My great Uncle drown in that river when his boat flipped. He owned a general store along it's banks. As a kid in the late 70's I visited that store which remained untouched since his passing in the 50's. My Aunt Leona still lived next door. She walked bent at a 90 degree angle at the waist from picking pecans off the ground. One day she couldn't straighten up. The store was stuffed with so many coke and other antiques you could've sold them and retired very young the problem was it was also stuffed with wasps and you couldn't get a foot in the door.

Very well done. Thanks for sharing your journey. I. Grew up just out of New Orleans and was raised in the outdoors. I am now a inshore Charter Captain at the mouth of the Mississippi River. I get to see the stuff in your video every weekend. I STILL watched your whole video and enjoyed it. The locals stories were great.

Excellent production values. I have fished that area of the basin as well as other places in it many, many times and you captured the spirit of the place and its people well. I live on Big Muddy near New Orleans and we have a large eagles nest nearby. Have seen many along the river. So good to have them back. Well done, Andy.

Thank you for sharing your incredible adventure. My kayaking so far has been limited to relatively calm civilized waters. Actually today was the roughest so far with waves coming over the bow on my Wilderness System Tarpon 120 SOT. You've inspired this 61 year old man to consider a river trip. Probably the Brazos, just west of Fort Worth. Need a crew or at least a partner. We'll see.

Great video! I was born in Covington Louisiana, lived in Waldheim. Dad got a job in Grapevine Texas when I was 9 and we moved. Fast forward 28 years....I was on a date with this gal and in making conversation she asks me “if you could move anywhere in this world where would it be...money isn’t an issue, kids aren’t an issue...where would it be?” Without questioning or giving a second thought I said “Louisiana” she kinda gave me this half cocked look and said “really....” I said “oh yeah, without a doubt in heartbeat!” Needless to say we didn’t have a second date hahaha She just don’t understand

So honestly, how much weight did you lose on this trip? I like the Atchafalaya as it's one of two rivers that flow entirely through the state to the gulf. I live along the Red, the Atchafalaya is east of us. These multi state navigable waterways are a national treasure. I'm happy to see someone beefing up our environmental protections. You captured some amazing footage there, Andy. Maybe you should put together a short and submit it to the Louisiana Film Prize.
