This song (Armstrong's) used to make me really sad, similar to the ways Somewhere Over the Rainbow and You Are My Sunshine-do. They're songs that when taken at face value feel fairly innocuous but when are examined more closely, are felt more deeply, they hit in this really melancholy way. Then this came along and I am left thinking, in spite of all the present day troubles, yeah, it is. I still have hope and see the potential for it to be... This is such a special performance and such a reverent piece. Dear Jon Batiste, you're an alchemist and a deeply needed balm. Thank you for all you give.

I have to admit that the repetition of that one note gets under my skin. But Mr. Batiste does lighten my world.
This whole arrangement gave me the ick several times. He’s such a good musician and I wish he got a better version. Was it arranged by Ben Folds?
Butterfly and Blackbird sung in F also. It’s such a warm key and suits his style so well.
WHY IS THAT? YOU MUST BE A PRO PIANIST YOURSELF. ALTHOUGH I LIKED IT A LOT. SIMPLICITY DOES IT FOR ME IN MUSIC. SO WITH ALL THE DYNAMICS, I LIKE REPETITIONS A LOT. ELSE I GET DISTRACTED WITH TOO MUCH TRANSITIONS. DON'T KNOW IF IT'S A RESULT OF ADHD OR SOME.

A somewhat sombre beginning, but I found it reflective of a 2023/2024 world. Still a thread of hope for a wonderful world. Peace and Love☮💌
The tune is memorable. This version sounded different than the ones from Louis Armstrong years ago. It sounded totally original with a symphony orchestra in the background.
So much sincerity in this man and the whole orchestra that shines through each moment. Unbearable (to me) in January of 2024 as the world fails to stop horror in Gaza.

I've really enjoyed Jon Batiste's work. Not this time, for me. Louis Armstrong cinched this song for all time.
That is fair. I saw this as a perfect version for something like the end of a documentary either about nature or about human resilience or from birth to puberty/adulthood. I saw flashes of children laughing and playing in different places around the world, interspersed with clips of pictures of different natural phenomena like birds and butterflies migrating, salmon going upstream and little baby monkeys playing, and ending with a bride dancing with her grandfather and a groom with his grandmother on the same dancefloor. So I appreciated it for what it evoked but I would agree it probably wouldn't be me go to listen for the song, Louis Armstrong's version would be that for me

I mean, it's not an unanswerable question. I googled and saw that The Kennedy Center employees around 200 people. It's pretty unlikely that their entire workforce is illegal immigrants, so it's safe to say the correct answer was 'no, of course there are American citizens who would benefit from the funding'.
Incidentally, it also was NOT a rider. The COVID stimulus spending was a rider on an omnibus spending bill. The spending bill mostly tallied with the allocations mooted by the Trump administration, including the funding for Kennedy Center. If you have a problem with the amount of money they're getting the first place you complain should be Mar-a-Lago
