I started watching the sharks when I was a sophomore, that was all the way back in 05. I love this team. All the good times going to games with my old man when he was still around and my wife. When we beat Vegas in game 7 I was screaming so loud I scared the dog! Wouldn’t trade it for anything. Even these last few tough years. Here till the end 🦈
To speak on your idea of growing the game and the Sharks fanbase, I love it. I told my best friend that once I get my license I would take her out to a game, but she immediately responded and said that they aren't good and it wouldn't be fun. Now that the only apparent way is up, I think that you are right when you say we should push San Jose hockey to our friends now. Not only that, but it also ties with your idea of the spotlight being on the sharks now that the Warriors aren't going to be as great as they have been. Way to go Brodie.
As a Sharks fan for 25 years I was disappointed in the rebuild even though it was a long time coming because we got old fast. But with guys like Macklin Celebrini, Sam Dickinson and Will Smith on the horizon I'm excited for the future 👏🏼👏🏼.
Eukland, Granlund and Zetterland aren’t too shabby. Blackwood will be solid with some decent defense in front of them. Still have a ways to go in the rebuild though.
As an Anaheim Ducks fan, I’m very excited for the future of the Anaheim Ducks (my team), Chicago Blackhawks, and the San Jose Sharks as the Stanley Cup contenders in the future. 🦆 🦈 🏒🌉🌁🌇🌆🏙️🌃
Sharks fan here from the Philippines for 24yrs. Never stopped watching/supporting the Sharks even at their worst. Just love the color, the logo, the team name, the previous roster, and now Im loving the future.. I'm just more excited for the upcoming season knowing that its a guarantee that they will not finish last. Just matter of time before that Sharks playoff territory comes back to life
I grew up playing in santa clara, SJ, San Mateo, Vacaville, Silvercreek, Dublin, Oakland, and Stockton - moved to Vancouver for school and live here now for 7 years. I always represent the sharks and have accepted the rebuild, it's a part of sports it's normal. Here to see the team in at every stage, and enjoy the league as a whole. I love hockey so much
The recent years of the Sharks being at the bottom of the league were necessary, in a way. I've been a fan since 2007 and have seen them come close in years such as 2011, 2016, and 2019. Those were amazing times that I cherish as a fan and wish they could've came through with winning it all those years. I've always stuck around to support them during their highs and lows, and still try to when life has other plans for me to take care of. Definitely can't wait and looking forward to the next few years of the franchise 🦈
It's such a great organization. I decided to get behind them a few months ago after realizing I had fallen in love with their ice skating facilities. I said " you know what, I need to start wearing sharks logos and jerseys at sharks Ice" support the organization. Get that Teal and Sharks logos BACK OUT THERE. got 3 sick vintage jerseys with socks to match. Black jersey, white jersey. Teal jersey.!
I didn't know a single thing about hockey until the Sharks came into the NHL. Maybe I was aware of a few teams at best. They won me over since day one and hockey has become my favorite sport. I'm now the hockey guru in my circle. It brought me close to an estranged mother and was the basis for a great relationship with my father, both of which have since passed. The Sharks will forever hold a dear place in my heart and will be my #1 sports team even if I've been a fan of the 49ers and Giants longer. The franchise changed my life and always for the better.
Been a Sharks fan since the day they were announced. Were my primary team for about 20 years, when they were eventually downgraded to my side team. Even as my side team, I’ve always been with them. Can’t fully enjoy the good times if you don’t go through the bad times too.
Been going to the games since they moved to the tank, excited to be there for Jumbo’s day and excited for the future of this team and getting to see the development of this new era of Sharks hockey!
I got disconnected when I moved out of san jose to Sacramento. I do miss watching them on a regular basis. Growing up in San jose and watching them during the 90, 00, and 10's was awesome. I definitely am going to get back into it
Brodie , It’s exciting that we have certain players that were a part of that competitive core now teaching these younger guys about that and what it means in the room and to the loyal fan base. Both Thornton and Marleau aren’t done chasing Lord Stanley. I’m happy as a lifelong fan since Day 1 that these guys are still apart of the Goal……Stanley Cup in San Jose. Excited for the season
Behind the Preds, the Sharks are my #2 team, so it'll be nice to see how both of these teams will perform next season given the busy offseason both these teams have had with free agency and the draft. The future is looking bright for both, just in different ways. The Preds are possibly Cup contenders but at the very least should return to the playoffs. The Sharks, as you mentioned, Brodie, are hopefully on the better side of the rebuild.
Always a Penguins fan first as that was where I was born and raised, but I spent 5 years in the bay area with the Sharks as my "west coast" team. Also where I was introduced to Brodie and his great coverage! I've since moved to Arizona and adopted the Coyotes as my new second team, but with the recent move I can't bring myself to support the team in Utah, so even though I've left the bay I'll be following along with the Sharks this year. Love a game at the Shark Tank! For all my friends and I back east, we always knew that a west coast trip for the Pens was going to be tough against the Sharks in the tank. I agree that the worst is probably over, but will probably be a few more years before things start rocking again. Fun time to see the new guys start to grow up together though
Ive followed the sharks for years but only recently really started watching hockey regularly couple years ago. 3 years of really rough hockey to watch, especially with the tank being half empty most of the time, but I’m still excited for the future.
Brodie, I started watching your videos during all of the Coyotes chaos and am sticking around for the Sharks content 🙂 This offseason I have officially become a fan of the Sharks (1b to the Canes 😂) because I became a big fan of Kasper Halttunen leading up to last year's draft and as someone who goes to many Saginaw Spirit games I saw a lot of Kasper and Dickinson this past year. Also, the Barracuda signed Spirit captain Braden Haché and former Spirit Ethan Cardwell is also in the prospect pool so I will be keeping a close eye on the Sharks! And 2nd round pick Igor Chernyshov was taken by Saginaw in the import draft this year.
Real fans stay with the Sharks through the worst. None of these bandwagon or casual fans. Is there another term for people who watch games when the teams good and stop watching when the team is last place ? Either way this is our time real teal fans
Yeah, reasonable people who will spend their time doing something more meaningful than watching this team get their doors blown off twice in a week. That’s what my CBS Sports app is for. Yes, I did have some of their games on for a time indicator. I even went to their last home game and bought a Cali Finn jersey for my wife at 30% off that night. We don’t need anyone’s gatekeeping around here.
Been a Sharks fan since the early days when I was a teenager growing up in the Bay Area. Living away from the Bay now, I still try to attend at least 1 game a season home or away. The Sharks fall from contention partially coincided with me having a kid, so it was generally tougher to watch any sports. What I see right now with the Sharks that wasn't there before is a path back to contention. I don't expect much from the team this coming season as far as the standings go (Chicago still had a horrible record in Bedard's rookie year). I just want to see and track the development of the young guys. Even just watching the prospect scrimmage earlier this month was exciting. I'm really looking forward to even just seeing the rookie faceoff and preseason. Guys like Musty and Dickinson's talents will be on display against NHL competition even if they may not make the big club to start the season
As a Sabres fan that believes we are finally doing a rebuild right, trust the process! Don’t make the dumb mistakes we made with Tim Murray and Jason Botterill. Don’t rush it! I’m excited for the future of the Sharks.
I am super looking forward to the future of this team, but man, I was scoring some great deals on tickets in the post pandemic lean years. Let's go Sharks!
I had the good fortune of moving to SJ in late 2005, two weeks after Jumbo was traded to the Sharks. I immediately became a STH through 2017 when I moved back to Toronto. I was very unhappy with Mike Grier 2 seasons ago, but this past season seems to vindicate his plan for the Sharks and although they may not be a playoff team yet, their future is looking bright. Time to buy the NHLTV package again!
Year 1 of the Grier Era: I expected nothing. Year 2: I expected nothing. Maybe eliminating the bad long term deals Wilson handcuffed the team to. In fact, the Sharks tanked hard like I hoped they would. Year 3: I expect nothing but for the team to win more games than they lost last season. I know the payoffs for tanking have been rather fruitful. But let’s dial it down a little. Get past that 20-win threshold in the upcoming season, I’ll take it. It would be a step in the right direction.
maybe you had planned to make this video before the q&a but was this inspired by my question? (about the buzz arund celebrin in the bay) either way, I really appriciate you making this video. ive always been a casual hockey fan partly because my family never really watched it (as oppose to football and baseball since my family are huge 49ers and giants fans) and/or there was never too much "buzz" on the street about the sharks (compared to the warriors who were in one of the greatest dynasties in their sports history during my middle school/high school years). but this past season I just got super into hockey and im getting super excited about this young core. go sharks 🦈
“I would like to see next time around the fan base stick around instead of how things have been recently” TELL THAT TO TOM OF KNBR. Not me though I watch as many game EVERY season!!!
Much of The Sharks historical connection to being good has happened with some pretty great G's along the way; that spot may be their Achilles heal at this point. While I have joined the party with my fantasy hockey team, drafting Smith and Musty last season, and making a deal to get 1st overall and Celebrini this season, who is there in net that's going to be able to carry this team through breakdowns? I don't know they have addressed that position yet, and so it will be exciting to watch, along with the Eklunds, Zetterlunds, etc., it may not yet be winning hockey. Need a top G deveoped or attained. Going with 2 essentialy backups this season, and the Barracudas farmers are middling at best. That needs addressing to be able to pull out of this valley. Cheers!
A few points I don’t agree with. I don’t believe the Sharks are part of the Bay Area culture. In general it’s not a great sports culture here. I’m from San Mateo and I remember trying to watch a Sharks playoff game at bar back in the day and they wouldn’t put it on the TV because there was a Giants game on and a playoff basketball game that wasn’t the Warriors. I think they are very much a SJ culture. But having lived all over the bay, they aren’t supported most other places. 2nd point is yes the pandemic made it hard. But tech has been impacting the fanbase for longer. Most of the people I’ve grown up with have not been able to stick in the Bay Area. The South Bay has been a place for tech mercenaries to move here for 3-5 years, make a lot of money and then leave with never giving anything back to the community or caring about it. These are the things that I think impact the fanbase more. My opinion
