Thank you for the video, Ryan. You explained things well and now I know what I've been doing wrong. Do you have any suggestions on how to avoid getting foosball elbow?

I'd say always warm up slowly... and even purposely do your shots slow and efficient as possible. It can help to do the stroke without the ball a handful of times and find a stroke that doesn't hurt anything. If you're still having pain, I'd practice some 5-row and ball control drills rather than continuing to aggrivate anything that hurts from shooting too much. Hope that helps, good luck.

Thank you for the tips, Ryan. I've been watching some pro-play to see how they grip the rod when they do pull shots. I just thought that maybe I was holding the rod wrong or doing the flicking motion wrong.

Thanks for the video. I have shot the pull for 3 years, but lately have been frustrated with my (lack of) consistency in hitting the long. I am either making the shot or spraying it to the wall. I am curious if my grip is the problem. I have a grip that is more like T. Loffredo, where I have my palm flat on the top of the handle bar, yet placed over the back two inches of the handle bar. The center of the my palm covers the edge of the handle bar.
If this is not a concern, then perhaps I need to address the muscle memory, by doing more repetitions in light of your drills. I would appreciate any feedback!

+Thomas Conlon sounds like your grip is correct. Tough to know without seeing the shot in slow mo... But here's 2 things... 1.. whenever I'm struggling with in if my shots or passes.. I work through it with doing it over and over in slow motion and making sure I'm doing exactly what I want... It doesn't even need to be with a ball. Then once using a ball, slowly speed it up over and over... But with still trying perfect technique. Another thing I often use to do is tape my shot in 120 or even 240 fps on the GoPro and watch it in slow motion to see how the mechanics of it looked. If you have that capability I'd recommend! Best luck!

You say you don't use the pull shot in real games ... do you ever switch it up to throw someone off (like, if they are consistently blocking rollovers)?

+byronathon I don't. I take the approach that there's always a good part of the goal open and even after numerous blocks, I just have to figure out what will be open and when... Maybe it includes more of shooting 1 dots on both sides rather than all the way out, or really focusing on a specific side or middle. I'd think most of the top pros would agree with this logic as I rarely see the top masters change up to a completely different shot... But I do see rookies and ams do that all the time.. but in my opinion that's why all of thier shots end up being mediocre rather than deadly. Same with passing. I have a far wall series I love practicing, but if I feel I have to resort to that, it's simply cuz I'm not putting in focused effort on the nearside. (That said I love using it on pick-up games in which the results don't matter and I've even had success with it against some of the top players in the World)... But for a consistent very high level game... It's should usually be doing what you've practiced the most. Happy foosin and check out my new foos channel if you haven't seen it! Only a couple vids but search for the username nextlevelfoosball and hopefully you can find it.

Gotcha ... have you ever heard of/seen someone do a roll-over from the backline?

Yup, more of as a 'funsy' shot tho. In general you lose too much of the potential area you can quickly shoot
from vs a shot like a pull or push. Plus good rollovers often lift and catch air and hit the rods when its shot hard on the 2-row. On the 3-row its not nearly as much of an issue.
