  • In this episode of the 1983 GPZ1100 project I am once again test riding the GPZ - This time after installing a new clutch cable, having the front fairing subframe welded and remounting the subframe and fairing.

      Me too! I'm super stoked - I just found some parts I've been looking for at a swap meet. Stay tuned for more GPZ videos!

    Thank you for this series, this fall I purchased an 84 GPZ 1100 and am doing many of maintenance jobs you are tackling. I especially liked the short part you did on the fuel injection unit, my bike runs great but the fast idle lever doesn't work at all and I hope to take a look at it this winter. If you ever get back into the FI unit, i bet a few viewers would appreciate seeing more on how you synced and adjusted it all. best of luck

      Hi Jo, I'm glad you are enjoying this series. Even with everything adjusted, the fast idle lever doesn't do much on mine either. It only opens the butterfly throttle valves ever so slightly. You can get the same effect by giving the bike a slight bit of throttle on startup. From what I could see, it doesn't richen the mixture the way a traditional choke does.
      Synchronization is the same as on a carburated bike. One of the middle throttle bodies is connected to the throttle cable. The others are connected to it through adjustable linkages. I worked my way out from the one with the cable. I set the butterflies to open at the same time (visually). Finer tuning can be achieved by a shop with a vacuum manometer but it seems to be running well enough now. I hope I don't have to go back in soon, but if I do I can try to go into more detail here. 🙂

    Hi Jon, a quick test to check your clutch would be to re-tension the adjustment at the engine if you didn't do it when fitting your new cable. (I recently had a slipping clutch even after new friction plates and hd springs, was a tiny bit of pressure on the clutch cam at the engine that applies pressure to the clutch rod) Yeah next try some EBC hd springs and if you are at that stage to fit them, pull out the plates to check and measure to see how far from spec they are

      I re-tensioned the adjuster but it still slipped. I purchased a new clutch with 15% stiffer springs. It is waiting to go into the bike. The weather is starting to turn winter-like. I'm hoping for a clear window so I can test ride the bike immediately after clutch installation. I'll keep updating as the progress continues. Happy New Year!

      @@jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538 Absolutely in a good way! Hence my decision to subscribe. I never owned a big bike but I do remember many years ago having the loan of a CBR1000F for a couple of days and wondering how on earth such a thing could be legal! It's great to see your reviews of all these wonderful old brutes.

      @keyboarddancers7751 Thank you! The CBR1000F was a great machine. I had a beautiful two-tone silver one with white wheels previously. It was fast, comfortable, and capable. It sounded good, too, with a 4-into-1 Vance & Hines exhaust. As a tall guy, the bigger bikes fit me better than the smaller machines. Plus, you get used to the instant power, and it's quite addictive 😉. Cheers!

    Did you happen to do a compression check on this bike. Curious what it was. Asking for another UA-camr.

    • @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538
      @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538  Рік тому +1

      I didn't. I was able to get it running right and it pulls like it should, so no check was needed. I'm not sure what the factory compression specs should be for this bike.
