@@tombuck I had to install NDAs for OBS because it wasn’t recognizing the iPad with the usb cable. Will I have to install something on ecam if I want to use the iPad and iPhone as video capture source???
a very helpful video indeed thanks!, just wanted to know one more thing, while doing a session on Zoom through Ecam Live, can we go Live simultaneously on Facebook and UA-cam (through restream) as well? and share the whole meeting with our viewers who are not part of that zoom meeting?
Yes you could! It would take a lot of processing power, but if your computer can handle it, you can use Ecamm as a Virtual Cam in Zoom for the meeting while simultaneously streaming. In theory you should also be able to use NDI.tv to make Zoom a source for Ecamm 🤔
I'm a huge Ecamm user - even do a weekly show with them - and thought your overview was spot on. One thing - the Canon M6 Mark II does have clean HDMI. That's my main live stream camera connected to a CamLink. Allows me to stream/output in 30fps/4k with AF. Best
@@tombuck I've been OH so surprised how good it looks - despite the ridiculous buttons you can't use when the screen if flipped up. Example of quality - I'm speaking at next week's VidFest Expo 2020 and we were doing a speaker run thru last night. After my turn someone said "Kevin what camera are you using...looks amazing." So there's that! Enjoy your stuff dude!
I usually have my main camera with a 24mm lens in front of me about 3 feet away. The second camera with the 50mm lens is off to the side about 7 feet away.
The Canon web cam utility software is now out of beta and works way better than the beta version. I’d have issues sometimes with the camera being seen by the computer sometimes but not anymore. It just loads up really quickly.
Thank you, most of this was above my head, but appreciated the detail. How do adjust the video and audio if they do not synch when virtual camera goes into Zoom?
Just as a heads up, you can also use your iPad to control the cam live all your special effects your overlays your videos and everything that goes with it. Give it a try and download the application on your iPad and watch and see you can control everything with your iPad.
@@tombuck Hopefully if you do get it on your iPad, maybe you’ll do a vid about it. I just added more effects on EcammLive and refreshed the app on my iPad, and everything synced on the laptop.
Tom...what's your "Ecamm" suggestion for Windows users? I like how user-friendly Ecamm appears to be. Seems easier than OBS, which I'm struggling with presently.
What do you select in Zoom for the Audio Input when using the Virtual Cam out? When I select in Zoom, I can have the Virtual Cam for the Video, but it doesn't show for Audio?
I usually use my Rodecaster pro and run the Ecamm audio through that, but you can also use something like Loopback for reroute your audio: rogueamoeba.com/loopback/
@@tombuck yeah, I like the overall look you have. Coming from event videography I'm new to controlled lighting. During quarantine I've been working on a little studio project an hour and a half from home. I love taking things to a new level with new gear :) It's cool how well you have set up and created such a even blanket of exposure. When I was setting up this new location I learned fast the challenge of creating a set. So I really appreciate your work. It's very relevant to what I am working on. Got the Aputure 300x and ATEM mini pro recently too. Fun times! Really dig what you're doing, your killing it!
You have a great channel. I watch each of your videos with great curiosity and pleasure. I have learned a lot from you. luckily you exist. Hello From Turkey.

This video (and several of your others) are so insanely helpful and clear for those of us starting on video creation/content journeys. Thanks so much, Tom!
It sort of feels like a lot of the functionality that this provides is also covered by the ATEM mini. Of course, the mini does other things too, but I'm wondering if this is still a worthwhile purchase in addition to a mini or if it's meant to be an alternative to one.
@@tombuck agreed and that’s the functionality I’m waffling on. I teach also, but I’m not sure how often a secondary or tertiary source would be needed. I like your document camera idea though
I don't really do anything special. I turn on "original audio" for Zoom and that's about it since I usually run my audio direct through Zoom and not Ecamm.
Can I ask a) why do you use both? B) when I’ve done classes on zoom, it can’t stream music through my computer and pick up my voice well on my yeti. It only likes one at a time. What would you recommend please?
This is one of the reasons Ecamm is so great. Zoom has gotten significantly better, but Ecamm allows you to have maximum control over what your A/V inputs look like to everyone else. This is also where you can add in multiple audio sources and mix them together. The only tough part is getting the audio from Ecamm to Zoom- you'll need an app like Loopback that will let you create a "virtual audio device" that Zoom will recognize (basically it lets you mix and match and audio sources you want from anywhere on your computer- I do have a video about it too).
Really appreciate your reply. Thank you! I’ll check out your other video about Loopback. I’m still a little confused as to why you’d use both ecamm and zoom at the same time?
Awesome video! Do you find that using the ATEM mini takes some load off of your computer and keeps the fan from turning on? I’m using an Elgato capture card and Ecamm and if I open zoom my 16in MacBook Pro fan goes nuts
Tom, I love your videos and I learn so much! I especially like that you take the time to answer questions in the comments! Thx so much for sharing your knowledge!!!
Happy Thanksgiving darling! I’m so thankful for you and the life we have together. Thanks for being you! 🥰💜 Also, I liked all the different transitions in this video. Let’s make some cool graphics for The Couple’s Table!
I use OBS a lot with Zoom and love it. Especially the price, free! This program looks a little more user friendly though. I might have to check it out.
Great video once again! Do you know if you can bring zoom comments into ecamm the same way you can with youtube and facebook comments? People like seeing their own comments and questions on screen. Thanks again!
@@tombuck Just to follow up; I figured a work around for showing Zoom comments through ecamm. I created a scene with a screenshare and camera overlay, and you can bring in the the zoom chat window. It shows all comments and not individual ones, but lots of cases that will work. I also discovered that sounds made in ecamm don't route through to zoom. So sound effects, music, and videos through ecamm aren't heard in zoom. I may have it wrong though! BTW I see your comments on Peter Greggs channel as well! It's great that you encourage all his work! Thanks!
Do you ever teach with something like a Keynote with ecamm? I’ve got a talk coming up that I have to do virtually and am trying to figure out the best way to do that.
So far I've been running my Keynotes off of a separate computer connected to the ATEM Mini. I haven't tried it directly through Ecamm yet, although I'm sure it would work just fine.
Great video. Do you have any tips on solving looking into the camera while looking at the face of the one your answering on Zoom? Becomes a little weird when you want to see their reaction and it looks to them that you’re not looking at them.... Thanks
It is strange. I try and position my computer screen as close to the lens of my camera as possible, and then I try and direct as much of my attention as I cna directly towards the camera lens (think of it as a person sitting there). You could always find a teleprompter and rig it up with a second display from your computer so that you're literally staring into the camera when you're looking at your meeting. Caleb Pike from DSLRVideoShooter made a cool video about it.
Okay this is great! So I want to go live with atem mini pro but also have a guest in there while live via Zoom or whatever can bring a guest in. What is the best way to do it??
I am awaiting an M1 Mac mini to arrive and going to run Ecamm for zoom training. I have Ecamm now but it and zoom running my MPP sounds like it is going to take off with the fan noise. I really hate it. I would like to keep my MacBook Pro as a second machine as an input signal through Ecamm. I assume I would need elgato stream deck or Atem mini for that. Great video as always.
Oh man, I bet the M1 will handle this really well! I'm convinced my MacBook will one day lift off like a helicopter while it's fans go crazy during Zoom.
I teach using an ATEM mini Pro/Zoom with an iPad Pro into one of the channels, camera into another, Hyperdeck into the 3rd and MacBook Pro into the 4th. Personal taste I guess, but I think I can just about do everything you mentioned through this combo of hardware vs EcammLive.
This is amazing Tom! So glad I found your channel! I’ve been using my Canon 70D for Zoom, and the EOS Webcam utility is much better than having to do CameraLive and Camtwist (without capture device). Great content, wish I was your student! Subscribed!! 💥💥👍
The problem I ran into, was that zoom downscales „webcams“ when the connection of a student is not perfect. So my overlay and presentation, that are run through my virtual webcam are unreadable. I now use the screenshare ->document camera feature of zoom which does not get downscaled, as far as I know. Did you have this problem as well and what was your workaround?
A lot of it does depend on your network connection as well as the connection of the people in the meeting. It'll likely be clear for some people and blurry for others. I don't have a great workaround other than doing what you're doing and using Zoom's screenshare for critical items.
I'm not teaching anymore, but when we were online I tried to keep as much of the interactivity that we has in person as possible. Plus I was teaching high school students, so a goofy sound effect every once in a while went a long way for keeping attention or making someone laugh 😁 But all of these tools were really great for sharing presentations and doing video critiques. It was easy to bring in different A/V sources and have students present their projects and everyone could give feedback. Kind of amazing now that I'm thinking back on it!
So you're getting me excited about the possibility of trying Ecamm as a new workflow! Previously I was using Screenflow when doing a combination of screencapture and showing myself on camera. But this looks like it will give me more options... So if you're doing a screencapture recording using ecamm, is it possible to have two separate files, one file for your screencapture and 1 file for your webcam file? Then you can go back and swap back and forth between the two files as you see fit? Or do you have to make that decision on the fly as you record w/ ecamm? Also, when you turned on the new camera at 10:32, the colors don't look nearly as vibrant and amazing as the rest of this video. Is that because of a certain setting you're using for the other cameras to get your colors to pop and look so good? I keep getting all fired up about new possibilities as I keep watching your videos, thank you!!
Ecamm is amazing! My wife does all of her screen shares for everything directly in it, and I’ve been doing it more and more too. But you only get the one file, not separate sources. As for the colors, I adjusted colors on the regular footage, but Ecamm was straight from the camera. I do have a video about how to create custom LUTs to adjust your image in Ecamm, and you can download mine for free in that video. 👍
I would like to know how to use zoom and toggle back and forth between me and my PowerPoint with a couple of cameras. I have streamdeck but am open to other tools
Great video but when you zoom with more people the virtual cam will become out of focus if other start talking. Is there a way to pin my video like I see it when I use screen sharing?
Thanks Tom, I'm starting to do more and more interviews with Sales and Executive Level Management. So I'm always looking for a way to separate myself from the normal person appreciate the response
Hi Tom thanks for the video. I assist my pastor who does the preaching on Zoom. Sitting at my home I want to use ecamm live to capture the video from Zoom into ecamm live and then add the bibles texts etc as overlays and send it to Zoom. I am able to send the output to Zoom via the virtual cam but how can I bring the Zoom video in my scenes? Please advise, Thanks. (i am ok with the audio since I am using the Loopback).
This is a great question. You could use NDI.tv to use Zoom as a source for Ecamm. It might be taxing on your computer though. The simplest way, if possible, is to have another computer run Zoom and then use a capture card to bring it in as a video soruce to Ecamm.
Thank-you for this video. I use Ecamm and Zoom for workshops and am having trouble getting the PiP to work when I use a pdf overlay. Have you ever had that issue? Also do you offer consulting?
I haven't had any issues once the scenes are set up. My problem is that I often forget to lock the scenes and then accidentally move stuff around while I'm live 😬
Awesome video Tom. Do you write a script and use a teleprompter when you make these UA-cam videos ? Always so clear and concise - keep up the fantastic videos!
Thank you! I usually have an outline with bullet points and just wind it. For this video, I kind of just did a step by step of the Recess with no script or anything. I usually only use the prompter if it’s a super technical review or something along those lines with really specific points to hit 👍
Great video and very helpful! What is your hardware set-up in addition to the Atem mini? Specifically, I am wondering how many things you have plugged into your MacBook Pro and if running out of of ports is a challenge. Do you ever use a hub for certain inputs?
Ports are definitely limited. I’ve been using the M1 Mac Mini for about a month now. The ATEM and Rodecaster are connected to the back, along with a USB hub and external display. The hub has 4 USB ports, sd card slots, and an internal hard drive. It’s basically the same setup I had on my MacBook with a slightly different adapter.
@@tombuck Tom, thanks for your fast reply! I currently have an older MacBook Pro that does not have USB-C adapters, so it has been hard to find a hub for it. I am thinking about getting a Mac Mini M1 with 16GB ram and either the 256GB or 512GB hard drive, so I would be curious which one your got and how you like it. I also think I will need a hub on it as well, so let me know if you have any recommendations. I am a speaker and coach and plan on using this set-up for online courses and streaming. My wife is also a teacher, so I plan on getting this researched and tested out, so she can use the finished product as well! Thanks again for your authenticity and sharing great videos and information!
It doesn't matter, you can start/stop recording anytime. By default, it's set to fad to black when you stop recording, so it's best to turn that off so that your Zoom window doesn't go black for a second.
Always love your videos Tom. And yes, your dumb puns, because... puns! I thought I would mention that Nikon has a similar ability to capture via USB cable on all the Z series cameras and have for most of the year.
@@tombuck Yeah, my Z7 is amazing. I shoot music videos and portraits with it and it's "terrible" auto focus has never failed me, even in low light and even when using my older G glass with the adapter.
This was fantastic! Thanks for this brother. Not sure if you've done any hardware videos on how you physically connect stuff. I'm doing a student moving up ceremony and will need mics, multiple cameras, sound system, music, the whole production. If you have I would love a link and sorry in advance if you have. I'm more interested in connecting a sound system and such.
I haven't made that video yet, but I've been thinking of it. I just don't know how to make it engaging and not just "10 minutes of guy connecting cables" 😁
Omg!!! Will you please come to my office and set this all up for me 🤣🤣🤣 seriously, this is an amazing tutorial, thanks so much I need to rewatch so I can take notes!
ecamm says that it doesn’t play sound through into Zoom, and recommends a virtual mic to get sound from ecamm into Zoom. Is that your experience? How do you get around that when playing videos or sound effects in ecamm?
@@tombuck Thanks, I appreciate your reply. I've seen Loopback before but never figured I'd need it. I just found a free app that works as well. existential.audio/blackhole/. I use Audio Hijack, also made by the Loopback people. It's awesome for interviews and well worth the investment.
Thanks for the video. What would you suggest for doing remote interviews or group sessions? That is other presenters are remote - and want to manage them. This software or other methods? Would love to hear your input on that. thanks again for the video.
Hi Tom after your last video on ATEM mini you convinced me to buy it lol and then after that so far I did 2 LIVE on my channel. one with eCamm and another with Streamyard. Streamyard free version only allowed me 720p and ecamm I see trial ends in 14 days, so after that I have to pay monthly fee , but if have to go that route do they do provide 4K streaming with their standard / basic plan or 1080P?
@@AaronAbernethy Thanks. I see streamyard has Basic and Professional plan, does the basic $20 month offer 1080P or do I have to get the Professional plan to get 1080p. I see in the pricing page they mentioned 1080p for professional plan but didnt say anything for basic plan
I went with Ecamm Pro. I found a discount coupon online, which brought the price to $364 for the year. For about a dollar a day, it’s absolutely worth it. I personally don’t have a network connection capable of streaming 4K, but really wanted nice 1080 with all of the added customization.
Thank you. Do not you know some good performance tool for a screen sharing with the ability to give a remote control to students so they can perform some tasks on my computer? Zoom has it but it has a delay.
I think that's what I'd use if I were on Windows. I know vMix is pretty popular, but I've heard there's also a big learning curve with it. OBS has gotten a lot better over the years when it comes to usability.
Really great tips, thanks! I rekon this new EOS webcam utility can’t get the EOS 6D to continuously or automatically autofocus either, right? I got the old model, not the Mark II..
@@tombuck Yes, I tested it and it works with the 6D. But then again, Ecamm recognizes the 6D directly without any syphon software, so.. what is the advantage of using EOS webcam utility if it does not improve the quite tedious “manual” autofocus?
Hey Tom! How have you fixed the blurriness of screen sharing or doing slides when using Virtual Cam with Zoom? That is a major complaint I receive and see from Zoom participants in a Zoom Meeting. Thanks!
Hey Monique! For Zoom, the clearest screen shares will always come from doing a "native" screen share using the Zoom app. BUT if you want to stick to using Virtual Cam the entire time, you can try and have your Zoom account upgraded. This video explains it in more detail starting around 7:22 - ua-cam.com/video/MclyBwgATAc/v-deo.html I hope that helps!
Hey Tom, fantastic video. Fellow teacher here; do your Zoom participants see a decreased resolution on their Zoom screens when you use Ecamm virtual camera to screen share your computer screen? I am having issues on Zoom when I use the ATEM Mini as my "camera." Zoom appears to expect my input to be moving video and not a computer screen so the resolution gets cut way down to like 320p. It's bad. Have your students commented on their resolution quality on the participant side? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Zoom always mutilates things on the viewer end- so I don’t have a real fix for that. I do think native screen sharing is better resolution, but it’s still not great.
Can this be siphoned into Google meet? If so (??) This is new info for me. Im used to streaming and recording using OBS. Now ur telling me u can go through Zoom and potentially Google Meet? Game changer
Is it possible to capture the video file from the camera while streaming? I'd like to get the raw video to my editor to make a better edit in the future 🔮.
Great video, one thing you forget to mention was the audio input setting in zoom, is it the atem mini audio or ecamm has some type of audio virtual cable?
@@tombuckHey Tom, thank you for the response, in that case, if you play some video within a scene, what is the setting in zoom to capture that audio? Maybe share computer audio at the time you share screen in zoom?
Good vid. Is it me or is the Canon EOS Utility output not capped @ 576p30?? I'm pretty sure it was @ one point, so unless this has changed at time of recording, this could have been mentioned b/c if we're looking for quality, 576p out of $1500 camera is not right. Might as well get a used GoPro and a CamLink. IDK. Would love to see the e-camm experience w/ a guest and the output in Zoom. Certainly looks like the experience is better in e-camm that it is in OBS from what was covered. Cheers.
Hey Tom. Love, love, love your videos and how passionate you are about teaching and communicating well. Question: why do u use the Atem Mini when ECAMM can do all the switching as well? I'm curious how u compliment these two products.
@@tombuck Yes, and that offloads the processing of the videos signals from the Mac to Atem. Also physical buttons are easier than the virtual ones on ECAMM. Do you use Streamdeck? Care to share your thoughts of it fitting into your workflow?
Tom, I have enterprise zoom for work and been creating overlays using Canva. I have it so I could do a two person talk and put a collaboration tool like Miro for a live session. We would record this for a "Collab LIVE" session internally. So here is my question. Since I have security layers and would have people come in like you would in zoom for your classroom how do you handle that? Do you create a separate space for students so you stay online?
It's a little tricky. Ecamm is wildly flexible in terms of overlays/design/etc. But it will only show up as one input in Zoom (so if you record in Ecamm you won't pick up anyone else in the Zoom call).
I have a noob question lol If I have a dslr camera that has a recording limit if I connect to ecamm via a capture device is there a record limit in ecamm? I guess if I’m recording only into ecamm I never have to press the record button on the camera?
Great question! And nope, no recording limit! As long as you have your camera set to not auto power off after a set amount of time, it should stay on for as long as it has power. The camera will just be in "standby" mode, and since it's not actually recording, there's no limit 👍
Very nice. But, one question. How do you solve the problem that Zoom down-samples all video to 720p? I have been trying to do the same with OBS, but at the receiver end (the audience), it looks terrible and blurry (it looks super sharp on the input and in full HD).
There's really no way around it, unfortunately. Often times I'll record my end in Ecamm and upload that as a replay for my students so it's in better quality, but that's about it.
Hi Tom...thank you for all of the knowledge sharing in all of your videos. Quick question..if I wanted to get started using Ecamm...can I setup with two computers, two Logi Brio webcams. I think I need to pickup the Cam Link and am ok with picking up a stream deck. Do I also need an ATEM Mini Pro as well? Thanks
Hey David! There are a million ways to approach this, so you can just do what's best for you. Ecamm will pick up any connected video sources (USB Cameras, ATEM Mini, other capture cards, etc). What you use just depends on your workflow. I always advise people to start simple and upgrade when/if those needs become apparent.
Hi Tom, thanks so much for getting back. Good to hear that I can “start” and then expand the set-up as I learn. Due to your engaging videos there is a long and growing list Shure SM7, Flat-panel light, Atem Mini etc...etc...etc...
Tom, how does Ecamm works on you mac mini M1? I checked out the plan prices for Ecamm...and I'm not sure which on is best...what is you plan? Do you use the Interview mode?
It works great for me! I've been using it for about a year and a half now. I do have the "Pro" plan since I use Interview Mode and I like to use Ecamm as my Virtual Cam for Zoom and whatnot. My wife also uses it to record all of her videos directly to the computer, so it's become a pretty integral part of both our workflows.
Great video! Do you know if there's a way to do this in the other direction? I want to use Zoom as a virtual Cam inside of an Ecamm Live Stream. I've been doing it poorly using the screen sharing feature but there's gotta be a way to use Zoom as a virtual cam. Possible?
@@tombuck Thanks for the quick reply! That sounds worse than just sharing zoom via screensharing. And with the mic delay feature you pointed out I might be able to make it look less disjointed.
Great video Tom. Do you find that you have any video latency running the ATEM into Ecamm and then into Zoom? I have found when using a Cam Link in a similar setup I get a lot of video latency.
By latency are you referring to audio and video going out of sync? That's a problem with most streaming software simply because video signals are so much "heavier" than audio signals. I use a 5 frame delay with Ecamm and it fixes everything 👍
@@tombuck Thanks. Loving the videos BTW. It doesn't look like an audio sync issue - more like the video out of the camera has latency getting into ecamm. Might be a hardware issue with the Cam Link. Have ordered an ATEM as well - so will see how that goes.
Yep, that is the sound of my computer fans going to space for most of the video 👍

One thing - the Canon M6 Mark II does have clean HDMI. That's my main live stream camera connected to a CamLink. Allows me to stream/output in 30fps/4k with AF.
Best
Oh wow, seems like the M6 is an underrated choice 😎
@@tombuck I've been OH so surprised how good it looks - despite the ridiculous buttons you can't use when the screen if flipped up.
Example of quality - I'm speaking at next week's VidFest Expo 2020 and we were doing a speaker run thru last night. After my turn someone said "Kevin what camera are you using...looks amazing." So there's that!
Enjoy your stuff dude!
That’s awesome to hear. Good luck!
I'd love to see where the cameras were set up for this video. Awesome information, thanks so much!
I saw that right after I made this video! I installed the official version yesterday 👍
Thank you for the info. Great charisma and energy. Your students are lucky to have you for their teacher!
Thank you! This is so nice to hear!
Thank you, most of this was above my head, but appreciated the detail. How do adjust the video and audio if they do not synch when virtual camera goes into Zoom?
In Ecamm you can add a frame delay to your audio. 4-5 frames usually gets the job done 👍
I got the apex base aswell. Connected my kessler ball head and quick release system. Great table top tripod.
It’s awesome- super super strong 💪
Just as a heads up, you can also use your iPad to control the cam live all your special effects your overlays your videos and everything that goes with it. Give it a try and download the application on your iPad and watch and see you can control everything with your iPad.
Yes! I need to explore this more.
I’d like this advice too please
Nothing is as good as ecamm
I don’t think window users can use Ecamm. Maybe streamyard
The bokeh on your 🎸 neck is SICK cool! 2:02
Thanks! I like how the side light over there makes it stand out a little bit.
@@tombuck yeah, I like the overall look you have. Coming from event videography I'm new to controlled lighting. During quarantine I've been working on a little studio project an hour and a half from home. Bought a house, fixed it up, rented it out, put a 16 by 28 building there and just finished setting it up and started shooting. I love taking things to a new level with new gear :)
It's cool how well you have set up and created such a even blanket of exposure. When I was setting up this new location I learned fast the challenge of creating a set. So I really appreciate your work. It's very relevant to what I am working on. Got the Aputure 300x and ATEM mini pro recently too. Fun times! Really dig what you're doing, your killing it!
This is soooo helpful. I've had ecamm live for a couple years and can't believe I haven't used it - this got me excited!!! Thanks Tom
Good info! Thank you!
That glass console table in back is very nice. What kind it is?
It’s from Target. Not sure if they still make them but I love it 😁
You have a great channel. I watch each of your videos with great curiosity and pleasure. I have learned a lot from you. luckily you exist. Hello From Turkey.
I'm really happy to hear that, thanks for sharing the kind words!
I think the same features can be had with the new OBS, but Ecamm looks way more user friendly and self explaining..
Yep, OBS can do just about all of this, but the usability of Ecamm is so worth it, in my opinion.
@@belliefinest7917 totally agree. I hate subscription plans.
@@belliefinest7917 Technology moves too fast. You would immediately complain that your new iPhone wasn’t supported by the “perpetual” license you bought 6 months ago, and demand an update. How can we use OBS like this?
What is the best free windows alternative?
Your content is top notch man. I'm glad I found the channel.
Thank you! I’m glad you found it too!
I think the biggest question comes down to how many inputs do you need? If you need multiple hdmi inputs, the ATEM rules.
@@tombuck agreed and that’s the functionality I’m waffling on. I teach also, but I’m not sure how often a secondary or tertiary source would be needed. I like your document camera idea though
Can you give me a heads up on your audio settings for each device and app?
I don't really do anything special. I turn on "original audio" for Zoom and that's about it since I usually run my audio direct through Zoom and not Ecamm.
Ecamm is Ah MAZE ING! The community is even better!
Can I ask
a) why do you use both?
Do you have a Streamdeck? That's the next level, combined with Ecamm scenes - I'd love to see what you could come up with for that.
I do and I want to bring it into the setup, but I’m running out of USB ports!
@@tombuck Then might I suggest a Caldigit TB3 dock?
Ooh, I’ll look into it. 👍
@@tombuck Aaron is spot on....
Awesome video! Do you find that using the ATEM mini takes some load off of your computer and keeps the fan from turning on? I’m using an Elgato capture card and Ecamm and if I open zoom my 16in MacBook Pro fan goes nuts
I think it does take a lot of to an extent, but Zoom always makes my computer’s fans go insane no matter what 🤷🏻♂️

@@tombuck wait... WHAT?
I use OBS a lot with Zoom and love it. Especially the price, free! This program looks a little more user friendly though. I might have to check it out.
It’s like OBS with a very user friendly mask on top of it.
Great video once again!
Do you know if you can bring zoom comments into ecamm the same way you can with youtube and facebook comments?
People like seeing their own comments and questions on screen. Thanks again!
As far as I know, there’s no way, but I would LOVE to do that during my classes since most of my students respond via comment.
@@tombuck Thanks. Do you know if you can connect and use an iPhone through the Atem mini? The 12 pro is almost dslr quality

I'm assuming that it's saving faster because you are already sending it i an format that doesn't need to be converted.
Just random guess.
That's kind of what I was thinking, but whatever it is, I won't argue.
Okay this is great! So I want to go live with atem mini pro but also have a guest in there while live via Zoom or whatever can bring a guest in. What is the best way to do it??
Ecamm's Pro Plan has an Interview feature, which works really well.
I just love your videos, Tom. I learn SO much!
Thank you Kevin! I'm really happy to hear that 🙏
I am awaiting an M1 Mac mini to arrive and going to run Ecamm for zoom training.
Great stuff, Tom. I am building my scenes now. Going live with Ecamm, soon.
Awesome! I really want to dig in and go crazy with scenes.
Thanks for sharing these tips Tom!
You bet!
I'm sure you can, that sounds like a super smart setup! The beauty of Ecamm is just its simplicity.
How do you not have a delay while you’re recording? Do your guest have a delay through interview as well?
A 5 frame audio delay in Ecamm works well for me.
This is amazing Tom! So glad I found your channel! I’ve been using my Canon 70D for Zoom, and the EOS Webcam utility is much better than having to do CameraLive and Camtwist (without capture device). Great content, wish I was your student! Subscribed!! 💥💥👍
Thank you! I'm so glad it's been helpful!
Other than LISA, wats the best ecamm alternative for PC?
I'm honestly now too sure- I think OBS might be the best.
Actually really curious what your classes look like, how does the sound effects come in?
I'm not teaching anymore, but when we were online I tried to keep as much of the interactivity that we has in person as possible. Plus I was teaching high school students, so a goofy sound effect every once in a while went a long way for keeping attention or making someone laugh 😁
But all of these tools were really great for sharing presentations and doing video critiques. It was easy to bring in different A/V sources and have students present their projects and everyone could give feedback. Kind of amazing now that I'm thinking back on it!
Please do an ECamm tutorial. I’d pay for that. U r a good teacher. Thx.
I would love to do more Ecamm videos!
Do you need to do anything special to hear the ecamm sound effects on zoom?

With Ecamm you can use PowerPoint as a source in the "screen share" option, and then whatever you have open in Ecamm will who up on Zoom 👍
Great video but when you zoom with more people the virtual cam will become out of focus if other start talking. Is there a way to pin my video like I see it when I use screen sharing?
You can use the Spotlight feature in Zoom to do that, and it'll be the main image on everyone's screen 👍
Hey Tom,
I have a RODECaster Pro coming for Christmas. Can you do a video on the best way to utilize it with Zoom?
Congrats! It’s really plug and play, so once you connect it, you set it as an audio source and you’re good to go 👍
Thanks Tom, I'm starting to do more and more interviews with Sales and Executive Level Management. So I'm always looking for a way to separate myself from the normal person appreciate the response
Yes! This is a great way to stand out.
Fantastic stuff Tom, glad I found your channel!

Could you tell me if you start Ecamm Record before you start Zoom meeting, or does it matter?
It doesn't matter, you can start/stop recording anytime. By default, it's set to fad to black when you stop recording, so it's best to turn that off so that your Zoom window doesn't go black for a second.

ecamm says that it doesn’t play sound through into Zoom, and recommends a virtual mic to get sound from ecamm into Zoom. Is that your experience? How do you get around that when playing videos or sound effects in ecamm?

Hi Tom after your last video on ATEM mini you convinced me to buy it lol and then after that so far I did 2 LIVE on my channel. one with eCamm and another with Streamyard. Streamyard free version only allowed me 720p and ecamm I see trial ends in 14 days, so after that I have to pay monthly fee , but if have to go that route do they do provide 4K streaming with their standard / basic plan or 1080P?
Streamyard tops out at 1080p
@@AaronAbernethy Thanks. I see streamyard has Basic and Professional plan, does the basic $20 month offer 1080P or do I have to get the Professional plan to get 1080p. I see in the pricing page they mentioned 1080p for professional plan but didnt say anything for basic plan
@@TLYRIDER Yeah, afraid so. Regular plan is only 720p.

For those of us on PC's...do you have a recommendation? (OBS? Streamyard? Other?)
Streamyard for simplicity, OBS for versatility 👍
Thank you. Do not you know some good performance tool for a screen sharing with the ability to give a remote control to students so they can perform some tasks on my computer? Zoom has it but it has a delay.
THANKS Tom. Would you consider OBS as Windows PC software comparable to eCamm Live?
I think that's what I'd use if I were on Windows. I know vMix is pretty popular, but I've heard there's also a big learning curve with it. OBS has gotten a lot better over the years when it comes to usability.
Really great tips, thanks! I rekon this new EOS webcam utility can’t get the EOS 6D to continuously or automatically autofocus either, right? I got the old model, not the Mark II..
It won’t add autofocus to models that don’t have it, but you can definitely use the 6D with it. 👍
@@tombuck Yes, I tested it and it works with the 6D. But then again, Ecamm recognizes the 6D directly without any syphon software, so.. what is the advantage of using EOS webcam utility if it does not improve the quite tedious “manual” autofocus?

Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
This video explains it in more detail starting around 7:22 - ua-cam.com/video/MclyBwgATAc/v-deo.html
I hope that helps!
If Google Meet lets you select virtual webcams as a source, then yes it should work just fine.
Is it possible to capture the video file from the camera while streaming? I'd like to get the raw video to my editor to make a better edit in the future 🔮.
You can either record directly to your computer via Ecamm, or use the camera’s memory card.
Great video, one thing you forget to mention was the audio input setting in zoom, is it the atem mini audio or ecamm has some type of audio virtual cable?
Currently Ecamm doesn't have virtual audio, so you would need to select your source separately in Zoom.
Cheers.
The 576 is very usable, but I definitely prefer having a true 1080 (or even 4K input).
@@tombuck you would promote 576p as a worth while resolution for YouTubing? Pls do a video outlining this as I’d honestly love to hear more.
Hey Tom. Love, love, love your videos and how passionate you are about teaching and communicating well.
Question: why do u use the Atem Mini when ECAMM can do all the switching as well? I'm curious how u compliment these two products.
Thanks for the kind words! Ecamm can switch scenes, but the ATEM is a 4 input capture card- that’s huge!
@@tombuck Yes, and that offloads the processing of the videos signals from the Mac to Atem. Also physical buttons are easier than the virtual ones on ECAMM.
Do you use Streamdeck? Care to share your thoughts of it fitting into your workflow?
Thank you so much for all the useful information Tom! Your channel is phenomenal, you are phenomenal!😀🔥🔥🔥
Thank you! Your comment is phenomenal! 🙌
@@tombuck Thank you Tom, I really appreciate it!😊
Tom, I have enterprise zoom for work and been creating overlays using Canva.
@@tombuck thanks man. I’ve been stalking your vids lately trying to learn and you’ve helped me every time. Thank you bro
@@tombuck Yeah, that's what I discovered as well. But thank you so much for clarifying. Still a very useful video!
Great video! Always love the funny jokes throughout! Have a happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving!
Tom, your content is always totally on point and provides tons of value!!! 👊🏼
Thank you!
Possible?
As far as I know, it's messy. You could run Zoom on a computer that's connected to a Camlink or ATEM Mini and then use that as an input within Ecamm.
@@tombuck Thanks for the quick reply! That sounds worse than just sharing zoom via screensharing. And with the mic delay feature you pointed out I might be able to make it look less disjointed.
This is a great video thank you
Glad it was helpful!
