In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to use Mask AI by Topaz Labs. In it I show how it can handle something like a see through bride's veil. Yes, I know the bottom corner of the veil could have used a bit more refining.
    Thank you!

Topaz Studio 2 is the same price as Mask AI and includes a masking module, a layers module and a filters module. Does Mask AI do something that the masking module in Studio 2 can't do?

Anthony: I would appreciate more videos on Topaz Mask. I've owned the predecessors of this app for years and never mastered it. I always get bogged down when I try to refine my masks and quit in frustration.
Thanks for all your great videos.

Please make sure in your future tutorials concerning this software to please discuss the Transform Image. I'm having all kinds of problems with it. Examples - if I uncheck the 'Maintain aspect ratio' and click & hold one of the corners, it still changes width and/or height of background at the same time; if I place the mouse inside the background and try to move it, the background turns black. If you need, I could send you a video of this happening.

Awesome! Thank you for creating this video about Topaz Mask. I wish your video was longer to demonstrate to us more features such as selecting flowers and animals fur. You have a new subscriber to your channel. 👍

I’ve watched quite a few demonstrations of masking software over the years. Yes, they often do well for easy, high contrast scenarios but not so good for real life, low contrast situations. But things are getting better. I was glad to see how Mask AI handled the texture of her veil. My sense is things will take leaps forward with the new AI technology. I am amazed how Sky Replacement works so well in Luminar 4. And fortunately, it is only going to get better. Hopefully, our computers can handle the processing power to do this kind of stuff. And our wallets remain full to pay for it.

Great video. I do wish mask AI had a manual mode where I can choose a specific part of the image to cut. It drives me nuts when refining a mask and I try to cut something specific but the software decides to do more than asked.

Very helpful Anthony. And thanks for explaining a bit more as to when we would use AI mask mode as opposed to Contrast mode. In the several videos I have seen on Mask AI most of the instructors passed over that. I was wondering why both options were even needed, so your tutorial helped clarify that.

Thanks for the video very helpful. I can't find how to move and/or resize foreground. This is possible with the background.

Very intresting software, is it better than Photoshop mm especially selecting complicated hair of a model? If yes can we use as a plugin for Photoshop? Curious to see a comparison video. Thank you.

If you want to do this in Photoshop have two copies of this bride image stacked on top of each other. Make a selection of the bride's face and the flowers on the top layer ( not the vale or black background ). Create a layer mask out of this selection so only her face and flowers are visible. Set the duplicate layer underneath to " screen " blend mode. It will make the black background and black areas of the vale transparent but also anything else in the image transparent also ( which is why you protected those with the layer mask selection above ) Place your new background under these 2 bride layers and you'll see a perfect selection has been made 😁

Hi Anthony. I just upgraded my noise and sharpen after a couple/few years.
I notice they both have masking now. I found out from Topaz where it was on noise, bottom, tiny icon. But, you are teaching Mask AI. What's the difference?

Thank you for your tutorial, Anthony. Mask AI seems to be very easy and quite powerful, at least on this image. I suppose it is easier to use than Photoshop, but let's see what image and what results you use in your follow up tutorial. I am very impressed with this first pass. Thanks again.

Thank you for the clear instructions. Unfortunately, my screen does not look like yours. For example, I do not have the range slider. All my tools are on the left and they don't work like yours. I also took a portrait and tried to add a background. It looks very unnatural, unlike your natural look. Mine looks like a cut out. Is there an updated video or one that may address my issue?

    Hi Anthony
Thanks for your video on topaz labs masking software. I’ve tried using the software before but I found it difficult to use. I am looking forward to you more detailed tutorials next week on how do use the software.
Thanks for your great videos. By the way, I think you should spend more time on Camera so we get to know what you’re really like and actually what you look like. I found when you do these videos with yourself on camera it just makes me get to know you a little better.

Great video, clear explenation about mask AI ,
    Using the program I found 2 problems ;
First , whenever you try to make small + or - correction to the computed mask the program starts recalculating the whole mask, slow even with a fast machine. Compared to good old remask 5 much slower.
Second problem , on my Dell XPS15 using Topaz mask AI I cannot see the lower buttons AI , CONTRAST , COMPUTE and there is no way to scale Topaz mask AI
Topaz mask AI crashes when GPU is selected in preferences ...

Does Luminar accomplish this in any manner? I don't want to purchase this software if I already have another that will accomplish the same task. I can see this being very useful in all portraits with black backgrounds.

Thanks for this video, Anthony! In the masking part of the video, why isn't the straight blue line good enough without painting in all the blue? Is the AI actually recognizing that the veil is something to see through and reveal the background? Hence it has to be in blue to make a decision, so I think I answered my own question. This is really sophisticated.
