inspired by this case called the endless night. Speaking as a Brazilian and a fan of your work I would love to see you covering this case!

That was a painful watch not only because it's graphic but also I got so disturbed by the fact that if not for that video, he would have gotten away with that murder. Police brutality here is very rampant and the only few ones that are brought to justice are the ones that happen to have video recordings.

    People defending Elilie reminds me of when “children” in that age range (13) in South Korea viciously bully and torture other people and the excuse is they’re just kids they don’t know they’re doing.
    When I was 13 even in the midst of a really tense situation, I knew that it waa wrong to yell at adults let alone pull on an adults hair and or hit them. You’re not a baby when you’re 13, you know right from wrong and you know not to do those things such as bullying or assaulting an adult.
    Honestly, I can’t find it in my heart to feel bad for Ellie. God knows situation she grew up in maybe she had a spoiled brat mentality, but I don’t think that excuses her actions whatsoever.

      So true. I wasn't a perfect kid when I was 13 too but I know what's wrong from right. And my parents would've out right tell me if I'm making mistakes and I would reflect. The way she shouts at Sonya really shows how an entitled brat she is. But I do hope she changes when she grows up & then again we can never be sure cause the people raising her isn't doing a good job.

    • @kokopium1530
      @kokopium1530 Рік тому +2

      now that's just wrong to compare bullies but it's not about excusing her behavior. It's literally explaining why she was like that and why the hate she got was undeserved. She was definitely wrong but does that justify bullying her to death? She should be punished and her actions should be corrected and that's it. Accountability should be asked of the parents who raised her.
      And you may not be a baby when you're 13 but you definitely don't know what is right or wrong. You can tell because you grew up in a decent environment where you perceive what is right or wrong through the actions of everyone around you.
      While she grew up in an environment where her father was on the "right" side. She grew up thinking that everything her father does is for the sake of "justice". So if you were in her position of having the impression that every action of your father is 'right' would you say the same?

    • @kokopium1530
      @kokopium1530 Рік тому +1

      Also bullying is a different topic that shouldn't even be compared to her case. Bullying itself shouldn't be looked upon as a whole as different people have different circumstances. Some are just psychotic, some don't know that what they're doing is wrong, some are acting out, and some are just kids acting mean to impress and hide their vulnerable selves. Do those things make it okay? Of course not. But knowing their circumstances can help how to deal with the kids, how to take action, and how to correct them.

    This case went super viral, many made fun of the elderly woman, the girl, the whole event in general. But I was **very** devastated, to think your demise is to be captured on video, and be made fun of. It made me cry, because no one deserves to die that way. But I am glad you covered this incident, and solemnly so. I haven’t finished the video, but if you mentioned this, the policeman (the man who shot the elderly woman and young man) has died in prison. It brought me a lot of joy, and justice is served. I don’t care what you think of me celebrating someones death, but it was well deserved. I hope both the young man and the elderly woman rest in peace, the man stills fuels my hatred to policemen and how they abuse their position. I know not all cops are bad, but theres enough cases like this to say so. The young girl being proud of witnessing a murder angers me too, and needs to be taught a lesson. thank you for adding additional context about the police brutality here and the "war on drugs" movement cause until now it's such a big problem, so many lives have been lost because people are on a power trip. the police are so quick to draw their weapons on people who pose no threat to them. just recently a young man was killed after the police shot him cause they thought he was someone else
