As someone who loves vapor wave, synthwave and all im glad he didn’t go into depth here its literally just a music genre with some retro asthetic.
as also someone who loves vaporwave ....... i might be being a greasy gloopy internet nerd but a lot of it to me has an intentional melancholic / deeper meaning kind of vibe like desert sand feels warm at night, death's dynamic shroud and stuff. i mean it always struck me like that even the tracks that aren't popular from floral shoppe, it just feels really fuckin existential/sad to me but i think it's definitely two sided with some being a cool sounding project and others developed w intention and same w audience opinions I don't blame or think down on anyone who doesn't have the same scope of knowledge or have the same feelings about it like both are true
Agreed, it’s also slightly antithetical to the genre to define it. A big part of vaporwave is up to interpretation.

Man, Boxxy (Katie) went to my high school. I had math with her. She'd show up every single day 10 minutes later with a lunchbox containing a fluffernutter sandwich and a mountain dew. She had to move high schools to mine because people found her address and kept sending her stuff. She really didn't like to be asked about the character and was a total thespian, the entire thing was an act. I hope shes doing better now

Interestingly enough, some doctorate people who had their work "stolen" and posted to sci-hub are actually happy that it is happening.
Yes, a lot of those publishing cites that put their articles behind a paywall...well the authors don't get paid for that. In fact, you could email any of the writers for a pdf of their article if it's behind a paywall and they will usually send it to you for free.
Yeah I imagine most researchers would want their life work, which helps humanity to be free for all of humanity
sci-hub doing the lord’s work
Sci hub goated
Neuroscientist here 🙋🏻... True! That's because we don't receive any payment for our studies, in fact, if it passes the experts' assessments (reviews) and the journal accepts to publish the paper, it is US who pay THEM, because there's a publication fee from their part. And still, some of the journals put the papers behind a paywall, so that money is all for them. And by the way, when I say the "experts' assessments", those experts are not paid either. If you publish in good journals or you're asked to review papers for good journals that plays in favor of your reputation, and if you have a good reputation you can get money for your research from the universities, or government, or other orgs, but not from the publication houses themselves.
Brazilian here:
Probably about Leão da Proerd, the memes were usually hyperviolent about drug users, stuff like "why do stoners don't appear on the census? Because they're not even people"
"Have you curbstomped a stoner to death today?" Etc
Btw, I think the entry called "4chan knowledge charts" is referring to old-school image guides of a morbid nature that used to be regularly posted on the random board during the early 2000s to the early 2010s. You don't see this anymore (mods will actually ban users for posts containing some of these), because of what it turned into. Basically, back in the day if you wanted information on, say, how to build a handheld .22 caliber pistol, you would post a thread requesting guides on that topic and people would dump what associated charts that they had in their collection. These threads would also serve as a congregation point for trolls, who would post guides that didn't work or were actively dangerous (which is why I think this has an entry on this ice iceburg). Arguably the most famous of these was the "homemade rock crystals" guide, which told users to add several dangerous chemicals into a Pyrex containers and blow air bubbles into the solution to "produce your very own crystals for decoration". Several users did this before more chemistry savvy chaners could jump in and explain how dangerous this was, as the process would actually create sulfuric acid that would kill or severely injure the person blowing these bubbles by entering their lungs and causing acid burns to their internal organs . One of the less famous but more common ones was to tell users to wrap a metal spoon in several layers of duct tape or another insulating tape, run a Bic lighter underneath it for exactly 5 minutes, and then immediately run it under cold water in your sink. Anyone who knows how metal reacts when taken from a high heat, high energy state, to a low heat, low energy state should immediately tell what would happen; namely, the duct tape wouldn't allow the metal to expand fully during the heating process causing stress, and when the cold water would hit the duct tape and metal both would contract really hard, really fast, causing the spoon to explode in the person's hand. Supposedly this sent several gullible people to the ER with lacerations to their hands, arms, and face, although I couldn't ever find any real proof of this on the internet aside from people posting pictures of their wounds.
This is really interesting, thanks for explaining

i just discovered your iceberg videos and absolutely love them… you do so much research on each topic and the dedication shows!!
I’ve been trying to find an exact video like this. Someone who presents internet mysteries in a realistic and light-hearted way as opposed to those UA-camrs who try to make things WAY scarier than they need to be.
yeah with stupid sound effects and long intros and unnecessary stuff, and sometimes the clips or icebergs aren't even scary
Yeah most youtibers make something mundane exciting by being vague and using hyperbole, he does the opposite, simplifies the topics and presents them in an understandable way.
both kind of videos have their place tho, sometimes people just wanna watch an overly scary video about a creepypasta or internet mystery

"Real darknets aren't accessible by the average channer" was a copypasta going around 4chan around the early twenty-teens. It relayed some story about an I.T. guy who discovered a darkweb broadcast of a woman being murdered by poking around different active wifi networks and network connections while doing work on a computer.
I can't remember the specifics, but it was a creepypasta.
Dude I’m so glad I found your channel I love watching videos like this but every yt video I see on icebergs try and make things scarier then they are also I like how you’re talking straight to the point rather then being up random words into the mix
Since this video is about dark/mysterious things on the internet, I would like to share a case that happened in my country and it's pretty similar to Rorochan. There was a 16-year-old boy who used Yoñlu as his artistic name. He was a very talented musician (even though he was brazilian, almost all of his songs are in English), but at the same time suffered from severe depression. In 2006, he went to a forum and asked ways to kill himself without pain. Some people gave him tips, others tried to stop him. A friend of his called the police, but it was already too late. When the cops came, Yoñlu was dead. His last message was: "I can't stand this heat. What should I wear to make it more bearable? WHAT CAN I DO??? For God's sake someone please help me". Since it was the first (and only) case of assisted suicide in my country, it got famous really quickly. There's even a movie about him. I highly recommend his songs, they're so melancholic and beautiful.
Brazil
He postponed his suicide because the people he was talking to on the internet loved his music. I wish he was alive so that he could see how many hearts his music has touched ever since him passing away.
Ele era uma alma muito bonita
is it considered an assisted suicide because he asked how to do it?
@@katarina7520 he asked on a forum online the easiest way to kill himself. Some people begged for him to stop and others incentivized him to do it. He, unfortunately, passed away by carbon monoxide intoxication

About scihub: When you buy research documents normally the money goes to the journal that publishes it, not the scientists who worked on it.
Indeed, researchers actually pay journals to get published on them.
Apparently, You can directly contact the researcher and they would provide the reaserch paper for free :) they totally deserve a donation though!
I just straight up to use downloader or asked the author of the paper instead subscribed
Thank you!!! Scientists hate it when people pay for the paywall, because the money goes to academic leeches who gain money over scientists' work, but they don't get a single dime!

11:15 for some context, Shinsei Kamattechan is probably most known outside of Japan for being the band who made "My War", the opening theme for Season 4 of Attack on Titan. They also did the ending song for Season 2 of AOT. They're known for making songs that tackle heavy subjects, "My War" being one of them, as the lyrics are about how one of the band members was bullied severely during their school days and about how just going to school was like a war for them. They're all pretty eccentric, so something like what's mentioned in the video is pretty expected for them.
Lmao I thought of Black Flag when you mentioned “My War”
They also made a tribute song for Ruru. ^^
They also have an full album created that goes over emotional and mental downfalls from several environmental factors. A lot of the songs also goes over abuse some of the band members went through.

Roro chan was suffering from depression, She jumped off her apartment intentionally. She "Wanted to be a legend." so she took her own life
...And regretted it just after she jumped. Poor girl, died in regret and fear.
Not entirely the story. From the information that is available, Roro thought that either she would become a legend or die trying. So, she attempted increasingly dangerous acts until eventually she streamed on a balcony, where she said she was too afraid to do it and that it was more likely then not that she would die. It was the chat that pressured her into doing it. At that point it was no longer about "being a legend". At that point Roro decided to jump KNOWING she would die.
Her story has some misinformation spread through it. It’s likely she has schizophrenia, hence some of her interesting behavior in other videos. The live chat in her final live streaming is still out there. I can’t translate it myself but from what I’ve heard no one was actually telling her to do it and instead wanted her to return to her room. She was scared before she did it. It seems like she did wanted to become more famous and so it unfortunately ramped up to suicide.

Sci-hub is weird since you can directly contact the author of any research paper for a copy and they will be more than happy to send a FREE copy of their work
would probably be faster and more convenient with scihub
Why go through the effort? Convenience is a product it and of itself
It's not really that weird. Most, if not all, scientists want their studies to be publicly available. However, to work they need money and thus sell their work to magazines like Nature. These magazines are the ones setting the pay-wall, not scientists.
Yeah a lot of the time researchers only pay journalists get their ideas out there, not because they make money of it
So really they couldn’t care less
Although a lot of people don’t know that so sci-hub is kinda helpful
Although I’d prefer it without the whole piracy thing

These iceberg videos are a real treat, especially as you take out some of the ones honestly that are just redundant and I don't even know why people list it. As for Chip-chan, she's come back, and many times since she's been streaming she'll go away for long periods of time and come back. This time she seems worse and has some kind of spreadable rash. Of course she attributes it to P controlling her... Though I'm sure it's more because of her lack of self care. I know in the past someone called the Seoul police who are aware of her situation and informed they can't do anything if she isn't willing to take the help. When I first came upon her story it seemed 'ooo spooky creepy' but as you go down the rabbit hole it just seems really sad. She seems to really have some mental issue but is so far in it she refuses help or the medication she might really need.
as a person who has in fact listened to all six hours of everywhere at the end of time (all in one sitting, even) i can confirm that it sort of gets in your head. dementia and other illnesses of the brain that cause you to lose memory are some of my worst fears, and everywhere at the end of time was both an eye-opening and terrifying experience. 10/10. funky static.

I love this channel. Great background to playing games after a long day at work. Or just want commentary. Good shit. Plus you learn some stuff
51:25 "Killswitch" could also be referring to the fictional game of that same name which was part of a blog called "Invisible Games." To summarize, it's a 2D horror game in which you can choose to play either as "Porto", a human girl who could change her size, or "Ghast", an invisible demon who could attack enemies. There are two twists to this game:
1. Ghast is entirely invisible. It's almost impossible to play the game as you can never tell where you are.
2. Once you finish the game as either character, the game files just completely destroy themselves from your hard drive, meaning you can never play the game again.
I remember reading this story like 10 years ago and being awestruck. In hindsight, it wasn't entirely feasible, but it's still a fun story.

Congrats, you have two comments now!

*I know how to play the LSD Dream Emulator!* It's been forever (literal years) since I've played, but apparently I've figured out more than the wiki? I typed out a huge paragraph but here's a summary:
Your goal is to figure out each area while keeping your mental health intact. You can see how well you achieve these two things based on where you appear on the face symbol at the end of the dream. You can tell you're in a good mental condition if: There's no corruption and you've seen white flash on your screen when you teleport. You can tell you're in a bad mental condition if: You see black screens, eerie corruption, and a shadow man.
That's that. Here's the huge paragraph I typed out before summarizing, with all I can remember on how to play:
-The corruption refers to mental stability
-There's a character I call the shadow man. According to dream interpretation and folklore, this represents part of yourself that you reject. Running from a shadowman will only cause you to continue to feel fear, while accepting it is good and stuff. That's why, whenever you see him, you should run into him, thus facing your fears and accepting him. He's the most significant part of the game imo, just as much as the corruption (hint: the goal is to stay away from corruption generally, and only wander into mental instability if you're looking for meaning/solutions)
-After that, you'll see a white screen. The lightness or darkness of a screen indicates the degree of emotional health or good/bad feelings. I forget what red means, and I remember that I found (light?) blue very interesting. If you see a dark screen, BE CAREFUL.
-There are plotlines, kinda. The sumos disappear (and for some reason I remember thinking they may be inside a body? like, the walls are flesh? I don't remember the reasoning), and there's an elephant at this big hole I remember investigating (you can run into it to proceed the story! otherwise you're stuck walking into this tunnel or running into a statue to proceed in any way, and the elephant only appears... I think if you're very mentally well?) When you reach parts of a story and get bits if important information, you'll get one of those cutscene bits. I can't read Japanese but I remember one written in Japanese was linked to the sumos. There's also symbolism involving a king and queen in a castle if I recall correctly? They were dancing and I never fully figured it out but one of those chairs is yours, if I was interpreting right
-There's a childish area (may actually symbolize childhood) with smiley faces all over the floor. Each does have a meaning and you want to be on the happy ones. They will appear differently when things are corrupted so it's important. I remember using this area to fix corruption.
-where you are on the face at the end of the dream does have meanings. I think your levels (left to right, up to down) do have meaning: If I remember right, one axis refers to mental health/stability (like the white screen and dark screen!) and the other refers to meaning found in the dream.
-There's this Japanese area that's kinda dangerous, if I remember, and the concrete area with the dock can be dangerous too. I think the road was the dangerous part? It definitely had meaning, and was probably significant to the past of the character. I remember that, in the Japanese area, I was trying to find meaning in the statues like I had with the elephant and sumos.
-bridges and (japanese-style) entryways are important. I think they symbolize progress in life, like the turning of a page, maybe?
-yes, dream interpretation stuff does help, but absolutely don't look at the stupid psychic ones. There's one site that's best for this: www.dreammoods.com/dreamdictionary/ the rest are full of shit as far as I can remember. I know a lot of people will hate this and not believe it, but hey, if it works, it works, okay?
-I also remember reaching the full meaning of a hallway area, the ending that's so important was related to falling out of a window, or maybe NOT falling out of the window? It's harder than it sounds and it involved decision making, I forget if that's with doors or if it's the one with the stalls with things in them (including a disembodied giant baby head in one stall if you're doing things a certain way, if I remember?)
-another area I haven't mention is just... a little building with a bar on one side. I think the character/creator had an alcohol addiction in the past. I forget if this weird outside world was connected to the childish area or not, but that's one too, with hills and trees and stuff. You can really slowly construct an image of who this guy is and what he's done and where he's been with this game.
-finding an area's meaning/ending/solution/whatever ends the dream but should leave you in a good spot on the chart
Oh so just like being an animator? Yeah I already know abt _that_ level of stress
@@zim.is.emo. More like being schizophrenic, but sure, that's totally animator-specific
I'd heard that it was actually important to avoid the grey man because he keeps you from being able to remember your dream. It's interesting hearing you say that touching him is actually helpful!
xd
You literally just walk around
Your videos are awesome 👍
I love some creepy stuff and here I found some stories!! The background music is amazing for this content!
You do lots of research on these things to make a good video!

Why did I watched it all? It feels like a 10mins video just cause of how entertaining it was.
51:25 this is most likely actually referring to a computer game from the late 80s (might be a different time). In it, you could pick 2 characters. Pedro (I’m probably wrong) who had no attacks, or ghast who could attack but was invisible, and since he was invisible, no one played ghast. It took place in a mine and was black and white. The game would delete itself after you beat it with no way to get it back m. The man behind it said it was supposed to replicate how life was unrepeatable. Only 3000 copy’s were ever made with the man saying he would never make more. So people with the last few copy’s tried to beat it with ghast, and the person who had the supposed last copy was gonna play it and upload the whole thing on UA-cam, but only uploaded himself using a camera to film the main menu while he cried. This is just an urban legend though and in my opinion one of the better ones.
14:15 yeah. it is the best and most moving piece of music i’ve ever heard in my life and i never want to hear it again.

(20:35) Just an observation: PROERD (Programa Educacional de Resistência Às Drogas -- roughly translating to Educational Drug Resistance Program) is the brazilian localized version of the american DARE program (Drug Abuse Resistence Education). Both even share the same lion mascot. Though indeed the mascot and the program became a meme in the brazilian side of the internet, I highly doubt that whoever made the iceberg would know this if they weren't brazilian themselves (which doesn't seem to be the case). Even then, it would be too specific to be so high in an iceberg chart written for English speaking audiences.
I immediately recognized the mascot and I have no knowledge of Brazil at all whatsoever except that people don't want to go there.
I guess dare is also kind of a meme in the US oh, so good to know that awful program gets laughed at everywhere in the world.

“Jerry… remember when we were young and i spanked you on live television while wearing a mask? good times..”
I think it's really funny how erratas was literally a viral marketing campaign but people still treat it like it's some scary horror thing.
Interesting note about time cube. His one and only follower “Cubehead” killed himself when he met his hero in person. Cubehead claimed to be the second wisest person in the world since he followed the time cube guy. Think he killed himself due to his hero being very rude to him and calling him stupid? It’s been awhile since I heard that story.
That's pretty heavy, I wish I knew details

@@codygreene9067 i guess its not very scary, especially not in this video, but its more unsettling to hear about REAL people doing these horribly messed up things. Especially with some of these videos that have very gruesome stories
I agree, Dead Rabbit Radio is a pretty good podcast! Thanks!
Mm’yes quite

this is extremely well done, you kept every topic some what short and simple while explaining them well. Also there's no ads🙂
@Wyatt P Do it matter?
@Wyatt P why does my profile picture matter I was just saying this person did a great video?
@Wyatt P why would i be ashamed ?
@Wyatt P I'm not ashamed, I never have been. I love explaining what it means to people. I would have explained it to you, but you were rude about it you put an annoyed emoji. I don't know if you ever thought to ask your self why does it matter? I have a flag in my profile picture get over it.
@Wyatt P Made up? there is science behind it ?
Trance by 009 Soundscape was everywhere in UA-cam because it was the first song listed in the UA-cam Sound Library. If a video had copyrighted music, it was often removed and replaced with it. It's free to use on YT (unless the license has been removed for some reason) so no need to fear a copyright strike.
51:26 I’m actually pretty sure that entry is referring to the fake game killswitch where when you complete it it deletes its self, it’s a fairly well known creepypasta
That's what I thought, too. But what he actually talked about seemed more obscure than the creepypasta so idk
Killswitch: change da world, my final message, goodbye
Dude I love that this trend is still happening, these videos are addicting and so interesting ngl
Thanks for mentioning all the important John’s
Genuinely love your channel. It's a middle-finger to all those annoying clickbaity creators who take 10 videos, span them over 40 minutes and cram them with adverts
Most of these things can be explained by someone being mentally insane or an art project
Or a art project by someone mentally insane
