As a dedicated float fisherman, one of the best things I learned when I was learning to float fish, is to put petroleum jelly onto your line above your float, so that the line above the float is not sinking below the water level, so that when you strike you actually have a very clean strike on your float. It is something that I have not seen you do and I have watched you miss many strikes because your line above your float sinks into the water. Good luck in your float fishing and I hope this helps you to catch more fish. Lindsay
Could you please elaborate more on the setup.. Hook type, is the float running or fixed, is there a small sinker involved etc.. thank you Roger for your content
Enjoying the videos a lot. I feel like the further south you go in nsw the rock fishing changes. Where I fish in far north nsw the waves break heavily against the rocks and its a long way down to the water. Where you fish it seams deeper and flat ledges with just wash comming over.
im really enjoying these drummer sessions. i have earmarked a couple of spots in east gippsland thst may hold them (although i dont know anyone who targets rhem here). thanks a lot. thry take chicken?
Hi Rodger, you inspired me to have a crack at drummer, mid coat NSW. Used bread and float. Got about 5 rock cod and 1 eating bream, no drummer but still good fn. Cheers from Newcastle
In South Africa we catch Bronze Bream using a three way swivel with two 60cm of mono , one attached to the sinker and the other has the hook with a small float behind the hook. The 3rd eye on the swivel is attached to the main line. Using prawn as bait, the small float keeps the bait off the bottom. This is a very effective trace to use. Bronze Bream are very similar to Drummer and its best to fish closervto the rocks where they feed.
You inspired me to chase drummer today using your float method - couple of beaches down at BP. Gotta say that it was a success - one big drummer and a trev. I think I over burleyed tho - both fish were caught on first two casts but then I got an hour of small pickers (and no hookups). Anyway thanks for the tips Rog!
they seem quite prolific! or maybe your just an ace. i didnt catch what pound braid/mono and what pound leader you are using? what size hook you are using (2.0 on method 2)? Also VIC fishing has no limit or size restrictions for this fish that i can find... thsts kind of good and bad... what is a good size fish to keep?
Caught a massive 65 cm drummer mu second time on the rocks today, sat it up in a Little Rock pool then got hit with a mini fucking tsunami and fish got swept away, it was the most cruel act of nature I’ve ever experience.
