I was looking for this recipe since you always talk about it in your recent videos and vlogs and it was just crazy to see the before and now difference in your videos. You and Joe have come such a long way. Keep up the amazing work you too! xo
Throw your garlic in cold olive oil so garlic has longer time to infuse while the oil heats up
Steeping garlic in olive oil is super chill.
You rock. My mom died a few years ago but forgot the recipe. You filled me with the missing ingredients and cooking time. Ty
She's right that it shouldn't be blanched before sauteing. The slight bitterness is what makes it go so well with chicken and sausage.
THROWBACK!!!! Great recipe as always, Laura! You rock!!!
Thank you Laura! I just made the broccoli rabe the way you described along with barbeque hot sauage and Italian bread. My wife and daughter(who is a student at a culinary college) loved it. You are a joy to watch and learn from.Frank
I'm so glad I watched this before trying to cook this vegetable for the first time! Thanks Laura, for the excellent demo. I'm going to go try this right now. :)

Thank you for standing up for this unique wonderful veg. It’s bitterness is reminiscent of radicchio.

They should dump Rachael Ray and give you a show on how to cook at home.
Why they are both awesome
Wow, throw back! I followed you ever since, so happy how far you came in such a short amount of time😘
Hi Laura, I prefer your method without boiling it first. It's just easier doing it your way. I was just watching a couple of other videos and I was like PFFFF! Thanks Laura!😊
It's weird not seeing her use the pepper thing
Thanks Laura , you've been verrrrrrrrrrry helpful , it's my first time going to cook it , and I'm sure it's gonna come out real good , God bless you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💯💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️
That k you so much Laura. I love, love, love broccoli rib, but wanted to learn how to prepare it myself. You made it so simple and easy😄😄🤗
I followed this recipe to make my first attempt Thank you Laura
Soooo YUMMY!! I never Broccoli Rabe, but love broccoli. So, absolutely going to try this recipe. Gotta say, it's a little weird way back when, you didn't do taste test after you finish cooking...Lol I have learned so so much from you. Thank You Laura. Arlene
This is the best video on UA-cam, hands down
I just tried your recipe, excellent result , delicious, easy to make, thank you
So much has changed, Laura! Your kitchen and your make up.
I have NO idea how I got here, nor have I ever heard of this...but I like it a lot!
+Money Mark LMAOOO Its a green vegetable popular in Italian and Portegese dishes .. If you buy it and see yellow in it Don't buy it .. should be all green
I watched a bunch of videos on broccoli rabe before I got to this one and I like yours the most. I love the bitterness! Why would I want this to be less bitter?
That's the way to do it Laura! You got it going on. I'm going to put this Rabe on top of some roasted pork loin with some smoked provolone and make myself a delicious pork sandwich for lunch. Keep up the good work!
As always great video!
That is exactly the way I make it! I'm actually making it tonight...
I just tried your broccoli rabe , the best thing I ever ate. Oh how flavorful and delicious!
Thanks for this great lesson Laura. I made this last night and it was incredible.
Absolutely! Broccoli rabe is a bitter green. Say. No to boiling. Great Video. Thanks.
Love it. Watching in 2017. God bless.
Thanks for posting this.
In Canada we call this vegetable what they call it in Italy: 'rapini'. Rapini is an amazing vegetable. Try rigatoni or penne with rapini, sausage and fresh ricotta. And of course some of those amazing little peppers. Delicious.
I use the Italpepe brand of peperoncini. Maybe you can order some from their website. We get them here, surely in the States you can find them.... buona fortuna !
Broccoli rabe makes me very happy. Thank you!!!!!
Helpful insights on broccoli rabe, thanks!

Great Chef :) Vitale!
Leria Figueroa if you think she speaks with an Italian accent, you’ve never heard one..., it’s a Philly & New Jersey accent combo...
Thanks Laura!

Do you like broccoli rabe?
Yes, I love broccoli... but my name isn't Rob!
Laura, thanks so much for this video!
laura lichtey
TFS, trying this right now :) looks delish!
That intense bitterness is the whole point of broccoli rabe. Not sure how anyone could miss that.
Thanks
Keep up the great work
Good girl for pointing out that rapini is SUPPOSED to be "bitter" and that it doesn't need to be blanched. However, the stalks are delicious too, but they take longer to cook. So I cut them up in pieces and start sauteing them first, and then I add the leaves.
Yes it is a bitter green and it is my understanding that it is in the turnup family. I use every little bit because it is quite pricey and the stalks are very flavorful. If the stocks are a bit large I will take a vegetable peeler and remove a bit of the outer layer. Happy cooking
i love it
every supermarket does not carry broccoli rabe. had to go to wholefoods
Like you said...., perfect laura !😘
this is the video where the high-pitched "hi guys!" began.
laura, just one question. does the type of pan matter to the process?
Can you do an updated version of this?
Love this girl😍
It Looks yummy-trying it tonight-Good Friday....I also have to remark on her wedding/engagement ring! OMG! HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THAT AND THE COST???CURIOUS!
grazie
@pyropls yes she is
finally somebody does it right!!!
me three!!
What kind of pot/ pan are you using here?
Try boiling b. rabe for 3 to 4 mins if there to bitter for you.
Is there any way to provide recipes without having to join instagram?
Does it taste like collard greens?
Oh my gosh episode 2??
Wait Laura, you’re from Philly?!
SORRY TO DISAGREE WITH YOU ….BUT I JUST STEAMED MY RABE STALK AND ALL FOR TWO MINUES THEN REMOVED AND PUT IN POT WITH GARLIC AND OIL ONE MINUTE……..DELICIOUS
Watching in 2020
so 'broccoli rabe' isn't regular broccolli? It's some other variety?
Yes, its very different
Hello, it is my understanding that broccoli Rabe is not in the broccoli family at all although the florettes resemble broccoli somewhat. I’ve been eating broccoli Rabe for many many years and enjoy it the way they cook it in Bari Italy and that is with sausage,Orecchiette pasta with red pepper flakes and fennel seed. Yum Yum. If you enjoy turnips then you will enjoy broccoli Rabe. I believe it is in the turnip family as it is sometimes noted as turnip tops. Happy cooking.
I like to jus saute it in olive oil no added water. i find the water makes it very mushy n takes away from flavor. i like the bitterness! its rapini for goodness sake!
I hate broccoli but looks so good
ok, we're making this now.
This is Jeff's wife writing this: Something happened to your sound at minute mark 3:08. Yell at the camera-person. lol Please. That would be fun to hear, especially if it's your husband. Sounded like he was eating the mic.
Love ya Laura! (:
@EatingMuffin yeah congrats this is not broccoli. i am confused by your comment. since brocoli and broccoli rabe are not the same exact thing.
My grandmother is turning over in her GRAVE !!! learn how to clean & cook broccoli rabe !!!
Or maybe your grandmother understood that cooking is an art and is open to interpretation. With all due respect to your grandmother, who I'm sure was a wonderful cook, who wants to cook a dish the same way she did it or the next person does it? I sure don't. I like making a dish MINE. I'm watching Laura cook this, but I'm already thinking about what I'm going to do differently to suit MY taste. That's cooking.
***** Sorry no--it is not so much the way she cooks it--it is the way she cleans it--what a waste--Italians as most Europeans don't waste food--That is what she is doing--The stem should be slit with a knife into quarters & not removed from the leaves or tops--That will insure the proper cooking time of entire Broccoli Rabe plant--As for cooking yes steaming & sautéing in garlic & extra virgin with crushed pepper is correct except I use fresh hot peppers I buy in the same produce place sliced into pieces--As far as cooking Broccoli Rabe differently How--Garlic--extra virgin & hot pepper are perfection for this veggie
I understand your point better now Susan.
The best parts are the stems.. I disagree with her she wasted all that food 🤨 she made it look like spinach!
que bonita
she's so different in episode 3!
Buon laboro!!
♥♥

No offence but I hate spicy food, I love your videos though!
and here I am complaining about strawberries..
thumbs up if you're watching this while eating grapes
Laura.....You are soooo cute!!!! I would love to have a wife like you bambina bellaaaa!!!! P.S. Love your food!
No boiling for couple minutes to get bitterness out..call yourself Italian lol
Not necessary! My mother always made it like this. The bitterness is characteristic of this dish. I still remember how good they were in sandwiches!
