I am a lift handed. Yes it is a gift to being a lifty but it's also hard trying to get stuff done in a right hand world. Don't get me wrong I truly love being a lifty person who try to make it in this world. It's true that people that's a lift handed person do stutter. We still get stuff done nobody what.. Sorry for the bad grammar too. It sometimes doesn't come out the way that I wanted sometimes. But I can say about being a lifty person. That I teach kids that are right and lift handed and they truly love it because I can interact with both of them and I'm only a lifty, 22 years old, I'm also a artist and I'm unique... All I have to say to people that are lift handed just accept who are you, stop looking for people validation to try to fit in cause you not going to get the right thing..here go my quote for yall- stop being like people that are not understanding how different you are just be unique and different than anything you can do??!

Since i was a child i was always outstanding in my studies, i am good in arts, i can sing well, i can dance well, i can cook well, i am a doctor, i can multitask and to be honest, everyone in my family are right handed but none of them are as gifted as me, they are also jealous of me for being good in many things.. Squilly, I'm currently reading LEFT-HAND TURN AROUND THE WORLD, Chasing The Mystery And Meaning Of All Things Southpaw. It's written by David Wolman, good book (righies won't make it past the first chapter as the discussion of lefties is like Sominex to them), and you'll get a lot of the same feelings from it. I always found it odd as a kid (adulthood too, I guess) that we lefties notice one another instantly, and it's not as if we're looking for one another, we just simply notice it. Turns out it's not odd at all, pretty much all lefties do. Just one example, am sure you'd enjoy the book.

I am a lefty! Writing with right hand bcoz my mommy's objections! Play with left hand and also drawing, eating, drinking, painting, stitching, carroms, hammer, sewing, cutting etc all with left hand! Due to social pressure and the right dominated tools I became dexterous over a period of time! I may be wrong but i think creativity and emotional aspects are based on the environment and training not lefty or righty. For example left or right side driving is easily switched by many people by their training and attention. Before 16th century most people celebrated what is done by all so leftys were not recognized. Since last three centuries, people celebrating uniqueness in humans so left handedness attention and studies. Its not just left or right, every person for sure has some uniqueness. Let us know it, recognize it and celebrate it. Every person is special!!

I am right handed person, but deeply interested in left-handedness. I have noticed the following patterns through just observation: 1. Many standup comedians are left-handed. 2. Left handed people can tell jokes and mimic without laughing and without going out of character. 3. Left handed folks have their own way of learning algebra (I tried to teach one and discovered he had his own path). 4. Some of them can write in such a way very fast that it can be deciphered only by reading the mirror reflection. 5. Among people with disabilities it looks as if more are left handed. 6. Perhaps, the learning problems some left handed people have is caused by their teachers being right handed.
I also have a couple of opinions: 1. The writing of most languages are from left to right and from up to down -- and this might be a disadvantage to left handed people. And perhaps this might play a role behind dyslexia. 2. Appliances, doors, design elements of buildings, etc. are constructed to help the right handed people and might pose disadvantages to left handed people. 3. Left handed people must have suffered when tasks were taught to them forcing them to adapt.

I’m the right-handed daughter of a left-handed identical twin father. When he and his brother, my uncle, were young, they were forced to write righthandedly, but while my uncle did as he was told, my father refused. Consequently, my dad had beautiful handwriting, and my uncle’s was terrible. They always worked in similar jobs, always at the same place: first at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and, when it closed, they both switched to the Philadelphia Navy Yard. So they both moved from New York to New Jersey, to the same town, and to houses half a block from each other on the same street. My younger brother is a leftie; while I was always considered the “smart” child, my brother had difficulty in the tightly controlled school environment. I am autistic (Asperger’s syndrome), while my brother is not. But his career path was much more creative than mine, and he and I had different, yet close, relationships with our dad. And when our dad and our uncle retired, they both moved to the same state and - of course - to the same retirement community. The twins had some slight divergences in career paths, with my uncle being less of a creative sort and more on the bureaucratic side. Guess who had the higher income.

This connection (stuttering and forced hand usage) has been utterly disproven. The information in this video is quite dated. I regularly call out colleagues for citing dated interpretations then they teach. It’s hard enough to get students to learn the correct stuff. Why teach if you don’t want to stay up to date. But there is little encouragement or reward for those that teach basic science courses to keep up. Textbooks are ALWAYS 10-15 years out of date. Single or double author text books suffer from non experts writing outside their area and really mimicking what someone else said. Graduate texts generally have one editor and experts in particular areas write one chapter on their area.

My grandpa, mom, sister, and I are all left handed and each have a level of dyslexia. But I love the fact that I'm different than most and I always heard lefties were more creative and artistic and that's what I believed and became...dyslexia is actually a blessing because you have to create more neural pathways to figure out how to do things like reading or patterns recognition. I had allergies bad as a kid, hyper active, dyslexic, and sometimes studdered when I was thinking too fast, but at the same time I was walking and talking by the time I was 6 months old, I was memorizing kids books by 2 just by watching my mom read, I was writing in cursive from my mom's poetry books by the time I was 5 before I started kindergarten, my school also got my IQ tested, once in 2nd grade and once in 4th because of my reading comprehension test scores (just say between 150-160, at 2nd grade had an 8th grade reading level, at 5th grade a college plus reading level, in the 7th grade I had the highest TCAP scores in the whole country and in the schools history, and was offered to go straight to 9th grade to finish out the year, do summer school and be a sophomore. Just saying don't let your weaknesses rules you, once you rule them you'll see the truth within. I just wish I could figure out how to translate intelligence into something other than learning and memorizing everything you hear, though there isn't anything one can do with their hands that I can't learn or catch onto within a couple hours.
I also never catch anything or get sick, and I've always had a strong immune system. And I'm a lefty down their, this is blowing my fing mind lol.

This was a fascinating documentary and I feel like sharing some of my anecdotal experiences; I am Left Handed, the only one in my immediate family, I was never diagnosed with dyslexia but certain parts of my childhood now make so much more sense as I, even though being able to read and speak, rarely opted to speak till I was 4, instead opting for visual representation or enactment of what I was trying to say. For instance, when asked what my elder sibling was doing, instead of replying that he's asleep, I'd fall to the floor and act that he was asleep. I am fluent in reading and writing, as well as speech. I have done a little public speaking as well and It seems to come naturally to me (apart from a little stage fright on the initial couple instances), though sometimes (and very rarely) I do have trouble speaking certain words that I have fluently spoken in the past countless times. I have also been relatively good with 3D visualisation, about how objects and shapes would look like when frame of reference is rotated, or at an angle, or combination of both, to the extent that I can see a shape and image it from any frame of reference in a 3D space. I just assumed it's natural for everyone to do so but found out that it wasn't the case when I grew up and interacted with other people.
Also, though not explored further in the documentary due to lack of means to prove it, I do believe I am somewhat more "intuitive" than my peers as I just seem to arrive at right answers (generally) and find it very simple to do so but would never be able to explain my precise reasoning behind it, only being able to sort of explain some allied concepts at play but not how they link together in my mind to give me the answer. It's like just knowing that 2+2=4 but not being able to explain why the mathematical operator works only in that specific way to give you the result. This has also led to some frustration as in college I would be annoyed at why the professor is spending so much time on explaining something that is just "inherently true" rather than focusing on areas where students need their guidance, wondering why my peers are unable to grasp the concept at hand and require explanation from multiple viewpoints to make them understand.
From a family background point of view, my paternal side has a history of rheumatoid arthritis, including my Grandma and my Father though thankfully I don't seem to affected, or at least none of the symptoms have appeared as of now (I am in my mid 20s). I also don't fall sick very often, but somehow like clockwork in the past 10 years out of 12 I have fallen sick around a particular time of the year, the only time I'd be down with a high fever though that said, It seems I am a little sensitive in my nose and would wake up in my morning with a bad case of sneeze for a couple of hours before it goes back to normal, or when there's too much oregano on the pizza. I have deduced that the former usually happens when the Air Conditioner has been blowing cold air on my head for the entire night so I am not really sure if that even classifies as being more prone to allergies. During COVID, at multiple instances I happened to find myself in close proximity to those who were tested for positive for COVID but test after test, I was always somehow negative; even before I was vaccinated.
All of these are of course, anecdotal and really in the grand scheme of things, unimportant to the nature of scientific study on the subject but the documentary just seems to explain certain things about my life such as family history of auto-immune diseases, being good at 3D visualisation and intuition, or sometimes struggle to speak a certain word that I have fluently spoken countless times before even if I consider myself to be fluent in reading and writing. Perhaps it's just conformational bias, perhaps there's actually a kernel of truth in this hypothesis. I hope Science is able to figure it out someday and explain why 1/10th of the population is left handed since eons if there isn't any advantage to it, and why 9/10th are right handed if there isn't any disadvantages to being left handed.

Well my second grade teacher made me use my right hand. She told me I was using the wrong hand…
One day my mom seen me writing something and ask me why I was using my right hand. I had started slowing down on my school work… I told mama what the teacher told me and oh my lands that teacher was in big trouble. Mama takes me to school and told her I was born left handed like my older brother was . Our daddy was left handed. My mama had to explain it to the teacher. She really thought something was wrong with me. But I started getting better at my school work but I truly did start using both my right and left people were amazed just watching me and I thought they were the weird ones. But I ended up being very strong in my right hand. My brother wrote up side down to me. I couldn’t write like him no matter how hard I tried. But I still write left handed and eat left handed. The relationship between dyslexia and handedness is not what most are thinking. These are older interpretations. Lateralization of the brain is on a continuum, be the brain left or right dominant. What is true is those with dyslexia more often than not don’t show ear dominance (right eared vs left eared). So there CAN BE atypical less dominance of one hemisphere in language processing structures. . Finally keep in mind that the less a study is hard science (eg staining brain tissue to trace connections) and the softer the study (eg please self report your allergy and autoimmune pathologies) the more likely the study will be affected by the replication issue that plagues the neurosciences. Half of the neuroscience papers published (affecting softer areas much more) can’t be repeated by an outside lab. Even when the data can be replicated by an outside lab, the results are usually much less robust than reported in the original study. So, there is an issue of cherry picking data and confirmation bias that is well documented in the neurosciences. Always be a skeptic. It’s the safest path.

I am a lefty & my right nut hangs lower than my left one & i agree with Gerschwind's findings. but the stuttering only occurs when nervous or uncomfortable around right handers or uncomfortable situations & once lefties are comfortable around right handers or just oozing confidence all the time you will find no stuttering or dyslexia. confidence is key. & we will try to hide our intelligence from others so they can not exploit us. I was a B C D grade student once you get an A they expect it all the time, but i couldn't hide an A in physical Education classes and i worked out i was better at everything than all the right handers in my class when it came to sports ect i dominated. i even did 1 kids work in every class for him as i would notice i was finished halfway through the class & he had not even wrote his name yet at the top of a test that was given to us, so i would swap test papers and leave my name out then switch tests papers so all he had to do was write his name and i did this from grade 4 to year 8 thinking i was helping him, i realized when i was older when i bumped into him through another friend years after school days when we were in our early 20"s then and he was living in a nursing home for the elderly with no education. education is the key. I did get caught a few times by the teacher for copy my answers from the test papers i would switch with him. i am 48 now & just came across this now & after watching this it confirmed a lot.

People say I do everything backwards. So COMPLETELY left handed I catch and throw with my left. Severe acid reflux no other medical conditions. Multiple solutions to problems, easy. Procrastinators unite!....... Tomorrow.

'Better' right-brain thinking, and a more active immune system. Both linked to higher testosterone levels in utero.

I've always felt as if playing ping pong left handed is worth a couple of points a game. Everything is coming back to that rightie in a different way than he's used to. Just one example.

If the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body & the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then that means that left-handers are the only ones in their right mind!

Interesting that they are constructing that ugly Lloyds building in this video. Sad that Dr. Geschwind passed November 4, 1984. Burrell Smith ran himself up on the rocks. His boss Jeff Raskin died of pancreatic cancer February 26, 2005.

Being left-handed, adopted into a family of right handed individuals was awesome, because I still became left handed, and learned to use my right hand.It became a problem when I was younger, 3-5 years old; then I discovered no problem @ all.Be yourself- always✌

Nuns told my mother I was retarded and she needed to take me to doctors. Doctor wrote a letter to nun that I was perfectly normal and do not change her to write with her right hand. But I can write with my right but sloppy. I m totally a lefty. Sister still calls me lefty. Didn’t stutter but did have speech problems.
