- Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
- In this video it explains how to setup the relearn process for your Nissan Frontier & Xterra 2005-2019. This can include other Nissan and Infiniti models. The process explains how and what pressure to set each tire, how to ground out the TPMS plug under the dash, how to reset the system, and what happens during and after the relearn process. There is some bonus footage to explain how the TPMS system works for direct and indirect systems. Free relearn tip.
I tried this on my 2015 Nissan Frontier today and it was quick and easy and work flawlessly
Great to hear. Get the reset tool and it's even faster. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.
@@autoxadvice4159What reset tool?
@1drhnsd1 my other video has a quicker tpms setup with the tpms setup tool that I share in the vid. ua-cam.com/video/zdCyyUWY5c0/v-deo.html
Thanks for this! I just got a great deal on a 2006 with 140k miles- I paid $1600!! I just replaced the driver mirror and resister bank and window switch and next week I will come back to this video to do the TPMS sensor!
Thanks for the kind words. Glad it helps.
After 3 trips to the tire shop to fix the warning light constantly on for my 2011 frontier I used this video to fix the problem myself. They wanted me to replace 4 valves at $35 apiece. There are a couple of videos out there that talk about this hack but this is by far the clearest and most concise one out there. I watched those first and they had alot less detail and the hack did not work. While watching this one every item you said to be precise about like tire pressure and wait 1 full minute before starting the truck was what needed to be clearer. Followed this to the letter and it worked perfectly. I also got the warning buzz you mentioned on an earlier attempt and you explained why. Very good video. Thank you.
Great love to hear it. Lots of people have problems with TPMS even me 😅.
Worked for my 2007 Frontier with zero problems my first try. Thanks!
Great to hear.
Thank you so much for this video. After I had my sensors installed there was no difference. I followed your directions to the T. Even had to go back and adjust the tire pressure after the 6 second notification. After that it o ly took about a mile to do its thing. Thank you so much.
You are welcome. Glad it worked for you.
I too was skeptical after getting new sensors, however it work!!! THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES!! My 2008 Nissan Pathfinder is happy again!!!!
Once you understand the devices and how to reset them it's not horrible. However, there is a general consensus of hatred to tpms and I don't blame anyone for that. Manufacturers have done a bad job on just telling the driver what is wrong in simple terms. Like which wheel or low battery, etc. Some manufacturers are better than others but Nissan isn't great when providing data to the driver.
This hack is perfect and will save you some cash. A few notes: As he said you have 10 seconds this is important, also if you use a paper clip make sure to scuff-sand the contact points as paper clips sometimes have fine coating on them to slide better on paper. Also give your ground point a scuff-sand as well. THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT Drive for at least the 15 minutes he suggests so the computer can relearn, the light will blink then finally turn off and come back on solid lit. Put your air presser back to normal PSI and drive till the light goes out.
That's good advice on the paperclip.
Thanks for stopping by and watching.
Thank you fo sharing this great informational video! The steps you provided are spot on and worked on my 2010 Maxima. The only difference was that my TPMS port was mounted higher on the wire harness and I had to remove the lower panel under the steering wheel/ above the driver's side foot well to reach it. Not sure if other Nissan/Infiniti sedans will be similar to my experience. Keep the great tips coming!
Thanks for stopping by and watching. I suspect there are many older Nissans that this process will work for. The newer models I know don't have this kind of reset procedure.
Hey man, I’m having the same issue someone earlier had commented. As soon as you turn the key to the on position without starting the 2006 frontier the tpms light is already blinking. It looks like that what was going on in the beginning of your video too. You said it’ll blink for 20-30 seconds and then stay lit, mine does the same. What am I doing wrong?
Blinking TPMS light means the wheel sensors are not setup or ones not working.
Sensors have a life span of about 5-8 years. In that range they can become weak or their battery dies. Of course they could fail sooner.
This procedure requires all tpms sensors to be in good order. Now, if you want through the procedure once you may have to try again and make sure the air pressure is set exact (not so much as the exact lbs but the differences between all sensors.
If the relearn doesn't work while driving, about about 15min it will make an audible beep and that means it timed out.
Following this procedure in the morning, thanks for the video!
Hope that it works out for you.
In my 2019 Frontier, that white wire and connector was about 6” higher up in the dash - straight up between the gas pedal and brake pedal.
My OBD port is on the far left side of the dash.
Assuming this reset should still work. When it gets into the 2020 model I'm not sure what's in that year because Nissan did change the mhz tpms sensors for what is the 3rd Gen 2022-25. I'm just unsure if they updated the tpms sensors for 2020-2021 when they put the 3.8 into the 2nd gen.
i was skeptical after getting new wheels, tires and sensors! i followed your instructions and everything happened & worked like clockwork! thanks! any instructions for recalibrating speedometer?
I don't have anything for recalibration of the speedometer. Maybe something I can add to the list. Coming out tomorrow will be "bleeding the air out of the coolant system".
Thanks for stopping by and I'm glad this worked for you. Subscribe and you will get notified of my new videos.
I must congratulate you on your video it is very well made and explained the process perfectly
Thank you. Always a challenge making these and comments like this helps to encourage creating better content.
Worked like a champ, good info
Glad it worked out for you.
Thx for stopping by and commenting.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on tpms
Yeah no problem. Check out my other TPMS video using the cheap relearn tool.
Спасибо автору за видео. Помогло решить проблему. На Hissan Frontier 2019г
Sorry I don't speak this language. ☹️
Thank you. This would work. The other two videos I tried didn't quite work.
What I find out is that the reason this process sometimes fails is the pressure just being off a bit on one or more wheels.
The first time i wasn't too concerned about the pressure and I had to redo it. It's not the pressure psi itself it's the variation between the tire pressure.
Im curious about the Nismo boxes in the background 👀
Ha. Those were some te37x that I picked up and resold. I really 💕 those wheels.
So if I buy senors that are preprogrammed for my 2015 Frontier, all I have to do is follow this procedure to pair them with my tpm computer system?
Yes. As long as they are tpms at 315mhz.
Also check out my other video that has the electronic device to help you do the reset easier and faster
Very well done sir. Thank you for your concise explanation.
I'm so glad that you liked it. Appreciate you stopping by and leaving a comment. At this time this is my most watched video which shows me that everyone has trouble at one time or another with their TPMS system.
Hi, very good video! What brand and part number did you use for the TPMS sensors? Did they had the ID number written on them? Also, Nissan service manual says that a "new" sensor is asleep and must be activated using their tool before registering it. Is this why you have to drive around 15min, to "awake" the new sensor therefore avoiding the activation tool?
The sensors I bought were ones that you shouldn't get in which they support both 315 and 433 MHz. They came with my wheels and tires and that kind of sensor needed to be preprogrammed to use 315. My recommendation is to buy just that support 315. Note: The 3rd gen Frontier uses 433 MHz.
Yes you have to drive the truck around in the learn mode to have the sensors wake up and the computer to find all 4.
I have another TPMS video that uses a device to wake the sensors to activate then with the computer (takes 5 min to do).
What year is considered 3rd gen? Thanks
Truck in the video is a 2nd gen and uses 315mhz TPMS sensors. 3rd gen uses 433mhz.
2022+
@@autoxadvice4159 Thank you for your reply.
are you a university professor or a certified mechanic or what? this is great information
( the difference between direct and indirect systems, adjusting the air pressure, etc) but how do you KNOW that? thanks so much, I studied my owners manual and it said when and why the lights would come on, but no information about turning it off. getting it to “relearn” the system …once again, thanks!
No and no.
My official degree is IT but I've a background in construction and hold a builders license but not practicing anymore, and my father was a home designer and remodeler. I do mechanics on the side and this UA-cam channel. Because of my IT degree I have the ability to understand the technical / controls side and maintain/work on vehicles (mostly my own). I cannot explain exactly what I do but what I really enjoy is troubleshooting and helping others fix things from software, appliances, vehicles, house issues, etc. Also, I do allot of learning either reading manuals, watching UA-cam, or browsing for answers to common problems.
I'm just happy to help. 😃

I bought an old Titan that had a bad stem in valve. That light never came on and I had the guy just put in a rubber valve stem in it because he didn't do those, and the light still hasn't come on. Not sure if it's not working for some reason?
Have the tire pressure dropped below 30lbs. Some stems ate attached to the TPMS sensor and you can replace the stems.
The lowest tire pressure was the front left at 33lb. But I had them put a new rubber valve stem on right front that was leaking unless you played with little stem to stop it. It was over 2 weeks ago and nothing has lit up. I just figured it would if I had a reg. valve stem in it. @@autoxadvice4159
I just purchased one of the TPMS relearn tools that you covered in another video...Thanks for that one. What is the low tire pressure tripping point 30 psi? I have done the grounding out operation in the past to reset the system and I made a wire / switch to facilitate the six time tapping to ground. The hardest part of the operation is to wiggle upside down to find and tap into the tpms wiring harness. I am considering stripping back the white wire and placing a small plug like a headphone plug that would make connection to my switch wire tool. What would be easier is if I could find the appropriate plug that just snaps into the white wire tpms harness. Any ideas if that is available?
Thanks for watching.
I don't think you could ever find the right plug adapter to snap into the tpms plug end under the dash. What would be easier is to get yourself a push button. Tie one end into the tpms wire under the dash to one connection on the push button. Tie the other connection on the push button to ground. When you push the button it would then ground it out. You could then put the button anywhere that is convenient. Maybe I create a video for that. 😅
@@autoxadvice4159 I save a lot of electrical connectors for projects. I will just need to look around before I strip back the white wire and add an additional connector. I used a momentary lever type switch as the mechanism to make the 6 time contact and it has worked easily for me.
Yeah, whatever type of connector works best for you.
I bought some wheels that has tpms sensors on them. Came off a 19 Tacoma.. would I be able to program to my 16 frontier? Thanks
The sensors need to be 315mhz for the Frontier 2nd gen 2016. I looked up what the 2019 Tacoma would be and those too are 315.
With that said, the TPMS sensors could be missing or dead so you may go through the procedure and not have them work.
try since they came with tpms. Hopefully I can save some money and not have to switch mine over or get new ones from the shop. Thanks for the help. I’ll let you know if it does work
@AlexSagisi - food luck, hope it works out for you.
Which sensor did you buy for your Frontier...Nissan Upro TPMS Sensor Set??? Model # please
I bought dual mhz sensors which i won't do again. They take a special to to set them up. I recommend just going oem, a very reputable company with fix reviews or from a tire shop. 315mhz is what you need.
I have a 2013 Nissan frontier with the aluminum wheels. Is there a TPMS sensors that you recommend buying? I want to make sure they fit the wheels I understand they’re 315 MHz.
So many different ones available on the Internet
Thanks, Steve i
I truly don't have any recommendations. Just don't do what I did and buy dual MHz sensors unless they can be easily programmed without a special tool.
Best bet is to find straight 315mhz and pray they last.
@@autoxadvice4159 I finally ordered some probably paid a little bit more than I should. But they are strictly 315 MHz and are supposed to be exact replacement for the Nissan frontier. Thank you for your reply.
@stevethomas7422 sure thing. Hopefully they work out for you.
Great video how do i find that wire on a 2016 Nissan Maxima
Though my video applies to the Nissan Frontier and Xterra other Nissan models may or may not have the reset plug and may have a button on their dash. Id first check the owners manual as my quick search on Google showed a button to the left of the steering wheel. That may or may not be accurate but your manual should tell you.
Not related but I got a 2011 pathfinder srs code 24 what should I check and look for
ua-cam.com/video/cHB1EABK6r0/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Try resetting it by this means.
Will this work on an 07 Nissan Pathfinder? Thanks for the video!
It should if it has the reset plug under the dash. With that said you need to make sure the batteries in sensors are good.
@@autoxadvice4159 got it and thank you 👌
Sure thing
How important is it to set the tires to those specific pressures?
It's not so much the exact pressure but the differences between the pressures. First time I wasn't so accurate with the diff in pressure and it did not work. Did a more accurate pressure 2nd time and it worked.
i had new rims and snow tires put on and my TPMS light is not illuminated. I was expecting this since I was told that TPMS sensors were not installed. Do Frontiers light not illuminate if sensors are missing?
It will take awhile for the light to come on. It's not instantaneous. So driving around more the 30 min without sensors or new sensors will trigger the light.
Worked like a charm, thank you,,
Thanks for stopping by.
I have tried this twice and keep having the same problem. I put the lower air pressures in, I successfully do the reset with the paperclip, it starts blinking and after 20 minutes of slow or fast, driving it finally just turns solid. I refilled the truck back up with 35 all around and the light never goes off.
Are any of the sensors dead (how old are they)? If they are all newer 1/2 years old and you're confident they are good, then the issue maybe you didn't pay to close to the lbs numbers. It's not so much the exact lbs but the differences between the tires. So if each tried varied too much or you didn't have 4 unique pressures then it's going to fail.
See my other video using a TPMS sensor device as well as that process is easier and you will definitely figure out if you have a dead sensor.
In 2020 Nissan changed the TPMS. Also there is no separate wire starting in 2020. 2019 and prior TPMS will not work with 2020 and newer.
TPMS relearn on 2020 and newer can only be accomplished via OBD. Got this from Nissan.
Thanks for this data. Though not surprising. I don't quite understand that prior TPMS will not work on the newer models. The actual sensors look to be the same (40770-3AN0D) meaning that the actual sensor would be interchangeable but not the resetting part.
It will be interesting to get my hands on a 2020 service manual and or wiring diagram as I suspect that they are using the old TPMS computer but just moved the reset wire to ODB connector. Will see.
I have updated my thumbnails to reflect the years 2006-2019.
So this is something that goes wrong often? Mine used to go on sporadically and now it is on all the time. My tires are worn, but the pressure is fine and they are not losing any air.
Sounds like the battery in one of more of them have gone dead. You will have to take them in to any tire shop to get them replaced. There they will reset the light too. You could replace it yourself but you have to un bead the tire.
tried everything nothing.. but i do have a slow leak in one tire.. can it be the sensor leaking?
If any of your sensors are 5-10 yrs old they may be dead or very low on battery. If the air is not staying in the tire long enough as you drive around it could cause the process to fail too. Id get the leak fixed and see if you can get the shop to check the sensors for life.
@@autoxadvice4159yeah it's an 05 frontier.. thanks brother..going in Tuesday to see
No problem. If you haven't changed the TPMS sensors since 2005, then they are due.
hi just a question sir..
where can i found the reset wire on 2014 pathfinder? i checked under the obdll there is no white wire or clip hanging... thanks
This should work for you (even though it says 2015. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for stopping by and asking a question.
To reset the tpms on the 2015 nissan pathfinder make sure the tire pressure is correct, then turn on the vehicle. now hit the reset button that is to the right of the steering wheel and wait ten minutes. in some cases you may need to hold the button down till the light flashes.

Could that light be indicating something other than the tire could it be use as a second source for another problem.just curious.
The TPMS light only would illuminate if tire(s) are low or the tire sensor(s) cannot communicate with the TPMS system.
What issues are you experiencing?

@@autoxadvice4159 Right now it the code p0430 but I had an issue with the emissions I change the canister valve and the regulator valve on the engine but no engine light came on but now it's on I'm thinking that the p0430 code was giving me problems but no engine light came on I will keep you in mind after I change this and let you know thanks for your hey
@@dcruz125 P4030 could be a bad CAT or 02 sensor. It could be some other issues like too much/too little gas, bad spark, intake leak, etc. Quick check for a plugged cat would see if it's red hot underneath or use a digital thermometer between a good cat and the bank 2 cat.
@@autoxadvice4159 ok thanks so much
@@dcruz125 what does that have anything to do with tpms sensor?
Tried it 4 times but it didn't work. Then I realized, these numbers aren't separated by 3lbs each. 34, 31, 29 and 26 should be 34, 31, 28 and 25. Once I used those pressures, worked 1st try. One more note, I have a 2008 Xterra and it doesn't report "check tire pressure". It only shows the light. Once it was reset, it began blinking. I drove it a few miles and the light went from blinking to steady red. Once the pressures were set to normal, I drove it a short while and the light went out.
On your point of the dash not showing the TPMS message. I learned that top end models like the SL and P4X have it where as SV and S do not. So that is a good point you made that I missed in the video.
@@autoxadvice4159 thank goodness for your video. Without it, we were sunk. Thanks for posting it...
You are welcome.
The combination of tire pressures is not needed. Just shorting the connector will work.
I had not found that to be the case. It's the right combination that has worked. If that would have been the case (at least for me) is that it would have accepted the process every time. However, there had multiple cases where the process timed out and I had to start over.
Maybe you can explain how you have gotten it to work before and I could test that.
Does the tire pressures u need differ depending on what model Nissan you have.. I have a 2013 Nissan juke
I'm not sure about the Juke but i could only suspect that Nissan wouldn't differ too far in their TPMS design. If you think about it the TPMS engineering is pretty much completed when you get it working for one vehicle.
Try this process for the Juke and let me know if it works.
I'm working on an upcoming video where I can read the sensors through a radio reciever for diagnosis, just so I can explain a bit more on how TPMS works.
Thanks for stopping by and watching.
Does this work if i have different size wheel and tyres?
The tpms system is totally independent of the wheel and tire size. For tpms sensors to work they need to be 315mhz and have enough battery power for them read and connect to the tpms computer (under the dash).
Hope that helps and thanks stopping by and leaving a comment.
My tmps light comes on when ignition is on and flashes for a while then stays on solid light after 30seconds , I’ll give this method a try and see if it works….just like you said in the video if it flashes and goes solid after a while it means it working but just needs a reset
I suspect you have a tpms sensor that is dead with it flashing light and then staying solid. You can try this out but don't bet on this procedure working. Good luck and thanks for stopping by and commenting.
My goodness I want to thank you, because I've would've been the person paying the$200 to a mechanic. Now if you could clone yourself and mail yourself to my home, that'll be great. I will cook you a nice dinner. Again thank you 🙂😊🤛🤛👍
Your words are too kind. 😄
I’m wondering what you mean it will start flashing, mine starts flashing the instant to turn ignition on, and I can’t tell whether I grounded it or not until it stays solid, and at that point I know it didn’t ground . Can’t figure it out. Someone help?
Turn the vehicle to start do not turn the vehicle on. Then go and ground out the connection six times and that will start the light flashing and you start the reset process.
If i install fresh sensor. Same way will work?
You have to watch out for new sensors and make sure they don't require setup with a special tool. For instance I purchased non Nissan sensors that that can be set for 315mhz and 433mhz and requires the company proprietary scanner to do this.
If you buy the nissan 315 mhz sensor this procedure will work.
Thanks for stopping by and watching the video.

Worked on my '14 Armada on 3rd try, had to lower tire pressure a few lbs 👍
Yeah getting the pressure just right isn't an exact science. See my other video of making it a lot easier with the tie pressure reset tool.
I did the steps you showed and had to drive almost 20 mins and light went solid. Went home shut it off reinflated tires the next day and drove. Light is still on solid. Check with my Solus scan tool, no codes but says registration of sensors not complete.. Any suggestions?
On this free relearn method you must set the tire pressure to the amount I mention in order for this process to work right. I had to run the process a couple times just to make sure I had things setup right. I'd try and go through it again as it sounds like your TMPS sensors are good because the light is solid and not blinking.
The easier method is this with the reset tool.
ua-cam.com/video/zdCyyUWY5c0/v-deo.html
Same thing is happening to me... Staying solid after the relearn. All tires are inflated to 35 psi. Were you ever able to figure it out?
The plug that you ground out is not there on a 2021 Frontier
That's not surprising as its a new engine, transmission and wiring. Can you take a picture of the underside the dash and post it somewhere so I can look at it.
Trust me it’s not there. Took the lower dash apart.
I realize that the white connector may not be there but will a picture I could see if there was something else I could identify. Since I don't have the service manual for that year (not yet).
Found a few other posts. Same results as mine.
Ok I'm going to be checking around. I highly doubt they changed the tpms main control. I suspect that reset connection is somewhere. Either it's integrated into another connector somewhere.
Some cars have a physical button to reset and I looking into the 2020 owners manual and there is no mention of a button added to the dash area.
