After rewatching this whole season, Ritchsons eyes and subtle facial expressions are perfect. Like he absorbs and thinks about every sentence said to him.
Exactly like the reacher character in the books
And his delivery. I mean, look at the ending. "... and kill every last one of them." His face, his body language. You can't help thinking "Oh they're so dead". He leaves no doubt that's gonna happen.
"Now, the sound of inevitability, Agent Smith".
He's got just the right "Sherlock Homeless" affect. Like he's thinking all the time and drawing conclusions, but he sees no reason to share them with you.
Alan does the emotion of this scene so well. He goes from analytical to distraught to angry so well and with such a restrained performance. It’s hard to convey so much with having such a stoic character. Everyone in this scene is doing amazing work though.

@@lidla2008 as it happens i was genuinely complimenting him, I think it’s much harder to get an emotion across with small facial movements than shouting / crying etc. I think he’s a really good actor

Everyone saying he played the role so well: I think it could be attributed to him having read all the Reacher novels published in order understand the mannerisms and character. amazing portrayal!
This show was SOOOO well done...the acting , the story and the chemistry interwoven between the lead characters is literally perfect. Ritchson's portrayal of this character is also literally perfect...I didn't think I was gonna LOVE this show , but I do indeed !!!! Absolutely stoked for season two...and three...and four...up to 22 !!!
What I like about Reacher, regardless of stature/size, is the same thing I like about certain versions of Batman. The combination of violent skill, and intelligence. He's a great investigator/detective but also a skilled combatant

Finished this show a few weeks ago, I didn't expect to like it so much. Cast has so much chemistry.
I’ve watched it twice and I’m thinking of watching a third time. He was the perfect Reacher and the story was excellent too. Loved seeing Lee Child, the author of the Reacher books, in his cameo at the end in the diner.
I’ve watched it 5 times. Plus, I’ve watched the fight highlights countless times. Best series ever.
When I first read Killing Floor back in 1998 I was instantly hooked but the incredible coincidence of Reacher arriving in Margrave within a couple of days of his brother's murder and not knowing he was there was a bit hard to swallow. I'm glad they fixed that in the show.
Me too, but I think it’s mentioned in a later book too, when Reacher is about to be mustered out. In which case it must be The Enemy.
How did they fix it in the show?
His brother mentioning Blind Blake and Margrave in a letter a few months back was the explanation given in the books.
It's not like the show is saying Joe had the intention to bring Reacher on board - just that it happened "for a reason" as in "fate wills it" sort of way.
On a general note, a coincidence is an ok way to get characters in trouble, as a starting point.

In the book his bro (secret service agent) says something cryptic about blind Blake in a call to reacher and that's why he goes, he's dropping a hint that he wanted help but couldn't say it out loud in case pf being monitored)
Same with the book for next season when his Sargent uses a bank lodgement as a distress code to let him know his crew needs him
@@ryancarroll3957 Nealy leaving a distress code was the easiest way to contact Reacher. If Joe wanted help, he would've asked for it in a more direct way than mentioning Blind Blake six months prior.

Love the acting in this scene. Reacher's clearly going through it but does his best to get the relevant information out about the latex suits but gets caught up in irrelevant personal details, and it seems like at 1:12 Finlay almost gets that they're related before it's revealed with that look that seems like he's assessing why Reacher is so emotional
It is INSANE how people once saw this guy as a dumb hunk with the acting range of a teaspoon in Blue Mountain State. Then we see him here doing the complete opposite. Which begs the question, was he just such a good fuckin actor that he sold being an idiot so well, when he has the ability to bring the thoughtfulness and extremes of a character like Reacher to life. As well as terrific on screen chemistry.
When you're smart, it's not easy playing a fool. He's a good actor.
Probably helps that Ritchson is willing to put in the work knowing this character. it's shocking how many actors jump in to play some character without bothering to know the first thing. Ritchson, on the other hand, read and studied all of the about 20 books. As someone who's read most of them, that takes some time.
He was cool as Aquaman in Smallville and Hawk in Titans as well.
Reacher is SUCH a good show and Alan Ritchson was perfectly cast as Jack Reacher.

That soft control Roscoe has over him, has hints of beauty and the beast.
Season 2 will be great but without Roscoe, something will be missing.
Maybe they'll find a way to bring her back in series 3 or 4; she was terrific.
I really liked Tom Cruise's Reacher films, but I fucking LOVED Alan Ritchson's portrayal of the character. Amazing series if you haven't seen it.

Sometimes you don't know you're going to love a show as much as you end up loving it. Can't wait for the next season. Too bad on Ritchson is the only one coming back, but I guess that's the bad of having a series based on the main character moving around.
As big as Ritchson is he's still a couple inches short as compared to the books. Still, you don't have to put him on a box next to other actors. What's funny is watching the show then watching Alan on a talk show or in an interview. The contrast between the Reacher character and Ritchson in real life is startling. ...in a good way.
IMHO, as this point Ritchson owns this character like Cavill owns Superman and Geralt of Rivia. Can't imagine anyone else playing those characters.
Yeah, Ritchson is a compassionate, good man. I think that really helps his portrayal of Reacher, because he captures goodness and kindness, as well as toughness and dangerousness, at the same time. Since Ritchson is already a good, kind man, he just layers on the cold toughness, without abandoning the compassion and sense of fair play.
... He makes for an extremely compelling teacher. I don't normally watch any shows, but I watched the hell out of Reacher.
Ive read most of the books so get the nomadic nature of Reacher is core. But even I wouldn't mind the rules being bent to somehow being Roscoe and Finley back. They were so well done in this series.

And note, strong, believable female role, fit right in.
Same with the African American. Race and gender never mentioned. But real human characters with complex story arcs.

Alan Ritchson is a great actor
This scene shows how you strong a strong female character, without having to turn her into a man, or belittling men.
This is a realistic depiction of female power. She's actually the one in control in this scene, but it's 100% believable.

This actor was the right one to play Reacher. No shade at one of my favorite actors, Tom Cruise.
This series is a great one, wish they'd made another season
They're making one. Season 2 is based on book 11, "Bad Luck and Trouble." All we know besides the book is that Reacher and Neagley will both be back (she's in the book, so that's an assumption). Sadly, it's being held up right now because of the writers and actors being on strike. But it will get there.
