  • In Episode 68 of The Supply Chain Show ™, Dr. Muddassir Ahmed & Doaa Al Ghamrawi (Director Supply Chain and S&OP Leader) discussed "Supply Chain Challenges in The Middle East".
The discussion on "Supply Chain Challenges in the Middle East" covered several key points:
    - Common Challenges: Demand volatility, political instability, network design, and regulatory issues are common challenges faced in the Middle East, regardless of the industry vertical.
    - Demand Volatility: Challenges include data accuracy, sharing, and long lead times, leading to less accurate demand planning.
    - Network Risks: Challenges in transportation lead times and variability, as well as challenges in supplier management due to frequent changes in sourcing locations.
    - Regulatory Environment: Different regulations in various countries in the region make compliance and coordination challenging, particularly in industries like pharmaceuticals.
    - Distributor Relationships: Distributors hold significant power in the supply chain, and while integrated supply chain practices can help, challenges remain due to bonus structures and lack of transparency.
    - Technology: While technology like machine learning can help, it's crucial to have the right strategy, data, and culture in place for it to be effective.
    - Cultural Challenges: Supply chain in the Middle East can face cultural challenges, such as sales teams prioritizing "sell-in" over "sell-out" and the need for transparency and collaboration.
    - Future Outlook: The importance of supply chain has been highlighted by recent events, and a focus on transparency, mutuality, and integrated planning can lead to a more effective supply chain in the region.
    - Quickfire Questions: These included light-hearted questions about a supply chain mascot (Cinderella), a theme song (Supply Chain Rap), and a boss to work with (Jeff Bezos for his visionary approach to supply chain).
    - Advice: The importance of networking was highlighted, as it can help in showcasing one's skills and building relationships in the industry.
