So beautiful! I've loved hellebores ever since I lived in the PNW and discovered them. My Mom and I love the NE Redbud, I sent her a bunch of seeds one year from my tree. She planted them and forgot about them until a redbud stick shot up. That redbud tree is now five feet tall and has done amazing in CO, the cutter bees just love the leaves! Great video on hellebore!

Hi neighbor! I’m in Freehold NJ. I too discovered hellebores this year. Well. Actually I had one that was given to me in a mail order and I threw it in the ground under an Oakleaf hydrangea. I never really paid it much attention. In fall I moved it to a sunnier and more prominent location and wow. What a show! Wish I had more than 1. Would be interesting to learn how to divide them. Thanks for your content. Really enjoy your channel!
Hi John, waving at you from southern NJ! 👋 I just saw the photos of your Hellebores on Instagram - very pretty! Since this is my first full year with my Candy Love Hellebores, I don’t have a need to divide them. But from what I understand, dividing in Fall seems best, since the temperatures will be slightly cooler and the new plants will have time to get established in cooler temps before Winter. Some gardeners will divide them after the flowers are finished instead, which could mean in May. Either way, they will need lots of water so they don’t dry out until they settle into their new spots. It sure will save money - Hellebores are expensive! 🙂🙃

Hi Annie, it’s worth ordering them online if you can’t find them at your local nursery. They are usually sold in nurseries in early Spring, when blooming already. Most are hardy to zone 9. There are so many beautiful varieties you can order online. I just did a video about perennials rabbits hate, and in that video I discuss Hellebores and show some of the many varieties there are. Maybe that will give you some ideas. 😀🌸
Hi Joy, I bought them at Hands Garden Center here in Little Egg Harbor last year. However, I was just there yesterday, and they had several types of Hellebores for sale, including these! I’m off to Bob’s Garden Center south of me this morning to see what Hellebores they have. (And it’s only 37 degrees!)
@@SunrayStar Well, originally I thought that Hellebores just "looked" too difficult to grow. Not because of anything I read, but rather because there were so many varieties, and I knew that some gardeners collect them. I'm glad to have learned how wrong I was! 😀

You definitely need a flame thrower redbud with orange, red, yellow and green leaves all summer long! I bought a couple last year and cannot wait to see what they will look like again. Thank you Chris! 😊 I know, I know -- the redbud stick is hilarious, isn't it? 🤣 It's an "Appalachian Red" redbud, and was sent to me as a bareroot plant. I already got a refund on it last year, because it barely produced leaves -- but -- I left it in the ground. I'm hoping it will grow -- talking to it all the time, encouraging it, you know: general crazy garden lady stuff! 🤣 Yes, I've seen the Flame Thrower Redbuds and those leaves are gorgeous! Let me know what the Spring flower color looks like this year!

Thankfully I have wonderful neighbors or someone would have called a psych unit to report there’s a crazy lady talking to plants LOL. Absolutely so hopefully the neighbors enjoy it as well :). I truly believe that just like people, all nature and animals respond so well to love and care…… I feel it’s so important to talk to people that share our passion like gardening because I have friends who come over and love the gardens and can talk about plants forever, and others who don’t even notice them or will say it’s beautiful but I have to remember that doesn’t mean they want all the details 😂😂😂. All I can say is if I were in your gardens we would need at least 24 hours to talk about everything I see 😂. I hope you have a great rest of your weekend. I woke up to snow again so I couldn’t do anything outside but yesterday I raked some leaves and……… the daffs are sprouting yayyyy!!!!
I know what you mean. One time, in a friendly gathering, someone asked me about the Leyland Cypress trees I had just planted at the time. As I was answering this person, another person impatiently asked, “Why can’t you just call them evergreens like everyone else does?” 😳 Nice, right? My husband and I still laugh about it privately! 🤣 I love to talk about plants! As for your snow, we went from 60 degrees down to 37 today, with temps going down to 22 over the next few nights. Brrr! Glad your daffs are showing up! 🌼
Thanks Mary! The Hellebore flowers will eventually -- after months and months of beautiful blooms depending on your zone -- eventually begin to die off. As they do, the stems usually begin to shrivel up and die back on their own. So, you could cut those stems off, but usually by that time any new tiny leaves have grown out nicely and cover those stems up. But sure, if you want to cut those stems off, go for it! 😀
Thanks for your question! Hellebores are sold primarily in the Spring here in the US, for Spring planting. You could also plant them in Fall. For most perennials, avoid the heat of the Summer to plant, otherwise anytime in Spring or early Fall is fine. I hope this helps! 🙂
Last Spring I found these at my local nursery, in large containers which was a nice surprise! I think they have some this year in smaller containers -- I need to go investigate! I'm seeking out Pink Frost Hellebores as the next ones I want to plant in my front center garden bed, in the shady part. Those will probably have to be purchased online, as I doubt I'll find such a particular variety in person, and probably will be in smaller containers. (I know you're not a fan of online that much.) And yes I hope the redbud stick has blossoms this year, and not just one or two! 😀

Mine bloomed in March. I planted last Fall. They are thriving.

This was a good video. I do have a question, so we don't ever cut the flower stems off? Just the leaves?
