Hi Franco, welcome to Oregon! Unfortunately welcome to our fall weather, ocean's gotten big, and pacific storms are rolling in. If you have family here, and can time your visits, some of the best weather is late September, early October. My latest tackle venture is going to be trying to make bioplastics for soft plastic lures. Gulp lures are made from something like that, which allows incorporation of water soluble attractants, and I want to give that a try with the gelatin/glycerine bioplastics. Ever tried that? Your videos are my inspiration to try new things, so thank you for them.
Actually I did try a gelatin based soft plastic infused with fish oils...I almost got it to work but got frustrated with it before I worked out a good recipe. Good luck. Oh, and yes I'm bringing rain gear. Cheers.
Thank Franco, always nice to have options! Wonder if the de-wetting on the silver lure was because the original surface is too smooth. Maybe a light scuffing fix that. Have a great trip!
I started with 2 part epoxy yrs ago. switched to uv last year. Haven't been pleased with aluma uv lately, bought the Chinese stuff you use and same issue.,doesn't seem hard, kinda soft, tacky. Lures stays in box for 5-6 hrs. Idk. Been using 2 part again. Love your videos
Hello Franck, thank you very much for your video and review, I decided to order one to make my first try on UV resin, I ordered almost all the stuff on your amazon list for UV resin and I wondered if it would be ok if I put a lure on my usual lure turner and stand with the light over or put something who hold the light over the lure and maybe an aluminium foil under the lure, rather than making a box like you ? Thank you for your reply, keep up the good work and have a good day !
@@EngineeredAngler thank you very much for your reply, I will try that I watched your video where you show how you make your UV chamber 5 year ago, amazing, not sure I would be able to do the same, congratulations for this work, keep up the good work Cheers from New Caledonia !
@@EngineeredAngler it works good. I applied total boat UV and two spoons and I let it cure and it’s really a lot better than the other stuff is just right with what your video was I do you have to get a better life. Oh it takes a little longer for me to curate but yeah, if you have a a good light, it dries.
Hi Franco, great video as always, when using the minwax polycrylic through an airbrush, do you thin it down with anything or is it good out of the tin? Thanks, keep the videos coming 💪
Great video! I want to find a way to add a good topcoat on my lures but with a satin finish. Would I be able to achieve that by using a satin polyacrylic midcoat and then the normal UV Cure or Totalboat as the topcoat? I've had a hard time finding straight-up satin UV resin topcoats. Thanks!
Another great and informative video. I have the Total Boat UV that you use and have problems getting it to coat. Same with the Alumilite UV. What do you use as a mid coat? (I am painting over airbrush acrylics, spray paint, etc. and using 120w spotlights with a turner) I'll brush it on and turn it for a while until it looks perfect but then it comes out with blotches of little or no coverage.... Thanks for any advice you might have!!
I see you put your video out about a year ago. I wondered if over time it was more durable or scratched less, and if it stayed clear? Just wondering what your opinion of this product is now if you have one. Great video.👍
I enjoy all your videos. Thanks. I've been trying to use uv resin. I started with teexpert. 2 30 watt bulbs. After hours in the chamber comes out tacky. Put in direct sunlight for hours and still tacky. I added 100 watt light and switched to lets resin brand and still have the same problem. I've tried brushing, spraying and dipping all with the same result. I'm at my wits end. Any advice is greatly appreciated
365 to around 400. I think my compartment is too big and the lures are too far from the lights. Building a smaller one now. Thanks for the quick response.
Anyone wanting to build a uv box Quick tip Get a Flowtron bk 80d. Bug zapper 68 bucks Amazon Comes with everything you need to get started. 2 -40 watt 365 nm bulbs Just gut them and isolate zapper circuit I used 2 of them for 160 watts curing times cut in half.
I watch your videos and have learned a lot so thank you. I'm having issues with getting my lure to swim correctly. I use the same amount of resin and microballoons, and try to pour at the same temp and humidity. pretty close to the same lead blast and same position. some swim great others not so good either nosing up or nosing down. any suggestions. thanks for any help.
The problem is likely with the placement of the tie on eye. I demonstrate how to find the best placement in my swimbait build videos. Here's a playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLEVBv_zywucS1ZO97qP9EJsnqsHeNHpdN.html
I'm sure it's great but the shipping through Amazon is horrible takes about week ordered 2 bottles and it's been handed to 2 different carriers and I still haven't gotten it so m I tried to order another and the same.thing is going on so I would not buy from amazon
Thanks for giving us a try, glad you liked it!! Nice work!!
I figured it would be quality....
I really like the blood scale paint scheme
Have a safe trip. I am looking forward to your next video. I also like the blood scale paint job.
Like that “Blood Scale” paint job!
Superb review of the UV clear coat. Thanks for videoing all the tests you do to aid in educating us all. Jim Rodgers
My pleasure!

Really appreciate your channel. I’ve learned a ton from you. Thanks for what you do!
Thank you... that's satisfying to hear.
Hi Franco….Great in-depth review. When working on boats, it is said that epoxy can go over cured urethane but not the opposite. Have a great vacation.
Thanks for the info!
Hey there! Welcome the PNW. I live across the Columbia in Camas. I sent this to a friend who paints spinner blades for salmon. 👍👍
Cool.
Watching from Bermuda Island. Thanks for sharing.

Sure, you can certainly try it that way. If it sets the resin then you're all set.
@@EngineeredAngler thank you very much for your reply, I will try that

I really like the paint job. Looks like an injured fish. Or even like a Southern Red Belly Dace scheme. Only much larger.
Will have to give this stuff a try.
I just bought that. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet. I put a review on here on the comment on what I thought
Yes. Would love to know what you think.

Living in Utah I loved to fish on the Provo and Green rivers, now I spend my days 3D printing models. This resin may work out well for windows?
Informative and helpful as always! Definitely liked your blood scale pattern. I may try that one.
Have a safe, enjoyable trip.
Thank you.
nice work!
Super useful video for the projects I do, thanks for all the efforts
Thanks
thank you for this episode! awesome info!
Thank you for the feedback
Happy Halloween
You too!👻
I really like the blood scale paint job has a sort of koi fish vibe to it 👌
Me too.
Hi Franco, great video as always, when using the minwax polycrylic through an airbrush, do you thin it down with anything or is it good out of the tin? Thanks, keep the videos coming 💪
I thin it with distilled water about 15% by volume. So I add 15ml water to 85ml of Polycrylic.
Is possible the the chrome lure set to long in one position or a power outage for a few mins could have caused the sagging? Jim Rodgers
No it was some issue chemical interaction

No...you would need to find a satin finish epoxy. Or, you could coat the epoxy with satin finish clear from a spray can.

I use minwax polyacrylic

No issues with the resin I went through the bottle pretty quickly.
@@EngineeredAngler Good to know, thank you.
Epoxy needs a surface to bind. A 5000grot ( grit*) light wet sand of the lure before coating should solve this problem
Franco do you think if the Minwax is put over the epoxy then put the resin on that it would not separate. Great information thanks 4 the video!!!!
That should work fine
Thank U 4 that information
Great vid !

What's the wavelength on your lights?
365 to around 400. I think my compartment is too big and the lures are too far from the lights. Building a smaller one now. Thanks for the quick response.
I switched to kbs tired of all the lights and crap I have to go through with uv resin
Great information!!
Great video ++
Safe travels!!
Thanks! 👍
Will the total boat UV resin work directly over a rust oleum oil base paint?
I have not tried...
Very good video
Could we airbrush this resin ?
I believe so but I have not tried it.
I bet if you sand the surface, that resin won’t pull away like that. Scotch brite wheels on a dremel, or an arbor with Emory cloth. 300 grit or so.
I think urethane and epoxy just don't get along.
you have to sneak in atleast an he or two, if you dont catch who cares just take in the view, it's Beautiful up there
What did you use for your mid coat? I have the same issue with AlumiUV against straight paint.
Minwax Polycrylic
This might help

Great review
Thanks
What about UV cured polyester resin
I don't like it as much it has a really strong odor and doesn't set as hard
How are you liking this resin to date?
I like it
I know you have a video on how to thin epoxy but the chemical make up is different for this so is there a way to thin this epoxy yet?
For acrylic urethane you would have to use acetone or lacquer thinner...both are a bit nasty to use.
@@EngineeredAngler no problem I use them all the time, thanks for the reply

Hello, is the resin also good for pike bait? By the way, thanks for all your great posts :)
Sure...just give it a couple of extra coats.
When i apply my epoxy on my lure it's spreading not setting proper .why its happening..
What are you applying it over? Wood? Plastic? Resin casting? Painted surface?
This might help.
ua-cam.com/video/Z2M1_dc_r_k/v-deo.html
Is it possible to use UV resin of a 3D resin printer? Such as Anycubic UV Clear Resin? Thank you.
I think so...as long as you're the correct UV light.
@@EngineeredAngler The reason I would like to try this is that we do not have any other type of UV resin product in Turkey.
@@UzunKamis Hope all is well after the earthquakes. Pretty nasty ones too

Are you talking about a segmented swimbait without a lip? Or are you talking about a lipped crankbait?
I'm sorry I forgot to say what it was I am working on. It's a segmented swimbaits two piece.
No lip
