Today we install the Alta Performance short shifter adapter onto the 2018 Type R! It's a process to get all of the panels off, but it is 100% worth getting it done. Once the short shifter is installed, it's like a totally new gear box!

Just installed it today and I adjusted the adapter to it’s lowest, shortest setting. Now it’s the same short throw I had in my 04 STI with the Kartboy short shifter. I did have the whiteline gearbox bushings with it also. It’ll allows me to shift faster, down shift better with confidence it’ll be going into each gate. This improves drivability tremendously. Best mod so far!

Just a little bit of helpful advice, as someone who has installed a lot of these short shift adapters on Civics this gen and of past, I highly recommend you put some type of tape over the Allen screws that tighten themselves along the ball/shaft of the original shifter connection point. They will eventually unscrew themselves over time due to vibrations and general shifting use. You can also use something like thread locker blue if your so inclined, but the non messy way IMO is just some simple tape wrapped around it twice over, it will keep them in place and prevent them from vibrating loose. If you don't do this, in a month or two from now, you will find that the shifter doesn't go into gear smoothly and may completely bind up because the ball that connects to that weird connection to the linkage has loosened up and fallen out and it's not engaging the gear correctly. Anyways, love the videos, keep up the great work! Hopefully I'll get myself a Type-R in the future.
i was actually thinking of that. When i go back in to do the shifter lock, i'll do that!
Thomas from Alta told me this" No this shouldn’t happen, we’ve used a similar design for another part for a long time with out any issues. It’s a clamp design, so when you tighten the screws down it holds pressure on the screws both ways."

You should do segments of fitness, think it will do better for the channel. How to meal prep, what’s macros ect. That shifter bushing goes on the top of the transmission underneath the shift cable. Thanks for the content Dustin!

Just ordered one. I used to do car audio installations so removing the center console shouldn’t be an issue as long as I make sure I don’t break or loose any clips. It would’ve helped others how some panels needed to be removed by lifting up or straight out, screw locations which you did mention.

Hey man not sure if you'll see this but since your WRX isn't considered totaled, I don't know if you were planning on doing a short shifter on it when you get it back but I do want to say it is a major pain definitely harder then the civic here. But I do very much recommend a Boomba Shifter I have enjoyed mine quite a bit for awhile. Just thought I would throw this out there

for stuff like this ALWAYS try to find color instructions. Something I wish manufacturers would do is add color instructions. I was installing a whiteline strut mount on my STi and couldn't figure out the bracket for the AC lines. As soon as they sent me color instructions it was done in 30 mins!

I can’t see how it would sit lower than stock when the only thing you’re changing is the cable mount below the shifter pivot, unless you had a smaller shifter knob. Should’ve test driven it with the console all out though cos you would’ve been kicking yourself if you had to take it apart again!!

Have you noticed the clunk without having the shifter cable lock down? If you’ve already installed it has it removed the clunking issue if you even had it after the adjustable short shifter install? I think stock is still long for me compared to the short shifter I installed on my 04 STI.

IMO not the best thing to do with the CTR gearbox as it comes standard perfectly and too short shifts don’t help driving experience, engagement and performance for me...

For a short shifter? No, it’s a driver mod. Just makes the car feel better and adds a shorter throw
