- Today AD is welcomed by Jon Batiste and Suleika Jaouad to tour their beautiful home in Brooklyn, New York. With multiple Grammys for Batiste’s album 'We Are' and Jaouad’s bestselling book, 'Between Two Kingdoms', this powerhouse couple wanted a home in which they could live and create simultaneously. After viewing close to 70 properties, it was an 1890s Brooklyn Italianate that finally felt like the One. Interior designer Hallie Goodman helped the couple create a soul-filled home, bringing together their Tunisian and New Orleanian roots in what they’ve penned the “Tunisiana” style. But what truly brought their home together was a wedding ceremony-mid-renovation, upon the return of Suleika’s leukemia, the couple tied the knot in their living room. And after a lengthy hospital stay spent scouring the web for thrifted treasures, Batiste and Jaouad’s home was finally ready for a proper homecoming. “I entered the hospital in winter. The day I was discharged was sunny and fully spring. I was weak, in need of a walker to get around, but I was so happy and relieved. As Jon and I made our way through the house, I had tears in my eyes-not just because it far exceeded our expectations. We had finally made it home.”

This had to be by far one of my most favorite episodes to date! The humor and humility of John initially drew me in, but Suleika’s story of triumph and inner and outer beauty depicted in her art sealed it for me. Their love exudes an ease and genuineness that one can feel just by watching their interaction with each other. But about their space, it really just works and I love it!!! 🧡🧡🧡🧡

Wow, this is one of the best celebrity houses I’ve ever seen. The bones of the house are clearly quality. But unlike other celebs who flex with more expensive stuff, these guys are flexing with their creativity. They literally don’t have to find someone to fix up their house because they have so much creativity coming out of them. I really appreciate the Tunisian influence throughout the entire house.

Yes! It’s remarkable how they seem to be able to be fully themselves with each other. A truly inspiring couple. What’s funny, too, is that I don’t think they FOUND soulmates in each other, but CREATED soulmates of one another - a testament to the immense love and commitment they share.

I was too mesmerized by the adoration Jon and Suleika have for one another to even focus on the house and decor.
This episode is therapeutic. Actually just watching those two is therapeutic. I'm not crying.
Theirs has got to be the most beautifully uncontrived celebrity house ever. Warm, welcoming and comfortable. Love all the repurposing. Absolute favorite part was River casually lying like a baby in Suleika’s arms on the couch.

I so love that I first looked at that chandelier and thought, wow they really are wealthy...and then I learned it was made of water bottles...it is just a vibrant, living, gorgeous, meaningful celebration of two people whose love and lives just humble me. Beautiful, beautiful.

This has to be my favorite AD Open Door! Their love is so transparent and the art and furniture have so much intention, bringing both their ideas in union. Also the significance of every piece means so much to them and is purposeful, in the art. (not just for show) It's cozy yet very lovingly artistic.
Their energy together...beautiful. Talk about two people that compliment each other. The love between them is so evident, all around them - their mannerisms with each other, the details in the house, everything. And his voice...magical.
