- Poor old GK 400RB's seem to get hacked up by inept techs more than any other amp. Maybe with the exception of HRD & BDLX amps.
Don't bother commenting that I'm negative.
It's my job to find faults and report them to you in order to save you money, you nuffie.

After having two D class amps bite the dust I hunted down a 400RB and I could not be happier, I now have two 400s and two 800s and would recommend them to anyone, superb bullet proof workhorses that you can't kill with a stick.
Quality work man. Im ex-RAAF avionics, and your thinking and approach to all of this work is top-notch.
"...put the soldering iron down. Go and work at Macca's. You dickhead."
This is the content I come here for. =)
Watching these videos makes me really thankful how great of condition my 800RB is in. Great vid!
Tech tip from Stuart at Berkshire Amplifier Repair. "If not reading any voltage on the HT, make sure the IEC thingy is pushed in on the back of the amp!" So glad he doesn't care about editing, a real treasure! Talks through everything, so you can follow his thought process to the fix or the dead-end. Always great.
Great to hear someone who calls it as he sees it, LOL. Regards from across the ditch.
Picked up a 700RB II in great nick. Sounds like a GK, love it.
Great Video and love the level of TLC to bring this amp back up to scratch (also your politeness of the bodge artist refereed to as the "Previous TECH"
Hazlab preamp into one of these is basically the sound of 1992.
I use a black molybdenum anti-seize. The copper stuff can conduct electricity.
amazing work as usual
Nice one mate good job 👏
Thanks for the stainless steel screw information.
If you've ever done the spark plugs on your car or motorcycle, you should have anti-seize already. I even use it on the lug nuts so the wheel locks don't get stuck (that's another fun job). At my first job out of school, I worked at place that made stainless valves and regulators. We had the same issue with galling you describe. The galling would also create false torque readings when torqueing to spec. That would mean the regulator would leak in the helium testing. In that context, we were limited on lubricants because these were clean-room-destined devices and couldn't have any contaminants. Interesting work, but way too unstable job security for my anxiety
Powerful looking amp Brad..Great walkthru, safety tips etc..Love the way you clean up and repair those fab units..Funny commentary as always, the use of the word 'Dickhead' is spot on..Take care..Thanks for sharing..Ed..uk.😀
"uncle grandad" lol
Cleaning up after someone else's bad work is always hard. Great work Brad. For those of us who are techs what is that insulating board and where did you get it?
G'day Steve.
It's sold as eyelet board for Fender style amp builds.
It's available from CE Distribution.
Thinner fish-paper sheets are available from Digikey, Mouser, etc.
@@BradsGuitarGarage , at work we have a bunch of old schematics (for video equipment that we no longer repair) on microfiche, which is made of mylar or a similar plastic, very thin and very tough. Makes a good substitute for insulating fishpaper. (and now the young'uns are going, "what's microfiche"? 🤔)
Excellent.
What is it with GK? Name their amps with numbers double their output wattage?
Dunrite!
Wtf😮
"You nuffie"? Whats a nuffie?
