  • A chunky A5 rings planner, great for sitting pretty on your desk, wide open with all your juicy goals and plans clearly staring up at you, but not the most convenient thing to lug around, which brings up the age old dilemma of how to have your important dates and tasks to hand when you're out and about.
    We'll cover:
    - Some options for having your plans on-the-go
    - Which option I decided was the best for me to try and why
    - As well as my wins and woes after week road-testing my choice
(This is a follow-on from my previous video/rant about the dilemma: • HELP! The big planner ... )
Current Planner: Moterm Luxe A5 Cream Croc (preloved from a Buy Sell Trade Facebook group).
Other planners shown: Filofax Malden, Personal size in Stone (preloved from eBay); Loius Vuitton Small Ring Agenda Cover in Damier Ebene Canvas (preloved from eBay).

Great video. I am new to planning and have been wondering about these exact ideas. Thank you for helping me. I presently have an appointment planner.

That was my comment! I still use a tote bag. It holds my lunch and water bottle etc too

I do most of my planning during my commute, and my main calendar/diary is in my pocket Filofax, which comes everywhere with me. I have a larger notebook for note taking and more detailed planning, which I only carry if I think I’ll need it. I carry a backpack which is bigger than your handbag, but much smaller than your tote bag. I am setting up an A5 filofax to keep at home, to record things like my sewing projects and garden plans. I also intend to keep a back up of my appointments in there, which I will update once a week as part of my planning routine - just in case my little Filofax gets lost.

I have the A5 on my desk at home. I use the pocket as you do, in my small bag. During the week I have a tote that generally remains in my car at all times with miscellaneous items that I may need while out (comb, lip balm, sunglasses, lotion, etc). I use the same small purse as you with the pocket planner. However, when I write a future event date in the pocket planner (I have an event planner business and a 9to5 job outside the home) I note it on my phone calendar immediately or when I do my planning for the next day it goes into my future months that are in my A5. I also highlight all important event or to do items in my pocket planner. I truly enjoy your videos. I appreciate the functionality of your method of planning. Blessings to you.

Thanks so much for watching and for the tips on how you manage the pocket + A5 setup! I think, as you've alluded to, it's all about being meticulous with logging and highlighting things.

Hah! This is a very timely video as I'm currently driving myself round the bend over what to do for best. I downsized to a Personal at the end of 2023 because I commute by bus and trying to lug the work laptop plus an A5 planner wasn't working. But I still gravitate towards A5 for notes and I really want my planner to be both a diary/schedule and a notebook. The 2-planner solution doesn't really work for me and I'm itching to go back to A5 but still trying to work out how to make it possible. Add to that the need for fountain pen-friendly paper (and I am so fussy about my paper!) and the fact that I'm convinced I should be retired from work by now and this shouldn't be a problem any more....

Another option is to take pictures of the planning sections of your a5, and then group them together by month/week etc on a notes app. I use Google Keep, but I'm sure there are other apps that could work perfectly for this as well. When adding todos, I simply write them underneath the pictures. At the end of the day, I move all new todos over to my a5, without worrying that I might miss some todo as they were all written in specific places. It might not work for everyone, but it's something that one could consider if the other options don't work for them.

Hi ! I take a little planner for my "on the go" and yes, it works well for the dates only. I update it only when I know I wrote something on the small planner. I love your videos. Thx !
