If you wanted to, with a slight modification you could upgrade the old dial lamps to LED's which last longer, and most likely replaced all the electrolytic caps if required ... and it might work great, but would no longer be in 1970's original condition. 🤔 Nice unit nonetheless and sounds good for the price! 😇

The dial lamps last just about as long as LED and look better

Oh my, I have exactly that receiver somewhere here in my basement, with matching speakers. I think it was the very first stereo I ever owned. Bought used at a local hifi store - for something like $30, back in 1975 or so. Somebody had traded it in.

fuse lamps, I didn't notice they were used outside the automotive world ... I guess why not right lol. About 10 years ago I designed some LED replacements that look like the ones you put in for cars, they were a flop cause we couldnt produce them cheap enough here in the states ... but the point is the only thing that makes a LED replacement 8 volt vs 6 volt is that tiny resistor so instead of lets say 25ma flowing though (each) LED your only getting maybe 17. They are not going to get much brighter fiddling with them without a more robust LED and current limiting in place

Ohh... mmmmm, PROPER Electronics, I can smell them from here! I SO wish that Microchips, etc. had not been invented yet... Everything has just got SO boring, disposable, unapreciated and DULL.

Brilliant. Good tips, thank you. Panasonic 'lable' sucks though.

I agree - he used a "DYMO-Label" maker (or similar) to print the brand name - but in fairness, he used what was on hand at the time to cover up an ugly spot where the original brand strip was.

I have seen these fuse lamps for sale from various supply houses recently. Can’t remember if it was from Digi Key or Mouser.
I do wonder how many more years we will be able to use these legacy receivers. The change has already started in the EU where several northern countries have shut down not only AM stations but FM as well and have switched to unencrypted DAB SYSTEMS. I do foresee in the future that stations will go to subscription services and encrypt their signals but be ready to still receive commercials over the air for what you are paying for service to eliminate commercials. Several LARGE cable suppliers which are over charging for their services are now also interrupting shows with commercials. A very moronic move on their part.
