- A Summer 2017 journey down the Mississippi River with four retirees who share some of the history and beauty of Ol' Man River. From source to sea their greatest reward comes from the good people they meet along their 70-day journey.
i did that trip alone as a 22 year young boy, in a 16 feet canoe, from minneapolis till new orleans in 4 months, thas was in 1989. thank you for the nostalgie
Any exploits along the way?

National Geographic quality media guys. This video should have far more views. Great job!
How wonderful that he is giving Veterans those stars. If I had one, I would frame it and hang it on the wall of my woodshop. U.S. Army, Ret. Texas 1963-1983
What a wonderful production! I came across this by pure luck as I was looking for paddling tips and trips. Thank you for taking the time to put this together.
I'm 5 minutes in and already hooked! My dream is to explore America, such a beautiful land, and rivers! Love from the UK
One of the only places where you can find pretty much every terrestrial biome in the same country.

This is an awesome journey! It's been a real pleasure to watch! Thank you very much and wish all the very best. Greetings from Russia, Saint-Petersburg.
As a Quad City boy born and raised, now in Central Missouri, I was missing MY river. This hit the spot so much!
Watched a doc on the birthplace of the nile...then I wondered about the Mississippi. Wild Hogs part 2. It all made sense when you disclosed you were a news anchor. Lol great video
Hmmmm ....retired news reporter. I thought this started out sounding like a “made for tv” documentary. Lol. Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
Purple Heart Viet Nam Vet, Love to Paddle, That was an Incredible Heartwarming Journey !!! Salute !!!
Thank you for your service ❤
Great job. I feel privileged to have met you guys at Cape Girardeau MO. Excellent job of capturing this. Thanks, Ken E Keller
Great Video. While doing a day paddle on the Mississippi riverfront at Cape Girardeau MO, I noticed 2 great looking boats and 4 very scraggly looking men loaded to the gill and setting up camp at the Red Star boat landing pavilion. This video assures my bet with a friend that happened to be paddling with me that day. You all made it. Congrats. And great talking with you, Paul.
Wonderful trip. I just read Eric Severeid's "Canoeing with the Cree," about his trip NORTH from Minnesota to Hudson Bay, taken just after graduating high school.
... can't wait for the return video where you young men paddle back to Minnesota. :D
Your experiences with people along the river paralleled mine as I cycled 4,600+ miles from Portland to Boston. City or small town, people were happy to give. Was a treat to watch your journey!
Thank you for the adventure! I came across this by accident and watched the whole thing. I'll probably watch it again. This whole production was very well done. I enjoyed every second of it.
Clubbed foot keeps me from being a hiking nut but floating the Mississippi is my bucket list trip.
Greetings from Bulgaria, Europe! We watched your wonderful video and dreamed about travelling to America to enjoy the beauty of the wilderness and... the friendliness of the people.
So cool, have watched this a couple of times now, it’s a classic.
awesome job on the video. Did the river in 19' and filmed the trip as well. Its awesome to be able to go back and watch your own adventure!
As a Quad Cities native, with a love of the river, very well done. Thank you.
This is a true gift to view. Thank you for sharing!

One of the coolest videos I've seen on the tube!
Fantastic video, I'm going to show it to my family when they wake ip. There is nothing more wonderful than a good canoe trip! Subscribed.
So good, every single bit and piece of it. Beautiful!
Great documentary, Paul. I enjoyed catching your journey as it happened and I think you captured the trip extremely well. My fifth graders study sailing songs as a unit and I can assure you they will appreciate your video.
Wow! Loved it!.
Absolutely incredible! I hope to make the journey with friends someday!
Wonderful, thank you!
It was one thing to watch this unfold on Facebook; it's something else to see the stories woven together. Amazing. Thanks for sharing the journey.
Loved it Paul. Great story by a great storyteller. This country needs to see more often the goodness you saw so much of on this trip.
Your journey brought back so many wonderful memories of people and places from my kayak adventure in 2012. Thanks for the terrific story-telling and video production. Paddle boldly!

What a great adventure you guys had. I was looking around online for information about canoe's and which one might work for me when I came across your video. I'm glad I took some time to watch. I live just a few minutes away from Morgan City, LA and I can't imagine what ya'll went through to start way up there and end way down here. Congratulations on doing something that very few of us ever will!
Wonderful. Well done.
I plan to bike down from the Quad Cities to Memphis this summer.
Thank you. So inspiring.
Fantastic video! I loved watching--so well done! Thank you for making it for all of us who will never get to do this journey. Superb!
Looks like an awesome trip...Thank you for your service...God bless you all..
Excellent video. Reminded me of my canoeing days when I lived in Louisiana. My 17-foot Old Town ABS plastic canoe weighed 79 pounds but could take white water and rocks with only minor scratches, something a fiberglass canoe could not survive in. .
Certainly enjoyed that video beautiful river I learned a lot from you guys my God bless you
Awesome video, getting myself ready for the MR340 this summer and I can't stop watching videos like this!
Wow that's on my bucket list and you guys just inspired me to do it I that I was to old..in my forties...

I did over two hundred miles solo on the lower Mississippi back in the eighties. Wish I could do it again. So many wonderful memories. Lot of good folks on the river. Glad you could enjoy it to.
I hope you do susan.

Fa-nominal , Epic, Awesomeness, good on ya , guys , great to see this, restores my faith in humanity ,, much respect to you all for sharing your journey with us, who only dare to dream of doing something of this caliber , its appreciated and inspirational !!!! thank you .
Its really impressive to think how the great explorers settlers and conquerors of our past navigated these rivers, especially initial voyages which were often up stream
THIS IS AWSOME
Absolutely marvelous, Paul.
Fantastic video, professional quality, very entertaining, and educational all at the same time.
This film came up on my automatic feed after I watched " The Passage," again, a Canoe trip done by my kids, my brother and me of the inside passage along the Alaskan panhandle coastline in the same summer of 2017.
There are many chores that need my attention right now but I just couldn't stop watching Mississippi by Caone. The creativity and work needed in trying to condense such a journey into a meaningful and enjoyable hour takes a lot more time than the actual trip for anyone who may not know.
I send thanks to all of you for this enjoyable, educational and touching journey. Great job on the editing and story telling. I was hoping that the signed angel canoe paddle might show-up as the credits rolled by at the end.
Holy cow! I’ve watched ‘The Passage’ a few times and I’m sure I’ll watch it a few more. Such an inspiring film. The way your son describes the way he and his brother held your stories to legend status hit home for me. It was so neat to see you tackle that last leg all those years later. Your family’s sense of adventure has inspired me something fierce since I saw that film. Highly recommend it.
thanks paul you made my evening ,
What a great adventure gentlemen. Salute.
Superb on every level. Thank you.
Well done gentlemen.
Great River. I just watched this video from Australia during the virus lockdown on Good Friday. I was interested in the river from the great novels by James Lee Burke (who based his stories down in New Iberia). I also love to paddle and have lived on a river for 50 years. On our longer paddles we always knew to never underestimate the challenge.
Cheers
JH
I’m in my mid thirties but I sure think it would be fun to journey with those guys. I hope I can make that trip with a group of friends someday.
I'd like to do the Ohio river
Just came across this by chance. What a lovely film. Really enjoyed it. Great to see older guys doing adventurous stuff without the macho attitude of the young. And you met so many lovely people on your journey.
