Hellebores r great plants, some of mine r in the sun and they still do great. Just clean them up in spring and add fertilizer. In the fall I put compost around them. That's it. Enjoy.

In Europe the leaves never get so frost damage as the ones you show.

it's not just frost. Look up "weather modification". All plants are subjected to rapidly changing weather which causes all kinds of problems for them.
