Multitasking is an incredibly important feature. Plan into the future, see the problem and already have a solution. To be able to turn a loss into a victory.
In my view supply chain management is a broad and multi-disciplinary subject that requires a manager to have very goodcoordinating skills. This is definitely a good/ attribute of a good supply chain manager
I think communication skills (which might fall under people skills) are probably important...particularly the ability to explain what's going on to the people under (and above) you in an effective way.
Emotional intelligence is key for any job, but in Supply Chain is important since you will be working with internal and external members. No matter how good you are with business skills if you can throw everything away if you get too emotional during a discussion or a crisis
Thanks for sharing that, I met one of those extraordinary managers, and you are right on the money in my opinion. This guy would let you work and refine your skills, making you always (proactively) accountable (without discipline at all…) Respect!
Thanks for the great videos , I am new manager and working on my strategy and plan presentation , can u please help with the perfect slides to have and numbers that should be included , thanks again for the great channel
By technical do you mean they should become knowledgeable about what they manage? For example, I’m in the semiconductor industry; should I become an expert in semiconductors?
So I come by this video, possibly for a different reason to everyone else. Im very curious and determined to develop my genral knowledge and imput in all areas, which i feel like a role this plays hand in hand for me. I know you mentioned you need experiences, degrees, and people skills/understanding, but how would i start with a role like this or get the experience? To even start, or is this something, you won't get the chance unless you have a degree?
As a student your presentation are so useful to me. I am a student at centennial college in Canada pursuing supply chain and logistics mangement. This industry is new to me and always wanted to know how the job market is for new entrants. It will be great a help to me if you can suggest me some entry level jobs in this industry as a don't have any experience related to this field.
As a supply chain manager, there are a number of things that we could track. Exactly what, will depend on the type of supply chain being monitored however in a general sense the following can serve as a starting point: 1. *Inventory Levels* - You need to make sure that you have the right number of products to meet the demand. 2. *Supplier Performance* - Regularly checking your suppliers' performance can help you identify areas that can be improved. This applies to both product and service suppliers. 3. *Distribution Costs* - Understanding your warehousing & transport costs can help you optimise your supply chain and minimise your cost to serve. 4. *Customer Satisfaction* - The more you know about your customers and their needs, the better you can serve them. 5. *External Risk* - Understanding where risks to your continuity of supply may come from and developing a strategy to deal with them will minimise potential disruptions. I would add an understanding of how Buyers and Allocators operate within the specific business. How does our receiving team article match items received into master data etc.... Such a fascinatimg channel. Im an Asset Protection Senior Director for distribution and supply chain. Your channel makes me a better executive.
Agreed. I find it amazing that listening to your videos makes us more well rounded and efficient investigators when protecting our supply chain and warehouses
OK. You mean it doesn't exist? Well I have worked with people who have very high EQ and others who have zero. What ever it is or we want to call it, I think it's important 🙂

I’d certainly agree with that.
He described great qualities of leadership: stretch goals, autonomy, emotional intelligence, etc…
I'm sure we could come up with 10. But I like these 3....... 🙂
I think communication skills (which might fall under people skills) are probably important...particularly the ability to explain what's going on to the people under (and above) you in an effective way.
Yes, I'd agree with that.

Very true!
A good quality that is hard to come by now for a manager is honesty and getting to the point quickly, without excuses.
I'm not so sure. Most of the Supply Chain Managers I know are like that 🙂
For me what makes a great supply chain manager is;
Relationship management
Coordination and
Reliability
Sounds good...

Should I take a masters degree in management or one in supply chain management?
Both are good. It really depends what interests you and what type of career you want.

Sorry that went over my head 🙂 Who is secretary Pete?
@@supplychainsecrets Sorry, US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. The top guy for all things logistics.
@@sadeaton Oh OK. Most of us on here are not from the US, hence my confusion 🙂
@@supplychainsecrets No worries, I should have explained that better.
