I bought my Thai constellation on Etsy for $225 about 6 months ago which felt like highway robbery but I think is pretty comparable to standard pricing these days. It came as a small plant with four leaves all nicely variegated but small and since then, when given pride of place in my collection (best sunlight, best care) it has actually shocked me with how fast it's growing and how dramatically the leaf sizes have shot up! It feels like every new leaf has a new one coming on in a matter of days. It's now 8 leaves, each bigger with more fenestrations than the last!! Absolutely love it and would recommend =)

It’s incredible how the market has since changed! I just bought a baby Thai Con with no fenestrations and 3 leaves, it’s about 7-8” tall, and I paid about $300 USD (a really good deal for my area of the US at this time especially seeing as it is shipping from within the states). I also paid about $350 for an albo about 3 months ago. I got such a good deal, again that is for the area I live in, in the states, because Logees nursery considered it a “low variegation plant”. I have one leaf with low variegation, but the top 3 leaves have nice sectoral and marbled variegation and I am totally thrilled with it and personally feel it may have been mislabeled. I do tend to stay away from albos with more than 50% of its leaves having more than 50% white; they scare me! My albo is bigger than the Thai constellation with 4 leaves and some fenestrations on the top 2 of the 4. Lastly, I bought a single node albo “chonk/wet stick” with one tiny root and a visible growth point (just a small green dot when purchased, now just about to finally push out its first leaf!!!) for $150 including shipping, about 3-4 months ago. It’s now April of 2022 for reference. I am super excited to grow all of my variegated monsteras. I have had and continue to have fun growing my green deliciosa as well! Be well and thank you for all of the info!

Thai constellations are definitely easier to come across in Australia now than what they were a couple of months ago when I purchased mine. They're even starting to be available to purchase from our biggest hardware stores (for $300 AUD) which is the same price I paid for mine.
Then in terms of variegated monstera's.. well they may as well be unicorns. Recently I was watching an auction on eBay where a two leaf cutting with nice variegation went for over $1,300 AUD..
And then if you're wanting a plant with at least four cuttings or/established, you're looking at paying anywhere from $2,000.
I wish our plant prices were as cheap as the UK! 🤯

  • @sarahgiggles9444
    @sarahgiggles9444 5 років тому +6

Something I've noticed is that when looking at Monstera Thai Constellation online is that a huge portion of the plants for sale are coming directly from Thailand, which means there is a real risk of the plant getting stuck at customs and either delayed for days or weeks or thrown out entirely. Many sellers will offer a "documentation" fee for around $30 so that the shipment gets processed properly and quickly, so it's something to keep in mind regarding the true cost of the plant.

Not sure how to pronounce the city she lives in because of her Spanish accent. She uses wood tight glue sold at Lowe's and Home Depot. She grows a lot of succulents herself she has her nursery and she does a lot of desert roses and then he cuts to a desert rose she seals with would take glue and she also seals her cuttings with what type glue. They don't rot that way and you don't have to let the cutting sit out and harden off. You can wax a cutting wound as soon as it’s made to aid in the prevention of rot or to possibly deter boring insects. I’m assuming she used paraffin. Just warm it up until it’s completely malleable but not so hot that it will scald the plant. Then smear over the wound and let dry.

I’ve seen countless videos on UA-cam about root rot with these plants but thought it was a result of over watering. It seems like they need lots of care. Maybe this is due to the mutation for variegation? Anyway, I’m currently trying to rehab this plant. Fingers crossed 🤞🏽

Just bought my first Thai constellation, I spent ab 200 US dollars on it. It’s a bit bigger than just a small juvenile plant but I still love it do much. Def worth it

I got a juvenile thai constellation for around USD27 at my local nursery here in Singapore, and the next leaf it popped out had fenestrations and was as big as my hand (17cm long)! Probably the higher heat and humidity here helps it along. Love it, despite the fact that I don't actually like fenestrations and liked the whole-leaf look, but it's so cute it doesn't matter anymore!

I recently stopped by a big box store and bought a "split leaf philodendron" for $15. It has two beautifully variegated leaves! Did I stumble upon the holly grail or is this different type of beauty?

is the variegation green? it's probably a sport. meaning it is mutated! very cool

Both of these are more expensive in the US and the Albo Borsigiana is a lot harder to find. One fact I like is that the Thai Constellation is a true Monstera Deliciosa. So if you’ve seen massive ones in a nursery somewhere with the giant 2’-3’ leaves and the ruffles on the back of the stems...yeah same plant but with variegation! (See my profile photo for our local nursery’s non variegated monstera).

Hi, I’m from Indonesia and variegated monstera is very expensive here. Albo borsigiana cost US$ 100 per leaf (not the entire plant), and thau constellation around US 150 per leaf

Watch yourselves when purchasing these plants on Ebay and other auction sites. I found someone in Germany offering what was obviously a Pothos as a Monstera. Don't know if they purposefully did that or they didn't know what they had.

i just orderd variagata albo cuttings for around 40euros. I just bought 2 cuttings. 1 leave each with nice variations an (previous) aerial root with fine roots all wrapped in wet paper. Boxed in a heated styrofoam box for international transportation in winter.
I took me so long to find a shop which was selling them, but now they arrived and i'm happy..
found it in a jungle shop in gladbeck, germany

@Angelie Marie you can get them from Mindanao. A lot of sellers are in facebook groups. I paid additonal for shipping but the actual plant is around 500-600 php only. Don't buy in Manila it's over-priced.

Question: if you buy an albo borsigiana with a node, roots and multiple leaves but the variegation is limited, less than a quarter of the leaf. Is the plant reverting or there is a good chance it will push out a new leaf with some good variation in it?And can you ask to see the root if the plant is already planted in soil?

Kathleen Murphy I live in Bahia, Brazil. Here there is a few places with preserved Mata Atlântica, which was never touched by the man. I was amazed cause I have never realized that plant was there, in the middle of the city. Even thought I live in the tropics, they’re hard to find for sell as it is to you. I’ve never seen it in stores!

(which is roughly 157 British pounds). You can search for the albo one on the marketplaces here, but i have seen a cutting, yes cutting, going for $1000, or about 500GBP :(
