Three things I love: 1) The chassis in general. The engine is not going to be that loud at cruising speed compared to a Super C or even a Ram 2500, which uses the same engine. On a tall hillside, the engine isn’t going to be screaming to make torque because the diesel’s torque peak is over 2,000 RPM lower than the Ford 7.3L V8 (and it makes much more torque than the Ford does at its torque peak). The advantages of the Freightliner platform are head and shoulders above that of the competing Ford, which needs massive suspension upgrades and still doesn’t make the same amount of torque. 2) The kitchen. I love the induction cooktop rather than a propane cooktop. It’s nicely organized. The dishwasher is a key. 3) The garage. Nuff said. Three things I don’t like: 1) The toilet. I think I might move the TP roll holder to a different spot that’s not in my lap. Heck, it’s the worst bathroom I’ve seen on a Class A diesel toy hauler. It’s also the best bathroom I’ve seen on a Class A diesel toy hauler. 2) The lack of external storage … but that’s due to the driveshaft tunnel running down the middle of the frame, and I don’t know what all I’m going to keep in those external compartments. The Ford has the same problem so the advantage still goes to the Freightliner chassis here. 3) The ramp doesn’t do double-duty as a patio, and honestly I’m just grasping at a straw here. Dishonorable mention: Newmar didn’t include the washer-dryer stack on this model but that can be fixed easily, and without the factory W/D cabinet that just takes up extra space.
Thats what I am buying in 2 years for my smart car to go into the garage then I am removing the queen bed and putting in big desk - I will sleep above the car - I know several people who have smart cars in the Canyon Star and they have no issues
Hi Matt. Just looked at the 5th wheels you recommended for full time living. Could you please do exactly the same video for live in 5th wheels under 31ft. All the features you like seem to be missing on the shorter 5th wheels. Cheers
I really like this motor home! I’m gonna have to disagree with Andrea and say that there’s not a thing wrong with the valences. They match the décor and they are fine just the way they are. I love the couch and booth dinette. It almost looks like a suede but without seeing them in person I can’t tell for sure. It’s different, that’s why I like it so much. Overall, an awesome RV!
Wait, WHAT? You can have a Class A toy hauler? It's time for Peterbilt to make a chassis specifically FOR this application so DIY builders can have fun.
Hi Matt and Andrea! My likes are the the storage on the inside and garage and the dinette. My dislikes are small storage outside and the radius shower. Other than that it’s great! Thank you Matt and Andrea!
I like the siesmic toy hauler better because of the garage, two outside decks, 2nd bathroom, and oven. I just like that this one you can drive and don't have to pull or get out to access it. If I could morph the two together would be great.
Unfortunately, $300,000-$400,000 a 300hp diesel motor home with a garage and the same tiny dinette and sofa living area of a 30 ft trailer that costs $50,000 is a nonstarter for me😢
@@JimPippin-wc7fqI agree but this is a pretty cool little rig and for under 300k someone will want it… my grandfather was in the car business when I was growing up he owned dealerships and he used to say with different words there is a butt for every seat.
I agree on the door/drawer pulls. The price was kind of a shock to me as well. The non-garage interior is so plush and beautiful. It doesn't seem to fit with the whole toy hauler concept. Two dinner tables is also a waste of space.
This is a good start. They definitely missed an opportunity to make a back patio, but I expect them (and others) to build on this. A class A toy hauler is a great option for those that want the extra multipurpose room/office/extra bedroom.
I was so excited to hear Newmar was making a toyhauler class A until.... The back door can't be made into a patio. The fact that the garage area doesn't do anything exactly well is also disappointing. They had a chance to make something really awesome and its like their design team gave up. I love Newmar and this just made me sad.
I was really excited to see this one as it appeared to offer everything you could want except another 🚾 or bathroom. It’s a complete disappointment with inadequate storage unless you fill the back, a queen size bed and the overall build quality looks dreadful. It’s so sad to see that manufacturers are not taking the care and thoughts on their RVS. It’s a definite no from me even if the discount was enormous. Unless manufacturers really want to remain in business they need to up the quality and finish of their products or face bankruptcy in my opinion.
For this money, I’d prefer a super C and pull a trailer. This is a lot of money for something I think is limited. I can load a jeep in a trailer, pull it with a super C. If you want a garage, there are trailers that can easily be upgraded on the inside. Thank you for the video
I looks okay on the whole, but it looks like it was designed by committee, for example, why are there 2 TVs up front? The one on the dinette faces the couch on the other side but the one that’s over the cab is a head scratcher since nothing faces it…. But then there’s the garage…. It does a lot of things except one…. This is the second class A toy hauler that you said “NO” to a smart car to. The other is the Thor Outlaw, again another class A. I’m curious, is there any kind of RV that can haul a Smart Car or similar vehicle? Just wondering
Didn't like the cheap cabinetry. The cabinet doors in the garage weren't even. The dishwasher wouldn't open or close easily. I didn't like the looks of the drivers area, way too square. The quality just isn't there for almost 300K with taxes.
Im just a renter and 1 more yr for retirement to buy my full time RV, but i see more outside storage space on a C class what happen? An for the $$$$ to much.
Surprised Newmar makes a toy hauler. . Likes: Newmar, full body paint, multi use 'garage,' dw, nice kitchen for a toy hauler, Dislikes: engine in front more noise?, lack of exterior storage, no power reel for power cord, queen bed (deal breaker), radius shower.terrible locatioon for toilet.
I have a 2021 3719 that is not a toy hauler. Matt, take it for a drive......the noise is not an issue. Matt, take off the cover and see how much effort Newmar went to for the insulation to reduce the noise. Matt, look at the construction and how low the engine is mounted. This was a terrible review. Please do your homework before you make claims. It's true when you first start the engine you can have a little noise but when you take off on down the road it goes away. Takes about 1 minute to go away.

Best Class A Toy Hauler out there...

Very good points sir! A neighbor drove the old gas engine version and said you couldn't hear yourself think going up a hill.

Good to hear about the smart car, haven't heard of any first hand experience, just people guessing.
I have watched two videos of you reviewing Newmar Canyon Star toy haulers. You never show or know where the outside T.V. is at. Thanks John
As a former truck driver, you are right this will be noisy and hot, but the plus is that garage.
I wear noise cancelling head phones and listen to rock and roll while I am driving my RV its takes away ALL the noise

I liked the carpet at the bottom of the sink and dishwasher......2024 models have improved the steering wheel with more controls.
But Matt when you do get a real nice 3 seat sofa they are either cheap and/or very uncomfortable without cushioned arm's and down right ugly....
How can you tell that the dinette is comfortable when you are sitting on your leg?

I like it, It doesn't have a washer / dryer. Why do they have a tv across the couch and in the driving cabin
A washer/dryer is an option in the garage. The TV above the driving cabin is optional and can be replaced by storage space.

Seems to me that you could buy an enclosed cargo trailer and pull behind a much more economical motorhome.

Dude that is NOT a PPP! Admit it Matt.😀
WOW that is innovative!! A diesel puller?
Actually, they call it FRED.
FRont Engine Diesel.
Seems like the slowest garage bunk motor I have ever seen?

The thought of teens walking through the master bedroom to get to the bathroom or kitchen during the night is a dealbreaker for me. Just sayin’ 😊
Why would you not have a smart car in the back?
Can’t use door as patio, wet bay is cheap, no cord reel, fabric seating and everything looks pretty low budget for this price point.
They offer a model with a patio.
Gotta have a pull out bed in the sofa
They do have the option of the jack knife couch. Or a recliner seat in the couch.

Does the garage door double as a deck?
If only they could have put in a different shower and not the radius.
The 2024 has a rectangular shower. 30x40
What is the garage and ramp weight capacity?
1500 lbs. for floor. I think the ramp is rated at 4k
